Back to being the biggest club in Coventry? (38 Viewers)

i can't speak for Leicester but I get regular emails with offers from Saints (having bought 2 tickets for my son 2 years ago) ... Not sure about freebies but they certainly send lots of offer mails. What could be overlooked is that 1000 free tickets doesn't stop anyone else buying one (because of the size of the ground) and might translate into 500 pints of beer, food, couple of hotel rooms, bit of money spent in the casino, a few tickets sold for the next game, a couple of season tickets etc etc etc .... So in reality 1000 free tickets converts to income it doesn't necessarily mean the franchise is not happy with its fan base.

Don't the casino pay the same rent whether somebody spends 4 million or 4 pound? Same with the hotel. Has that changed and wasps run them now?

I can understand the food and beer, are wasps getting a big share of that now from compass?

Quite telling their fans call it the franchise...

fair enough .... That's your opinion .... I still wouldn't call it a poor turnout though.... And wouldn't agree that casual fans would go to Tigers or Saints, the reality is neither of us know that. Saints haven't filled their ground for any home European game, so not sure where your logic is ? Perhaps they have a lot of floating fans in Milton Keynes. Where did Eastwood say that Wasps are are the biggest rugby team in the world ? I've not read that ! any links ? Id be interested to read.. The reality is that what really matters to a franchise is income and I'd take a good guess that the Wasps franchise have a bigger turnover than Tigers or Saints from tickets, beer, food, hospitality, casino, hotel and renting to CCFC. So I suppose it depends on what's important to the franchise, money or a few extra bums on seats.

It was a poor turnout, compared to the previous season, and lets not try to pretend that Leinster brought thousands to Coventry the year before.

Saints average attendances are nearly always close to full houses, consistent regular attendances with little deviation, and not with a whiff of the the freebies that Wasps dish out. Dont try and dress it up that you get some offers from Saints, as being a Saints fan, I also get some deals, not many and certainly not the desperate freebies that wasps dish out.

Re the Euro games, all were evening/night games or on TV so this does have a small effect on whether it was a full house or not, but lets face it they were close, so dont try to pretend otherwise, so I am not really sure what the logic of you pretending otherwise is.

You sound very much in the Eastwood line of thinking cash is king, so I suppose you must be in Rugby heaven, plenty of free seats and space bewteen fans, and a nice balance sheet to try to pay off those damned bonds. I think a few more bums on seats, and pies need to be sold to cover that. They may have slightly higher turnover but also a mountain more of debt, I enjoy watching Wasps drowning in it.

So wasps (holdings) own the hotel and make money from its rooms? Really?

How many season tickets have been sold?

The same argument is relevant to ACL ltd prior to wasps except they went belly up despite CCFC handing over £1.2 million rent more than they do to wasps.

Are you saying the pie money is sufficient as that's the only difference to the council run ACL is it not?

Your point was about the 1000 free tickets (if indeed there are a 1000) all I'm illustrating is that giving away 1000 free tickets isn't necessarily a bad thing from a business perspective.

From what I understand Wasps make money on the hotel unlikely on a room by room basis but certainly on the arrangement with Hilton and there must be some integration because the rooms become boxes for both CCFC and Wasps games.

No idea on Season Tickets, do you ?

Its not not just pie money .... 15k tickets (16k less your 1k), beer, food, hotel, hospitality (which was sold out last weekend), club shop, etc etc .... So even with a poor poor attendance of 16k I expect the franchise are not doing too bad !

im not dressing anything up or in anyone's line of thinking .... Just saying it how it is and don't expect you to agree. Making a comparison with half of last seasons attendance figures is not really apples with apples, comparing two games against the same team at different times of year etc is the same. Just because one is lower than the other ..... What does that actually mean ? In reality nothing !

If if you want to see a club drowning in debt have a look at Saracens. At least the franchise have a stadium, hotel, casino and half decent football team as tenants. Saracens have a 10k seat stadium they can't fill (despite performing well) and little else.

Reality is that you, me or anyone else on this board can't predict the future and who knows where it will all be in 5 years.

Biggest/Richest, same shit whichever way it pours out of Eastwoods mouth. I am sure it will be up your street.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/32476299

Biggest and and richest financially are two completely different things ..... Perhaps they will be the richest ? .... How do you know they won't be ? All because in your view they had a poor attendance on Saturday .... A little naive if you don't mind me saying. Like me you clearly know very little about running a rugby franchise but make sweeping assumptions to suit your argument.

So he didn't say that Wasps are the biggest club in the world or even the biggest club in Coventry ?

176 pages wasted ?

First you are barking up the wrong tree, I didnt start the thread, nor do I care. You obviously do.

Secondly the Coventry issue, thats to do with you not me, its not my arguement.

Thirdly 'to become the richest club in the world'. Its bull, I am not playing on words so try play the game with whoever it was you were, not me, I thought we were past that.

Sweeping assumptions like your goodself.

Perhaps if you bothered to read all my posts on this subject, which you clearly havent, you would know that I have been raising the points all season about the attendances, not just one game, and future fixtures. Perhaps you should check them out before naiveley lecturing me on something you clearly havent got all the facts about.

I dont know anythoing about running a franchise, but I do know about running a buisness, perhaps you dont, and I suspect all isnt as rosy as it seems.

Who's in denial. We all know they are here and own the stadium, you can't miss the signage.

The denial is that they will still be here in 10 years and we won't have to work with them.

I am not in denial. Its my predication.

At least I have the good grace to admit I may be wrong, rather than just repeating the same old diatribe. Whats your arguement to the contrary?

I haven't got one but in the absence of a CCFC plan I'll go for the ride in both camps.

If you and your ilk didn't put money in their pockets, they'd be gone way within 10 years.

...... and if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

It isn't gonna happen, CCFC have no plans for the Ricoh, so it's nice to see it becoming the success it should have been so I'm going with the flow. CCFC could change that but I won't follow no plan.

No you are right I havent read your posts so apologies ..... But they are not facts they are your opinion whatever you have posted.

13 months of up and down attendance figures are a meaningless way of judging whether a business/franchise is going to succeed .... 24,000 in December, 16,000 in January ..... What does that actually mean ? In the long term it means nothing either way.

You have signed up and only posted on this, onto a CCFC forum. I'd say theres a bit of a motive to signup. Italia loves a bit of Wasps PR but at least he is a city fan also.

If you have no interest in CCFC, then why signup here?

To be fair ranstone, I have always said they are my opinions, there are many differing ones on the site as you are discovering

I obviously have a differing view, but dont want to argue pointlessly with you, as we seem to be able to agree to disagree. I just think their business plan will eventually fail, but of course I could be wrong or might be right, time will tell.

Anyway thanks for the debate.

Whatever way you look at it attendances are down and down by a lot. With the number of free tickets knocking about that has to be a worry to Wasps. Think they've at least in part created their own problem. They were so desperate to get people in they flooded the market with free / cheap tickets. Once people have got used to that its much tougher to convert them to paying customers.
