Went to the Olympic Stadium in Berlin about 10 years ago. The bowl of the stadium is built entirely in natural stone, it's stunning. Can't say much about the powers that built it.
I went in the summer

Amazing ground and walking round it feels like one big history lesson - Best City in Europe as well

Like you say though, there is a bit of an eerie feel to it when you know the context behind it even being there in the first place

we went a few years ago on one of our visits to berlin. amazing stadium.
the surrounding area is interesting, too.

we also went round the old tempelhof airport, which is well worth it if you have the time.

Agreed those sky blue panels look unbleached and shabby, that faint outline of the wasp always made me feel a bit depressed. Not really sure what they could do to make them look smarter. Maybe vinyl wraps?

Same can be said for most newer build stadiums. Wembley, looks tatty AF in parts. Also why on earth did they uses red seats, they have mostly gone pink from sun damage already, looks crap.

I think Brentfords new stadium has more of a patch work of cladding and multicolored seating for this reason, should mask the aging a bit.

Don't Think Those Panels Were Ever Sky Blue, More Like a Dark Green 🍏 if you Ask Me.

And While They're at it They Should Jet Wash the Roof, No Sun 🌞 Light Coming Through in the South Stand.

White stanchions are a must tbf also,if they go down the colours route they'll just end up unsightly IMO!

Of course that's the idea of a fan zone I guess and target the audience or others preferably with sirrupticious advertising!

Feels like short termism. Particularly from the council. This isn’t an Aldi it’s a major landmark in the city for decades.
Agreed, way of the world tho now sadly.

I think you can use cheaper materials with a bit of smart design but again that's gonna cost ££££.

I suppose although some resist, it doesn’t hurt to spend a few quid around the arena complex now on F&B etc. The money has to come from somewhere to keep the place spick and span 🤷‍♂️

The retro writing they have at Ryton or the old sign on the main stand at Highfield Rd would look great
Agreed, from the outside the CBS looks sterile and too corporate.

For not a lot of outlay I'm sure the place could shout out Coventry City Football Club very loudly but tastefully.

The network of white supportive stanchions stand out best in white and is probably the only real architectural detail that gives whole stadium some expression and richness (apart from CCFC badge). Wrapping bits of the stadium to cover up the concrete blocks and naff cladding could look super cool if it integrated club history, art, colour and lighting. Wouldn't be ridiculously expensive either. Not sure Mike Ashley/Frasers have it in them though and CCFC ain't going to do that. Shame.

Might depend how much he wants that place in Ansty to go ahead?

Still shit though. Lots of new builds around us are clad in it. Prefer the Scandinavian approach of bright colours. There's enough grey in the world already.
It's maintenance free I think that's the Idea, until it starts to rot that is?
