In a recent interview Arsenal keeper Ramsdale was glowing in his appreciation of Simon Moore as his previous understudy.
I think Ben Wilson has to come into that bracket, maybe not as an older advisor, but whether starting or on the bench he is fully engaged and enthusiastic. He seems to be an important character in the squad, and when he has stepped up this season he has played well. There were a few people very surprised when he got a new contract but the club have been spot on.

I thought JCS should’ve cut it out. Looked like he changed his mind. Oggy said he thought he’d score an own goal but I don’t think even a slight touch would’ve done that.

As mentioned on another thread, I haven't been particularly blown over by Bidwell (although very, very early days) but I must say, I find it really harsh that he is getting some of the blame apportioned here. First;y, it was JCS' man:


Bidwell has to cover Crooks (25) and Jones (35 bottom of the screen) with no support whatsoever. By the time JCS commits to the ball, around the below screenshot:


Bidwell is left in an almost impossible situation. He has to gamble as he is covering three players. He has anticipated (rightly in my opinion) that JCS should be able to block or intercept the cross to 11 (Sporar), the eventual goal scorer. If he had got sucked in, Balogun could well have pulled back to Crooks or Jones who are completely unmarked and people would be saying 'Bidwell got sucked in!'.



He had to gamble because there was zero defensive support (arguably from Shipley with Crooks) so to blame him is very harsh.

It's a messy goal. it's JCS man, drawn into the ball rather than seeing his bloke over the shoulder. Bidwell perhaps could have seen this happening and tucked in but I think that's if we're being really really icky. And MR said Moore could have dropped on the ball to cut out the cross but again, that's probably being really picky.

I do think Moore could have stopped Grays goal against QPR though

Yeah from this it is very harsh to blame Bidwell. There's a few mistakes in there that lead to the goal but I still don't think you can blame Moore.

Some might have. A few put down Miwall's goal to a Wilson mistake but I think that was harsh. He's a good number 2.

Well broken down. I would also say that maybe McFadz should be looked at too. He ran at their left sided player as if he was going to clatter him, fully committed himself, then defended how we were doing it last season and left it open for the player to play it past him and cut inside. He made it a bit too easy for their man.

If JCS had extended his leg he would of put it out for a corner shit goal but we should of scored a few before this. Going to be the problem if we don't support the line striker.

Yup, fair analysis. You can just tell Shipley thinking 'oh shit' in the second screenshot

Not solely, it was a difficult ball to deal with but think you can say he should have been a bit braver coming for the ball. Then he would have probably got the foul he was asking for.

Spot on, literally nothing Bidwell can do really, damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Not one mention from anyone about how easily Eccles & Hyam were beaten down the right side either.

Their scorer seemed to attack the ball with studs up which is probably what made Moore a little hesitant in coming off his line.

Wilson has done nothing wrong when he has been called upon this season and although probably correct in my eyes can be rightly disappointed to lose his starting place based on his recent performances.

Moore since he has regained the shirt has undoubtedly had a bit of a dip from his excellent form at the start of the season.

It would not surprise me if Robins picks Wilson in goal for the saints game tbh!

Could argue why isn't Hyam goal side, why did Allen let the ball come in, why isn't Shippers back, why did JCS not intercept, why did Bidwell not gamble, why didn't Moore drop on it. That's over half the team. Sometimes you have to accept that it was a well worked goal and in real time I didn't blame anyone in particular. In fact I think it came on a breakdown of one of our own moves which would be why lots of them weren't back in position. Very harsh to blame Moore or anyone else imo. We went up there and had a real go imo, not playing for a draw like so many seem set up to do when they come to the CBS.

As for the topic, Moore is a clear number one, but such a specialised position it's hard to get a decent back up who is prepared to wait and be patient without being paid a fortune and in Wilson we seem to have someone who is more than adequete and doesn't moan or complain.

Squad rotation right now is basically “give Michael Rose a game”
