At some point Acl have to take Sisu at face value ie they are not coming back, what happens if then they start booking things for weekends and the Ricoh is not available?

It's not about accepting it, it's about not making any rash decisions about a club that's been our club for over a century. Sometimes you have to sit tight and wait things out regardless of how painful it is.

IMO a breakaway club, I.e. One set up before ccfc ceases to exist or permanently moves, will be in direct competition with the club and will further fragment an already fragile fanbase.

Listen I would love nothing more than City to come back to the City but saying that I go to all the away games and the buzz I get at games is slowly draining away there will come a point when its gone and then it will be too late.

Would have to be somewhere like the Butts to start with. Unless you severely limit the Ricoh capacity and get free rent.

Not worth doing anything until proper confirmation the club is leaving the city IMO. But I agree with the nickname and kit. Not sure how close you could get to the badge without infringing IP though. Especially as the two businesses compete in the same market.

It would be hillarious see Fishers face when he hears that City of Coventry FC (known by its fans as Coventry City), nicknamed the Sky Blues, using an adaptation of the citys coat of arms as its badge has been set up.

No doubt he would threaten legal action, claiming those names to be intellectual property of otium.

No problem there but it would confuse the local media:thinking about:

why are people planning a new club on 1 speculative thread?

seriously if the worst does happen and you are from cov follow cov sphinx

i'm from rugby so will follow rugby town and rugby town alone

there is Bedworth united, Nuneaton borough, racing club warwick etc.

if cov go to the wall or move to Birmingham, Hinckley or wherever just follow your next available local non league, they are already established, already have history and will already represent where you are from

Coventry own the civic badge not ccfc

It won't be too late, you will get the big again. Things are shit. But setting up an afc for 2014 start is too soon.

The fact you have named 5 teams there is exactly the problem.

If their not coming back we need a successor club. Something we all see as the continuation of our club.

If we all threw our weight behind a new team it would fly up the leagues.

What made me think about this was seeing how proud the AFc Wimbledon fans were of their club. Because I tell you what I'm not proud of our club at the moment except for the lads that are playing

I'm proud of the team not the club.

I agree lets start the wheels turning.

So it won't affect the sixfields attendances but it will affect attendances if they build outside of the City,
won't get the 7000 he wanted at sixfields in the new legoland stadium.

But AFC Wimbledon were set up after it was confirmed that the club would be permanently moving to MK dons. They set the club up to replace the one they had lost permanently never to return.

The suggestions here are to set up AFC Coventry to put sisu under pressure to come back. What happens when they come back? Scrap and abandon afc Coventry? Abandon ccfc forever?

My view has been the same from the outset. If the club does not return to within the City boundaries my 30 years support would cease. It is so sad to read that back given the almost unhealthy addicition I have had with the club since the age of 7.

Providing a new club played in Sky Blue, were nicknamed The Sky Blues and had a badge as closely resembling the existing badge as they could legally get away with, then they become my new club. If a new club didn't meet this criteria my love for football would all but die, apart from the odd game down at the BLS to watch Weymouth.

Whether its too soon........not sure. Certainly if we kick off next season at Shitfields, with talks ended on a return to the Ricoh and no concrete plans for a stadium INSIDE Coventry, then that would certainly signal a need to create a new club IMO. Maybe sooner. I don't fucking know any more.
Agreed. That's why to me, the OP is bang on. All I care about is a club that best represents the city of Coventry. At present (or at least up until a few months ago) is CCFC.

Still think this build a new stadium lark is utter bullshit, but were it ever to come to fruition, you can be sure it won't be within the city boundary. In this scenario, that's when a phoenix club should come into play. My name preference would be 'Coventry City 1883'

There was a bit of dialogue between some posters and the Trust a few months back. I'm sure the person speaking for the Trust said they were working on contingency plans for a reclaimed CCFC if this feared scenario arose.
Saltaire is perfectly right. The mere idea of a fans CCFC would totally put the wind up Sisu.
Forming a fans version of our club for next season is something we seriously have to look at if it emerges Sisu want to build in Meriden or Chipping Camden or anywhere really that is outside what is normally thought of as Coventry.
Already a few that go to Sixfields now are saying they won't go there next season if this drags on.
It isn't a nice feeling, I'll grant you. Thinking about this. But a reformed CCFC (with a subtle name change for legality) would be ours. No debts. No Sisu. As BigFatRon said - we would fly up the leagues with good support.
We've had years of this Sisu nonsense now. Just when you think it can't get any worse - it does with them.
We'd be flying up the leagues (and the League owe us very much) while Elmdon Sisu United collapse in chaos with no fans.
Don't diss the idea. We'd be the true sky blues.
Of course, it's just a rumour right now and 90% of us believe Sisu don't spend money on building. They make money by destroying and distressing businesses.
But letting 2014/15 go by in another blur like this one is not the way to go.

I think we should explore the idea doesn't mean you have to do it thats why I said when they put in planning permission some might say when they start building just a thought

Exactly! Sorry Tony, but Cov's United & Sphinx just don't float my boat.

A team with the Elephant & Castle badge, playing in Sky Blue, containing the words 'Coventry' and 'City' in it's name would give us that continuity the above post mentions.

Yes Sisu will drag it on for the time being ton keep- us divided need to start up for next season and then take it from there.
If we can get good support then the FL cannot put us in a too low a league as the clubs we play can not accommodate 500 away supporters.

Afc Wimbledon started in the 9th tier, they were getting 3-4k, we won't get any special favours.

Plenty of local derbies - cov Utd, cov copsewood, cov sphinx, etc.

Plus the bonus that players will be paying subs so no need to charge for tickets..

A few months ago we at the Trust were asked by some of our members to look into this and set up a small working party. They have met with Supporters Direct and spoken to the FL about the concept.
Obviously for a number of reasons we have not taken this any further but we do have all the relevant details and information available when required.

Spot on.

Just a serious plan. Leaving it another year is not good enough. We've let Sisu dictate the terms for too long. How about us fans take our club back?

So you set up a new club 'taking our club back'. Sisu then move back to the Ricoh, what happens to the new club and all the money that's been spent on it?

I am going to watch a different club from now. AFC Wimbledon for me. Got to know one of their fans recently through our love of football. We will be watching our club on away days and his club the rest of the time when we are both off work. He is going to be using his holidays from work to go as well.

Going to football games is much more than going to watch a football game. If I can be happy to watch another club that isn't mine I could certainly consider going to watch another club representing Coventry. We could certainly move up the divisions quickly with the support we could get. It would soon feel like our club.
