I am making a case for a new club if SISU take the branded company away. The club in spirit will be left behind. SISU breaking away not the fans.
whats happened to coventry united? is this not an option? were they playing at the butts?
Agreed but only if they permanently move from Coventry or the club ceases to exist otherwise it's just a temporary breakaway.

I always admire people who get on and do things rather than just talk about it (!) and met a couple of the CU guys who seemed like decent blokes, but imho they set up too early, didn't consult people just announced it and the name 'united' was a bad choice. Some purists have also questioned the fact that this wasn't a new start but they actually took over an existing team (Kenilworth Spartans? - I might have got that wrong - and renamed it). I think they started at copsewood then moved to the higgs centre. Got Lloyd McGrath involved which was a good move but are now 11th out of 16 in Midland Combination League 2 so presumably finding things tough - although doing well in a couple of cup competitions. They don't charge for watching games and all costs have been met by the 4 blokes who set it up. Their plan was to run it for a year then hand over to supporters by selling shares but I don't know if that's still the case. I'd say it serves as an example that setting up a new team or even taking over an existing one ain't easy. Also, I think they have already registered the name 'afc coventry'.
Big question for me is still whether people are seriously suggesting a rival team or is a phoenix club only for if ccfc is liquidated - and don't know if steve/cj/a.n.other from the trust could confirm whether the trust would only set up a new team if ccfc is liquidated or if they would set up a rival club for 2014/15. If the trust is going to set up a new club for 2014/15 it is best left to them because they will get full support from Supporters Direct. If the trust would only do so if ccfc is liquidated it would be good to know because others then need to volunteer to do some of the leg work on this
Michael suggests Coventry United might be finding it tough as they are 11th in the league. If you read the table fully they have played half the games of other teams. Games in hand would put them top. Now they are unlikely to win them all....but probably a better side than league position suggests.
Lol! We must have a pint some time cos haven't seen you literally for years - although do bump into your other half at her place of work now and again. I'm not sure I'm understanding this thread right but there does seem to be a view that setting up a new club as a tactic to put pressure on different parties to reach agreement might have some mileage in it, and would be there as a fallback option for 2014/15 if we're not back at the ricoh. I quite like the idea of 'Coventry City Fans' Club' - ccfc has a bit of a ring to it...
So if setting up the new club to put pressure on them and then they come back, what happens to the new club then? Does it get dropped?

Nope, they share the Ricoh and play alternate Saturdays, anyway CCFC aren't coming back in the short term. There is a need for a local football club to get behind.
I can't see any harm in setting up a new club.
A phoenix club, formed by fans, run by fans, can play at various sites in the City. Sphinx, Butts, Allard Way, even the Ricoh. The Council might go for the idea. The smaller grounds could be upgraded, there is scope to build up facilities. I'm sure sponsors could be found locally and with a healthy fan base things could be positive for once.
As I and others have repeatedly said, IF the stalemate is resolved and CCFC did come back to Coventry the newly formed club could very easily be incorporated. It isn't an issue.
This stupid JR decision pretty well sentences our club to at least another season at Sixfields, it will run and run. There are NO talks.
US fans have to be a bit more proactive. No use constantly setting up imaginary obstacles - as a few do on here. A phoenix CCFC can be organised. It will be OUR CCFC. As someone else pointed out, on another thread - for them there is CCFC and a football club and then there is SISU. He loves his club and hates SISU. Sees them as two entirely different entities.
JUST the thought of US FANS actually doing something will focus attention.
There won't be a two team scenario. The phoenix club, playing in Coventry, ultimately at the Ricoh, if not from the start, will get the support. The other SISU abomination playing in Elmdon, or Balsall Heath or Harbury etc, will wither and die.
Today's reversal has surely got to be the turning point. Enough is enough.
You've got people with years of supporting their club heartily sick of it. Turning away in despair. That's not right.
I'm calling on those that attend Sixfields to think again. Join the vast majority in staying away. You 1,000/1500 are key. Stay away and the situation will change. We're talking the future of our club.
Do you want seasons of decline in Northampton? Ambitious players won't want to play in front of tiny crowds in deserted stadiums. The likes of Wilson, Thomas, Fleck, Moussa, & co, will move on. We're in a spiral of decline. Pressley is working miracles.
Time to act. I don't want to hear feeble, we can't do this or that, what if etc. Time to act.
The Trust, show a lead. Don't sit on the fence. Sisu are nobody's friends.
It will be a breakaway club not a Phoenix club.

By your logic AFC Wimbledon is a breakaway club, yet no one classes them as one.
No, AFC Wimbledon are a Phoenix club they were set up after the FA confirmed that Wimbledon would be moving permanently to Milton Keynes. Now FC United......

So when sisu confirm that they are relocating permanently outside the city will you class AFC Coventry as a phoenix team?
Yes, AFC Wimbledon own the history, etc of Wimbledon FC. Believe (but may be wrong) Wimbledon FC were liquidated and the golden share handed over to the new club (ie MK Dons).
if AFC Coventry are set up before confirmation of permanent relocation outside the city I will never consider it as a Phoenix team, I will never support it.

Entirely predictable, ineffectual and feeble, heads in the sands from the usual suspects. Do nothing types it appears.
As Bigfatron says, the Phoenix club wouldn't kick off till August 2014, long enough I'll wager for Sisu to have come up with the details of this new ground. OR resolved things over the Ricoh.
Michael CCFC, I had a private message from you, but I can't open it.
Let's not get tangled up in MK Dons/AFC Wimbledon. It's US, CCFC we're talking about. My take is Wimbledon are the Wimbledon of Plough Lane, Vinnie Jones. The others are Milton Keynes. End of.
No good leaving this to crawl along. All the time we don't have our club in Coventry.
Initially we could talk to Sphinx, talk to Coventry United. I think either would be very happy to talk of upgrading their facilities to cater for say, 5,000 fans. More will get on board once the bandwagon gets rolling.
Ignore the Nick's, the Stupots, sitting on their hands, going along with whatever gets thrown at them. They'll still be throwing wet blankets over everything in a year. YOU want your club, fight for it.

I've not read 13 pages so apologies if my point has been said already.
But think about the actions of going down the 'new' club route. Forget about the off the pitch issues...nothing we can do will stop it. Sorry to be defeatist...many Cov fans have tried many things and it's not working. Boycotting hasn't concerned SISU at all...anyone who thinks it has is wrong. Yes, the attendances are a hell of a lot lower than they forecast but it won't make a difference to them and their aims.
Back on topic...Pressley has worked bloody wonders with this team. He's come into the most difficult job in football in my opinion, knowing the background, knowing the restrictions, knowing the divisions, knowing the in-fighting etc etc. He's taken on a group medicore footballers whose morale was probably shot to pieces and the man has worked wonders. Ok, so we're a little naive defensively and are going through a bit of a blip.
Talk of a new club us totally disrespectful to SP and the current squad. Regardless of what happens, they need our total support, not calls to form some form of Phoenix club.
Each to their own I say....I however won't support any other club until this one is officially dead and buried and that's not going to happen any time soon.

totally agree pal, spionkop go and form your own poxy team, while your at it start your own phoenix forum, so we don't have to read any more of your crap.Well what are you waiting for? You seem to be spearheading this phoenix/breakaway malarkey, so get your application in to the FA, pop along to the Sphinx and tell them your ideas, round up your sponsors, build the 5000 seater stadium (judging by the MK turnout, it's a shame you'll have nearly 2k who can't get in) and start playing.
My club is Coventry City Football Club, founded in 1883. We may not play in the City at the moment and have shitty owners, but I'll never support anyone else.
