Yep, we'll agree to disagree. There is no way in a million years Lampard will be prioritising what it will do to Collins confidence if he's dropped over what is best for our play-off chances.
He might well decide to stick with Collins but only if he thinks it will benefit the team in the here and now.
The only possible reason for considering his confidence would be if he genuinely thinks Collins has a part to play next season. And if that is the case then I'm lost for words.
We'll respectfully disagree on this one I think.
I have a feeling Lampard will agree with me on this one.Not if it’s between that and Collins it ain’t.
It’s for the good of both the team and the player for Collins to be left out. Find a tactful and diplomatic way to express it to him so that he takes it well. He’s been dropped before and should get over it. I think stubbornly persisting with Collins in goal will ruin our playoff chances.I highly doubt that FL will change keeper for Luton. If he did, it would absolutely destroy Collins and I just cant see hm doing it
Lol of courseHave I misread this? Surely you mean get rid of Collins?
I get what you’re saying but the defence do sometimes have good games. Often the individuals can look good and in a few games they have looked ok as a collective.Dovin has been pretty faultless imo, with the exception of the Leeds 2nd goal in Feb.
The point I’m making is that the defence has been consistently at fault for lots of things over each GK who has played this season. This is the fundamental thing we need to fix next season to be a top 4 and above side, assuming we don’t go up.
Early in the season, it was Dovin not ‘commanding his defence’ and not it’s the defence not being confident because Collins is in goal… how about the defence just has moments of madness more often than they should? It just doesn’t lead to as many goals.
I have little faith in Collins as a GK, but it irritates me when horrible defending gets let off the hook.
I think les sealey now could do a better jobIt’s a Jim Leighton Manu U scenario and some brave decisions to be made ! If only we had a Les Sealy !
Who goes in up front though? The only player left that's not injured is Bassette who is nowhere near ready/good enough. That's the only reason simms is back in regularly is because there's nobody else.Collins distribution is the only asset i see him have as a gk. He lacks aggression, anticipation, decision making, agility, positional awareness as well as communication. In fact he looks petrified unless its a pass back. He is completely shot and needs saving from himself, in my opinion it would be cruel to keep this idea up that he is a championship level keeper.
I don't doubt he cares and is probably a decent lad who works hard. I just don't think its enough to keep him in. I hope FL not answering about individuals is an indication that he is about to make changes to GK and who starts up front or even a system change for Luton.
Indeed.I appreciate that Collins distribution is possibly better than Wilson’s.
However, the primary role of a goalkeeper is to stop the ball going in the net. Collins fails miserably on this primary role.
To keep picking him means we have to score 3 goals every game to get any points.
Every time be blocks or parries a shot he pushes back in to the danger zone never left, right or over the bar. He catches nothing and gets beaten at his near post constantly.IIRC (and I'm not a fan of his, although I'll support anybody playing for us), the ball for the 3rd goal was hit at him from a couple of yards away - he blocked it and the ball span away from him - not sure he had any opportunity to pluck it out of the air. The first shot came through a defender, so he was unsighted. I agree the second was annoying, in that hit went through his legs. Collins is far from what we need - particularly longer term, and it will be interesting see who FL selects for Luton.
If Lampard drops him now it will be an admission that he was wrong to continue with him after previous howlers.
Not sure if Lampard is this stubborn but I don't think he and the coaching team are looking at this from the same angle as fans. I'm 90% sure he will play in our last two (or more) games of the season and 50% sure he will be here next season.

I remember a few months back I asked the question about Ryan Kent, just as a discussion, not because I thought he was the right player or the right fit, just he was a free agent so seeing others points of view on him. I was lambasted by a few who said we don't need any more attacking players, we were already top heavy and had too many options already...... well, look at us now

"Rumoured", 'apparently". Sums up the podcast nicely. On that Cov Pod I listened to last night,it was rumoured that Norm has had a hissy fit about not playing as much apparently

The bloke doesn't even make 'bog-standard' saves FGS!!! He is not mentally strong, despite what Frank said, and lacks the physicality too.Trouble with Collins is he is frightened of getting hurt! I have never seen him dive into the legs to claim the ball, he always drops down on one knee and turns his body away from the ball as if he is trying to keep his face away from the ball. Go through the games he has played and I kid you not 8 goals are in by his left hand post. It's all well him in training pulling off loads of instinctive saves making it look good . If FL put bodies around him in training he would surely see what have seen all season
It's the kind of thing you'd be researching as part of a scouting report. A keeper will likely be weaker diving to one side that the other, most likely the left or whichever is their weaker arm. If I were a striker it's definitely something I'd want to know.Trouble with Collins is he is frightened of getting hurt!
