Been talking with my dad a whole lot recently, with him telling me his stories as a young person in the 70s/80s, how were these times for you lot? Sounded a whole lot more fun and easygoing than now.
Euro 96 was awesome. I was in Faliraki for the group stages, pre euros so drakma (IIRC), beer and food was dirt cheap. Ahh to be young again.96 to 01 was a great time, Euro 96 britpop , travelled a bit , worked as a barmen at the wallace between 96 and 97 some mad nights Thursday to sunday in the lounge , then the opening of the skydome in 99 had some great nights in Jumpin Jaks, also the generations nightclub which was always a good place on a sunday . 97/98 ,98/99 and 99/00 were great seasons being a cov fan too
Ah, the 80s.
Collapse of industry;
Riots in major cities;
Mass unemployment;
Casual racism;
Insitutionalised homophobia;
Football hooliganism, and being treated like animals.
They were the days!
I was 16 in 1970, and the first half of that decade was brilliant. Still knocked about with Wood End pals, but also down the town with mates from work. Regular in Tally Ho cellar bar and the Cross, and Thistle, Climax etc with work pals.The 70s was fucking grim.
I personally think people who go on about how great it was are looking at it through rose tinted spectacles, of course they might not be, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I'd rather eat one of my own kidneys than be transported back there, of course I still bang on out it to my kids when pissed, that's my job!
Ronny was a mate. Used to bump into him at matches occasionally in our later years. You ever been to one of the old Town goers reunions?@olderskyblue I was also 16 in 1970 I reckon our paths must have crossed at some point.
I was friends with a lad from Wood End (Ronnie Parsons.. great lad sadly no longer with us).
Two of the lads I hung around with were pretty well known around the town Matt and Tony Madden (again both sadly no longer with us).Good times.
Yes I have ,went to a couple at the London Road club (organised by Brian Falconer, also a good mate in the 70's) haven't been to the last few (lived in the Rugby area for 20 years).Edited out my name etc, d.m. me if you think you may know meRonny was a mate. Edit:I went to Ronnie's 50th party at Carey's as well.
The advent of social media?90s were great. Best music. Best video games. Other bits of the world still felt like some magical place. Politics wasn’t everywhere. Good drinking and good drugs. City in the PL.
I know everyone thinks that about the years they were a teenager, but genuinely think things went off a cliff around 2010 and have just kept getting worse since.

...+ dog and trumpet.80s for me. Music. Fa cup. Discovered women and alcohol. I was 13 at the beginning of the 80s so through to 23 back end of punk into ska and then just 80s pop
Park lane. Tomangos/pink parrot/ busters / reflections. Loved it
absolutely. i would hate to be growing up now.Born 70s, grew up in 80s. No mobile phones, no social media, no cctv certainly among the better things. We could afford houses too!
I like that we have the tech now I'm older, but would hate to be a kid now growing through all of this. Somehow felt safer, more outside space and my world much smaller. Genuinely feel sorry for the current generation.
Couldn't see much cos there was a massive squash.on the subject of 90s music, did anyone else see the pumpkins in brum on friday night?
