Villa fan at work telling me today apparently the owner is selling the club to a hedge fund! We all know how well football and hedge funds mix!

When you don't get promoted within the first two seasons of coming down, it then becomes difficult to compete, I can see them struggling next season

Parachute payments gone. Owners want out. Fans will start drifting away slowly but surely.

I don’t get any pleasure from this. We know how bad this can get and I don’t wish it on anyone else. I would rather a decent Villa side to renew rivalry with in a few years than no club at all at Villa Park.

maybe I'm getting soft in my old age but I can't get any pleasure from a club getting issued with a winding up order due to shit owners.

I know it's not popular round these parts but...

I find it a shame Villa didn't win promotion. The West Midlands is a traditional powerhouse of football but we've not had much to shout about recently. Wolves have gone up, but West Brom down. I'd rather we ended up dragged up to Villa's level and played them in the top flight then they crash down to us so it's the battle of the has-beens.

Would rather them, Wolves, West Brom... anyone but Birmingham(!) were in the top flight with us instead of the likes of Chelsea.

Really???
Fuck villa.
I have a villa mate at work who has delighted in our demise. Fingers crossed I'll have the last laugh.

I have only limited sympathy. In my experience their fans are mostly arrogant wankers who cared little about our plight. They've spunked millions on players like Terry, we went down the swanny despite living the existence of a relative pauper. Hope the tax man doesn't miss a penny.

Ordinarily I would agree...but the shit I have had from Vile people - I might meet them with a slightly smug grin on my face if it happens.

Nah, not soft, I feel the same especially where bad owners are concerned.
However, I had great pleasure in seeing Fulham beat them to go up, purely in terms of football of course!

I work in Aston with a few Villa fans. Not one of them gloated when we got relegated to be fair to them.

Think all clubs owned by Chinese owners are going to be in big trouble, think they have new rules over there which makes it almost impossible to transfer anymore cash over to the uk clubs they own

It was obvious the current owner was going to walk away if they didn't make it back to the Prem ASAP. There's no money to be made for foreign owners outside of the top flight.

Even if things go badly wrong for them they'll never fall too far. They're just such a huge club that they should always be able to attract investment.

Leeds, a similar sized, if not bigger club would tell you different. 15 seasons and counting outside the top division including 3 in L1.
Attracting investment is fine, attracting the right investment is harder, especially when the seller couldn't give two hoots who they sell it to and the football league give less than two hoots.

They will be back in the top division at some point but if lurking in the EFL for a number of years is what's needed to bring their fans down a peg or two I'm all for it.

Beating them in a Championship final play off in a couple of years from now would be an absolute dream

And they need to change that stupid name of theirs.

Who in their right minds would call themselves Aston?

Not taking any delight in this. All it is showing is how football in this country is broken and getting worse.

How long before it all goes tits up and far too late to fix.
I agree, but maybe they can fix it after Villa have gone down the pan. :)

Dispite everything’s that happened to us I still quite enjoy other teams getting in a mess. Vila have obviously been spending money they haven’t got in a gamble to get back up, yet couple of villa fans at work won’t have it that they’ve spending loads of money

They must think an average of £2m salary per player per year grows on trees.
