I still look forward to every game and still get excited when we are away on sky + so I get to see more.

If anything I am looking forward to the rest of the season I had become a bit fed up with Robins and Lampard actually does some of the things he didn’t like getting at the fourth official like the other managers do.

I think a couple of decent signings and most on here will get the spark back.

King makes lots of mistakes but he seems to have sorted things like the merchandise

This season is going to be a non-event, we’ll pick the odd win up here and there and for me plod around anywhere between 13th and 18th - We were hoodwinked into thinking this was a side ready to challenge in the summer, for whatever reason it hasn’t materialised

Just looking forward to it being over tbh, as long as we don’t end up getting sucked into a relegation battle I’m happy to let Lampard plod along to the summer, work out who he wants to keep and experiment and let him put his own stamp on the club

Damp squib of a season and tbf with the rollercoaster of the last few years we were probably due one
Ps. Thanks a lot Robbings.

Just watched the Mark Robins Stoke City press conference.

Fucking gutted, he should be still at our club. Couldn't give a fuck about how we start, Robins new the club. The fans, the city and was the backbone of our club.

There feels like a hole in the club is still there. There's no connection with the iPad tracksuits and let's be honest there hasn't been any improvement.
Everything coming out of Stoke City sounds positive at the moment with this new appointment.

That's quite a massive difference to what it sounds like on here, we've got a new manager that no one really wanted or needed, there's been very little by way of a new manager "bounce" and now we are being told not to expect much in the way of incomings this January.

It sounds like Doug has scrapped plan A and replaced it with a less experienced plan A.

What the fuck was the point if we don't change the failing "Deck" we need to bring in 2 or 3 quality additions (loans will do) ASAP.

The transfer window has been open for less than 3 days - give them a chance! Stoke are hardly a bastion of stability; his comments about the owners were just meaningless soundbites.

I think it was probably around March time and CC was sacked a couple of months later. We were hardly convincing to be fair.
TBF to Coleman etc every era has the odd high spot. I seem to recall a couple of decent fa cup games (Blackburn Rovers?), clinging on for a point against wolves with a westwood penalty save... battling for a point against Preston... err... I'm struggling - it was a long time ago.

I do get how Tom/Alex are feeling - I went into this season massively over-optimistic, the cup draw is a bit dull and the last few games haven't been great but there is still loads of football to be played.

Christ - season over?? We’ve been in L2, not played in the city. Had points deductions. Not paid a transfer fee in years. Not sold anyone for more than tuppence. Enjoy where we are, it’s night and day to the recent past.

I remember, fondly as it happens, at the end of the 84/85 season when we had to win our last three games, the final match against the Champions, to ensure our survival. We did it and it was bloody great!

As you said we've had some shocking times recently. What's happening now is nothing compared to your examples in our recent history.

I think some of the newer (for want of a better word) fans have been a bit spoilt, so now they're crying a little.

It's a rollercoaster ride folks, so strap in!

For me, it's the slowness of our play and the preponderance of sideways and backwards passing that's left me feeling deflated. It's kind of ruined the pre-match excitement for me. I expected more freshness and new leaf type excitement with a new manager. Boxing Day showed how it could be different though, plus EMC's good form under Lampard.

Different manager, same average players.

I think it's more there were genuine expectations this year.

We've spent a lot of money and there was enough last season to suggest we'd be there or thereabouts. Or failing that, at least entertaining

So it's just been such a massive letdown with not just poor results, but some utterly turgid football.

King, Robins, pundits, bookies all had high hopes for this season, and were all quite vocal about it in the summer. And too many individuals have let the whole thing down.

Not sure many fans were sucked in and consumed by all the talk per se, but with all the noise we felt we could at least believe in a successful season. No wonder we feel let down. Fuck knows when my next away day will be because at the moment I’m not up to putting any more miles or money into it, certainly with how fuming I was leaving Portsmouth the other week. A team has to earn the level of support that this fanbase is capable of, imo they don’t deserve it right now.

At least in the past we knew to expect garbage and we got on with it, mostly there was never any genuine belief that we were going to positively achieve then, in the SISU days.

Regression was never gonna feel good after 8 good years.

Same problems are there on the pitch that were before Robins was sacked - the worrying thing is now they look significantly weaker. I won’t be judging Lampard until he’s had the summer at least.

They got Robins sacked which is one thing. They’re busy trying it with his replacement too.

The worst offenders need to piss off out of the club and be replaced by decent professionals of the type we had not long ago.

I was there when it was shit and I never want to return to those days

But it doesn’t take away from how dull this season has been, like a flat pint of Carling

"Carling " you see that's your problem that's like drinking a pint of piss, you need a beer with loads of body in it, try Guinness put some lead in your pencil. 🤣

Oh for heaven's sake, we're meant to be supporters; the clue is in the name. If a friend of yours was going through a difficult time would you decide not to go and see him so often? If you're a glory hunter then you've picked the wrong prey. Get supporting!

Silly take. Friends don’t cost silly money to go and see every week.

Mifsud and Best was it? They were both streaky but I'd take both of those in the current squad too tbf.
If Mifsud was managed better he'd have been class.

Edit: not sure why Clints post is also quoted.
Trouble with Mifsud he went right every single time and got found out. Maybe a better coach could have sorted that.

How lucky were we that season. At Stoke, Painter I think missed a pen then we bought him. Everton (already Champions) were so far on the beach when we played them, they might as well have been wearing sunglasses. They played as if they were.

Pearce scored our pen & Stoke missed theirs .Luton game Killer scored late on and Everton were already on the " beach " when we played them.

A lot of us believed this was our time at the start of the season. Much of that was due to the relegated sides seeming to be weaker than in other seasons, with only Leeds looking to be a definite contender. When we beat Everton comfortably just before the season started I allowed myself to believe too, despite having years of experience of seeing that pre-season bore no real relation to the outcome of the season ahead. The first game against Stoke then proved to be more of a guide to our prospects for the season than any of us imagined.

Part of me still feels we ought to be challenging the play offs, as teams that are challenging like Sunderland, Watford and Blackburn seem pretty ordinary. We have of course been shocking defensively and there seems a constant pattern of us starting on top in games in terms of possession, but the first opportunity the opposition get is scored, which is something Lampard hasn't really stopped.

However much we might feel uninterested in the rest of the season, we have to realise that next season's prospects are likely to be heavily dependent on Lampard establishing a good team ethos and style of play in the remainder of this season, and our support will go some way to assisting him in achieving that, while indifference on our part can only harm those prospects.

The days when we used to boo them for being shit all season then celebrate on the last day on the pitch and treat them like heroes. What an end to the season that was

Yes been there since 1977, got to say though in the old days it cost you a lot less of your disposable income to watch a load of disinterested wankers kick a bag of wind 🤷‍♂️
