Wasn't that the game up at there place when Sammy scored a free kick from about 40 yards out? :thinking about:
That was in Clingans first season I think under Coleman, the season they went down we lost 2-1 to a last minute goal at there place. David Bell scored a pretty sweet volley for us I think

Correct he sound barking mad. He said all the existing players had bad habits and told most to train with the youth team. He then signed Lee Trundle.

Bloody hell, forgot they'd sign him! Yeah, he sounds a little unconventional!

Good to see we're writing off another potential new signing already again!

What are you talking about?

People are just concerned cos the lad had a dreadful injury. No-one is writing him off. They're just saying that it is a gamble bringing him in and quite rightly people are querying that decision. We've had too many players here who have spent more time on the physio's table than they have on the football pitch.

No-one is writing him off.

What was the last reply to this thread actually talking about the player joining us?

Keep checking in for updates, but it's flooded with pointless bickering.

Well said, Si! I thought "look at all these pages, he must have signed-for a FEE?!?"

But no, it's just Wyken versus The World. Which sounds a bit like a re-make of "Passport to Pimlico"..

Oh he's an out-and-out nut-case! Stevenage actually sacked him largely due to unprofessional behaviour but ended up reinstating him the season after following a terrible spell under Peter Taylor. He's very unconventional and takes the idea of creating an "us and them" mentality to a level that Hitler would be proud of. That he's done so well is a tribute to the quality and tight squad at Stevenage, but I can't really see it working at Preston: it's a bit like Clough at Leeds, but kinda the other way round?

I'd say the apparent concern over what sounds like a horrble injury is writing him off. Just pointing it out, not necessarily aimed at you so calm yourself down.

Post on the Preston forum:

As for Barton, he was shocking for the vast majority of his games for us and never seemed that bothered. He actually started playing to a half decent standard in his last few games then snapped his leg which could send him right back to where he was - a soft arse who has no business in central midfield.

Doesn't sound very promising. :(

A serious back injury at 16, Triple Broken Leg at 21 and we are offering cash?

Tbh, the more i read into this potential signing, the more i think it will be the cherry on top of the cake so to speak. AT's final nail may have just been hammered in.

He was actually very highly rated a few years ago. I remember asking my mate how this obscure youngster was running the midfield against us when he pointed out that he was being linked with a big move to Liverpool. I'd wondered what had happened to him, but that was obviously the injury. Given the huge turnover of players at PNE, there are going to be some bargains to be had. Could be a very shrewd signing, provided he's recovered form the injury, of course. Which David Bell hadn't done when we signed him!

Will he pass his medical though? :thinking about: It doesn't sound like it and would probably be for the best. If he was any good PNE would have tried to hang on to him wouldn't they?

Not necessarily. Westley is a bit stir crazy when it comes to whether or not your face fits.

If it doesn't, you're out on your ear.

A medical? :D

Riiiight....'cause our players all look like Olympic swimmers...

You pass the medical if you can sign a contract without losing your breath...

For Liverpool to be looking at him there must be a bit of talent in there, he needs to be creative and a bit of a goal threat though, and i'm not sure if this is the case

He's a composed passer rather than an "attacking midfielder".

just a thought but do all the players in the squad being built seem similar and a bit one dimensional, especially in midfield and up front. It is almost as if we cant risk something different. We are missing a spark somehow, still no leader in my opinion either.

He's the kind of player that mobilises the attacking unit rather than actually scoring goals himself. Tries to run the show in the midfield.

We're desperate for some CM's. The only conventional CM's we have are deegan and Thomas - Kilbane is a LM/LB and has been his entire career.

Since Jan 11 the following central midfielders have left:
Doyle
Ozzie
Carsley
Gunnar
Clingan
Bigi
Norwood (loan)

The only CM who has been brought in and is still here:
Thomas

As I said we're playing Kilbane in the CM position but he has played his entire career at LB or LM.

One thing we are still missing is anyone with pace and anyine who could be called a natural leader. As OSB observes we are signing very similar players big and one paced pointing to a one dimensional system (guess thats one more dimension than last season). Still pre-season has given Thorn ample practice for a season of one dimensional excuses as well.

I was going to say the opposite - many of midfielders seem multi-functional but not especially great in any one position!

We have the natural leader.....

Richard Wood would be 1st name on the team sheet and captain for every other club in this division if they had him,

He must be injured, I can't believe he wouldn't have played in at least 1 of the last 2 friendlies had he been fit.

Remember when we sold Ben turner after his massive injury and he turned out crap for Cardiff? Stop writing this guy off before he's played for us, jeez

I was calm.

Why did you post that you thought I wasn't.

Puzzled.
