all french leagues cancelled (1 Viewer)

If the EFL were to void the leagues where would fans stand on bringing a collective action against them, on the basis that season tickets were purchased for a complete season with positive and negative outcomes for teams at the top and bottom. I wouldn't want a refund from the club but i would be mightily pissed off if I'd spent money for a sham season, particularly with it being 75% done.
If all the clubs and fans pitched in we could assemble the mother of all legal suits
All sorts of legal action would start up. For example only needs one lawyer to agree take on all season ticket holders across the league and take a small percentage of any win. You haven't got what you paid for, simple as that.

Same with sponsors, advertisers, TV contracts and pretty much every revenue stream coming into the league and clubs.

Just can't see it happening. If the remaining games get cancelled they will have to put something in place to finalise positions and promotion / relegation so they can then claim the season has been completed.

I hope so, it would be a travesty to just write it off.

I know I have the sky blue glasses on here, but our club has been dragged through the dirt for nearly 20 years, fans made to go to Northampton and Birmingham to watch the side, a rugby team squatting in the ground and only a handful of top half finishes in any of the 3 leagues. Now against the odds we looked sure to win a title for the first time since 1967.

If they try and take it away from us they will reap what they sow.

As you say “sky blue glasses”
The truth is ‘Anyone Other’ than those with a connection to CCFC won’t give CCFC a second thought.

In what way? We can't even organise a half arsed protest anymore.

you can still see them screwing us on our own
eg
Award the title to Liverpool
2 teams up from championship to make top 2 divisions 22 teams
Barrow coming up from non league and probably Swindon coming into League 1

So no relegations, and then our corner which is probably us Rotherham and Crewe looks a lot weeker

Surely just letting Swindon come up would open all kinds of cans of worms.

They couldn't do that surely.

We won't be the only ones screwed as a consequence. It can't just quietly be accepted
It will be. Legal action won't be resolved in a matter of days or even weeks.
I'm not too concerned about a lack of indication as to how this season will be resolved (at the moment) that can surely only mean that our footballing authorities are banking on a government easing of lockdown to offer a glimmer of hope in getting remaining fixtures completed. Suggested dates for commencement/completion continue to be banded about.
I can't see any other decision in awarding Liverpool the title if it's decided this season can't be completed. I'm not sure how the PL will resolve the issue of relegation. The PL of course is in a different galaxy to 'other' football so I don't expect the EFL to follow their lead.
In short, if fixtures can't be completed I just don't see the EFL resolving the situation via final standing or PPG.
Over to the lawyers. Meanwhile what do the affected clubs (those in the top 4-6 positions of EFL) do? Go on strike?
This is assuming a new season will start at any time for the remainder of this year. Or ever.

PL clubs won't do anything unless its to their benefit. Wouldn't be surprised if they'd happily let the whole EFL fold to be replaced by PL2 made up of their reserves.
Sadly your right. PL clubs in the main are owned by Foreign investors who could not give a toss about the history of our game.

Have any professional leagues finished on a PPG basis?
Scotland have agreed to this format I understand. Makes total sense. If we were less than half way into the season I would understand but 70% is really close to the end.

No the spfl haven't decided anything on ppg. The junior leagues have but the spfl below the top flight has be end as is thus partick being relegated even though they are only 2 points adrift and have a game in hand

Junior leagues? Do you mean the Scottish championship and below? If so yes they have agreed to the ppg. I also read that IF the SPL can't be finished it has been pre agreed this is how the SPL will be decided upon as well.

It makes perfect sense vs pretending an entire season never took place given how close we are to the end.

If my sources are wrong be happy to stand corrected by a link to different info.

Deciding promotion and relegation from 3 divisions is goong to be headache. I can see them voiding it and we get robbed

If you apply PPG & assume the team at the top of play-off places goes up automatically, then a quick glance at the top 4 leagues points to:

PL remains the same with regards CL & relegation places. Sheff Utd would swap with wolves to finish 6th
Championship sorts itself. No changes.
L1 is tricky as wycombe would leap-frog to the top of the play-offs & hence win promotion along with Rotherham & CCFC CHAMPIONS.
Relegation is tough on tranmere as they had some form with 3 wins on the bounce before lockdown.
L2 swindon would pip crewe to the title but both still up.

Fingers crossed they go with this option as I cannot see play resuming this season.

EDIT: I didn't actually do the maths, so the wycombe promotion may be incorrect....but who really cares about wycombe eh?
Could go that way still think if it does they will scrap relegation mainly with the Premiership clubs in mind but in all divisions, takes the heat of legal action off a bit. Although it means extra games in the prem that’s much needed extra revenue.

Hi all... haven't been on since the outbreak... been too sore to contemplate no promotion.

The PSG development does give me hope, but the best case scenario I can see (for Coventry) is the following:

1) EFL do not continue the regular season;
2) The Premiership re-starts, almost like a war-time morale booster to entertain people at home (I am sure Boris will give it some bluster should it happen);
3) The Premiership is completed by 30 June... which means there are 3 teams at the bottom after 38 games... therefore there is no legal implication for their relegation;
4) If 3 teams go down... 3 teams should go up, of which the top 2 teams currently in the championship are promoted... This is where is gets a tad tricky, as in who takes the 3rd place (obviously usually a play off)
5) Rinse & repeat down to Barrow taking Bury's place (2nd place go up instead of having play-offs as any further matches have been cancelled).

Yes, there is an issue regarding teams getting relegated, but if it was a EFL member decision (as in all getting the teams to vote for this should out weigh the 8 teams in the relegation spots), then it "may negate the legal implications" (wishful thinking I know).

As regards play-offs... play them. One off semis, followed by final... That's 9 games to play for the EFL, possibly being helped by the Premiership in terms of logistics and testing etc.

any solution which puts us starting next season in the same division as Bolton and on the same points would be the absoloute proof that we are doomed forever - but i wouldnt put that past the EFL !
Our fans have done rock bottom pretty well. It would be at another level if we are in the same league. Feel sorry for any club on their knees. But Bolton have had enough breaks this season.

I did . As soon as I heard about the postponed game. My son didn’t. I had £20 at 16/1. And cashed out at about £251...but I’ve moved on since then. The £70 hit was worth every penny.

With the uncertainty floating around I would have taken the money and ran aswell
