Ben Sheaf future (11 Viewers)

Sensible to see how Sheaf recovers from his injury and IF James agrees to sign before deciding. Liam Walsh may still be in their thoughts. Sheaf is a decent option to have, we may 'pass' but only if we can bring in better

Yeah I edited

If James was coming in to do the Kelly role and we were releasing Kelly, maybe. But we seem to still need Kelly in doing Kelly things while James is in the team, which makes me question why we need James.
I think James and Kelly have been great together during the last two games. Problem will be keeping them both fit.

I seem to remember that there may have been a question mark over his medical when he came
So he joined on loan initially with an obligation to buy if the area of concern didn't recur

He had a lot of injury problems in his youth at West Ham & Arsenal but thought his last couple of loans showed he was over them. Could be wrong but think they've usually all been different injuries too?

If it's in the city centre, it's still being built, along with everything else.

Anyone else been down? The whole town centre is like a building site.
I just hope it looks better when its finished than it did before.

Shouldn't be too difficult.

I think playing two deep lying players is a sticking plaster that hampers our progress. We've got two men doing the job of one and if neither are up to doing it on their own I'd get rid and find someone who is. We need the attacking impetus a Walsh or a Hamer gives you in that position, or it's all down to O'Hare to link midfield and attack.

If we had a decent defence the back line shouldn't need quite so much protection either.

Don't know the details
Suspect very few people had that info

You certainly lose something when you play 5 defenders and 2 or 3 defensive midfielders,
I think we set up not to lose when we were without Godden and Walker, and we asked far too much of O'hare.
However We need to take James on AND keep kelly, as neither look like they would play 46 games a season, so I'd rotate them as required. With Hamer and Eccles available as well, maybe Sheaf wont be signed, and the money invested elsewhere.

He was shitting himself 541 at home to Wycombe and defending draws when a positive change would of had us more points ? I also came out and openly give him credit for this past couple of weeks how he’s changed it to go more positive,it’s also clear to see I’ve never been a fan of 1 up front 😊
How did you enjoy our L1 promotion season - with 1 upfront?

£750k will most probably end up a bargain for him. I think the future of Sheaf will be dependant on the future of James and Kelly personally

Sheaf was okay remember he played most of his matches without four or five of our better players available and was a bit of a novice to boot. I have my doubts he will be signed on a permanent basis based on having Matty James and there’s young Eccles too but also this summer is going to be a much different market transfer wise, better players will be up for grabs relatively cheap compared to Sheaf.

Get safe tomorrow night and there’s three matches where Robins can look at players and see what they might offer I’d put Billson, Reid, Young, Bapaga and Eccles in that group.

Asked for an update on Sheaf’s longer term future beyond this season, Robins said: “We’ll cross that bridge at the end of the season.”
Can't see him signing him can you ?

Personally and I know some disagree , it would be a good decision for us to get out of this deal

I'm at a point where I don't know what to feel about sheaf , when we were doing poorly I briefly pined for his return but besides that I can't say I've truly missed him

Disagree. Immediately maybe not, but as we have this model of sustaining the club through development I think he’s a good signing. Certainly better in that respect than Kelly or James. He topped all the stats in L1, just like Walsh. He’s young. There’s a player in there we can bring on. I’d put him significantly ahead of Eccles who I’d guess is the other option for a development CM.

I actually think he needs another season in league 1
He's still young
I also want city to try and get Eccles another league 1 loan

Our entire team got caught in possession first half of the season. Players improve, especially younger players. Besides we’ve shown you the stats on his ball retention and it’s as good as anyone else’s.

If only Opta tracked smiles...

How much can you improve a 23 year old though ..I think that's the key question .

Probably 4 / 5 years off his peak

When you look at Jordan Shipley we all question how much further he can go because we can see it ... do you see sheaf becoming something much more as a player than what he currently is

The club will do what it thinks is best

Call me when Shippers defensive stats and passing range is close to Sheafs.

I’ve got to be honest, in a pure football sense I’d take Kelly or James, they have a bit more nous for that role. If we spend the £600k or whatever elsewhere I won’t be crying, but I like him as a player and I think he’ll end up around Championship level. Though I thought that about Ben Stevenson.

I said the same about Stevenson.

Shipley plays more forward anyway ,but it was more an example of when you can see a player has reached his level . Or in Shipleys case , probably past his level
