A new CCFC club badge (8 Viewers)

A couple of years ago I was preparing for my wedding, and lucky enough to be getting a tailored suit made. I had this crazy idea of the jacket lining be an authentic reproduction print of the 1987 FA Cup winning CCFC home kit, and I thought it’d be fun to have the club badge embroidered on the inside, maybe above the inside pocket. I’ve always been slightly dissatisfied with the club crest though, which I felt was overdue for a bit of a tidy up. Not a completely new take like the disastrous Mike McGinnity one from 2005, but an ‘evolution’ of the existing crest, with a more modern feel.

I decided to hire a graphic designer, and worked with him to create this new logo. It didn’t really work out though, and whilst what we came up with together (after many rounds of revisions and feedback) was clearly a cousin of the current logo, I wasn’t quite satisfied with the outcome, so I shelved the idea, and forgot all about the illustration files he’d come up with.

A year or so later I decided to have another play at creating something out of the previous design, and finally came up with something I liked. I’ve been sitting on the design for a while, uncertain exactly what to do with it. I thought maybe it was good enough to share with the club? But maybe that’s crazy talk. What would other actual fans think of it?

A few months back I saw a preview of Nike’s Teamwear range for 2018/19, which includes a sky blue and white striped shirt that I can easily see us using as our kit next season, so I stuck the badge on it. I ended up tweeting this mockup on Friday night as part of a conversation about our Puma shirt history, and then popped the new badge on Twitter itself for good measure.

So I thought, why not share it with a bunch of Sky Blues fans, and get some feedback?

Anyway, let me know what you think?

Like others have posted I quite like our badge and hope we keep it; I did like the 125-year anniversary badge we played on, but also glad it was only 1 season. I think we have one of the best club crests in the league.

But that said, despite the similarity with the Man City badge which is then first thing to jump out at you, your design looks pretty good and I'd certainly not be disappointed if we adopted it for a couple of years. You've done a nice bit of work there.

I pretty much agree with all of that.

Not sure why we need to change it, to me it would be losing one of the few elements of recent CCFC heritage we have left.

Keep what we have as far as I am concerned

Lots of people have said similar things. Obviously some people wouldn’t be happy with any change to the club badge — the replies here make that pretty clear. Still, I’m less interested in that kind of feedback so much as specific feedback about the design I’ve shared. The chances of the club adopting this are close to zero, so it feels a bit pointless banging on about how you’d rather the logo didn’t change etc.

Of course, I could point out that as far as the club’s ‘heritage‘ goes, the current club logo is only about 35 years old, and what I’ve come up with is hardly a million miles from the badge used from the 60s onwards. Maybe it should go back to a big red S, or a bantam, if ‘heritage‘ is what fans really want…?

Quite like it on the green and black. Looks striking. Not so keen on the sky blue stripes. On plain sky blue v like the one from a few years back.

The mockups look very similar to the early 1970's badge, which was okay. However, I would prefer to keep the current badge.....I'm sure your owners would prefer a simplified version as it'll be cheaper to integrate into merchandise.

Sure — these are just the latest Nike Teamwear templates, which our kit supplier uses (so I think there’s a very good chance the sky blue/white striped one will be our home kit next season). Sadly the 2017/18 teamwear template doesn’t include the sky blue version our current kit comes from, otherwise I’d love to get it made using that as the base.

I’m going to find out how much it’ll cost to get these made. I’ll report back with info in case anyone else fancies getting one.

First of all I admire the commitment and creativity.

But I think a big problem is that the elephant looks about two weeks old and pretty effeminate. Not something that the lads on the pitch could wear with pride - although I guess the oppo might collapse in laughter giving us an edge.

I don't understand the love for the current badge, its cluttered and over complex, too many colours.

Which wag did this one?

Loving the details - absolute genius. I've been laughing at this for hours. Just need a photo of Joy in this on her way to another court hearing to make it perfect.

The weirdest thing is that the Monarch who was Leofric was said to of been put to death by red hot poker up his jaxxy - ouch! Again what that has to do with CCFC i'll never know. Probably there for aesthetics to balance out the bird on fire.
Very akin to watching the City I'd say - a red hot poker up the jaxxy actually sounds a lot less painful to me vs. watching us over the last 17 years.

For anybody who’s interested, I’ve made a small web store to let me sell the football shirt designs I’ve posted above, which you can find here. £26 might seem steep, but this is more or less just covering my costs.

Ok Lets play a game of who’s badge is better than ours.

Football Badge Top Trumps.

I can say now that ours is pretty close to the top of the best badge list Kap.

I think your quest for simplifying our badge is clouding your judgement.
