CCFC- what do we want on Match-days? (2 Viewers)

My response:

Hi,
I was very pleased to see that the club are asking fans for their opinions on this as it is something I feel strongly about and that the club does not currently do well.
I feel that going to watch the sky blues should be more than just watching a game, it should be an event with many facets and attractions, especially for children. Kids have pester power and if they want to go then the rest of the family will get dragged along.
I would like to see entertainment outside the ground and inside the ground; jugglers, balloon artists, magicians, dance troops, etc. Colorful, vibrant, exciting and fun! I would like to see fair ground style attractions inside the ground, not large ones obviously but side stall type football related games and challenges. These could be run as independent businesses or even by volunteers.
I would like to see the Ricoh sporting our colors on match-days, with giant club badges and pictures of club legends. There is a lot of unused space inside and outside the stadium which could be used creatively
I would like to see face painters for the kids offering sky blue 'war paint' I would like to see the club giving out free sky blue balloons, flags and hats.
Football is tribal and the club needs to reinforce this tribal identity by making fans feel special and part of something exciting and fun, again; especially the kids. Create an atmosphere that kids want to a part of, will talk to their friends about and want to repeat, win, lose or draw.
I would like to see players who are not in the match day squad in and around the stadium on match-days, ready to talk to fans, answer questions, sign autographs and offer footy tips to youngsters. They are employees that are not properly employed on match-days.
I very much hope the match-day experience improves and I am sure that if it does, this will help to inspire the people of Coventry to get behind the club and the team.
Thanks,

The job of promotions manager is yours.

I think the kids 5-a-side thing is a positive. Stuff to keep the fans entertained.

Think they have tried bands before, but it is such a wide ranging age difference amongst fans, I just don't think they can please everybody and may turn a few off.

What about every home game showing a classic City game on the scoreboard, either before the game or at half-time. That would be really good to see and keep everyone entertained.

There are videos going back 50 years, so there should be a wealth of really good highlights to delve into.

It's great to see old City players at games, waving to crowds, but what people would really love to see is players in action in their heyday.

Be great to see the likes of Ernie Hunt and Willie Carr, Ian Wallace and Mick Ferguson and Dion Dublin and Cyrille and Stevie Hunt and Colin Stein and Mark Hateley and so many others, doing what they did best.

Following on from this, I think it would also be fantastic to tie in with a highlighted game, if a player from the game was interviewed now, in the present day, speaking about that game in particular and reliving the memory.

The club could also tie in with CWR, who have ex players interviewed at home games all the time over the course of the season. If the CWR talk to the club to find out which game footage is out there, then Clive Eakin or whoever, could specifically ask the player about that game in question and their memories of that game.

The club could then run the footage at a later date, with narration from one of the players involved in the classic game.

Some do want more though, Macca. Some are not getting through the turnstiles and they need enticing. Great football goes a long way to achieving that, but the better the match day experience is, then the more likely many will return.

Jugglers and magicians seem a bit over the top, how difficult though would it be to blow up some sky blue balloons to release in the JSB zone and hand out some large ccfc flags.

Some good ideas about getting players involved, I think it should be when sky blue sam goes over to the jsb zone to kick out the footballs. Get either a former/current player over there kicking the footballs out in the JSB zone, taking photographs and signing autographs at half time. Same for the halftime competition they sometimes do.

Good ideas about showing classic games on the scoreboard at halftime as well.

I really liked the shoot for a prize (Kick for Cash) competition we used to have – where a supporter try’s to kick the ball into the empty net then has the opportunity to take the ball further back for a bigger prize.
That used to keep me in my seat at half time – fantastic!
You could even have a hit the crossbar from the penalty spot or D competition as a double your money add-on that has a prize fund that carries over to the next home game if its not achieved.

Kick for cash is/was crap I thought, I'd rather they have several kids/sunday league teams 5 a side games going on. Get as many involved as they can.

Better than kick for cash might be to have people take penalties at a keeper. Maybe have the City youth keeper in goal and let people take pens against him.

5 pens and if they score from 3 they win a prize.

Think with kick for cash was that most people struggled to hit the ball more than 10 feet and more often than not would hit the corner flag. I think something like penalties would be a bit more dramatic and entertaining.

I'd rather they put a team on the pitch that competes to get out of this league, rather than pissing about with 'The match day experience' winning your home games is 'The match day experience'

People do always want more, but for football when reminiscing, do you remember Hucks taking on the entire Manu defence and scoring, or the Sky-blue Belles at half time? There are some good ideas on here, the 'none playing' players mingling pre match sounds great. The Pop and Crisps that they did in the 60's might work in encouraging kids and those with kids, but getting it right on the pitch has to be number 1 for most match day experiences.

You can't see how a good match day experience might lead to a better team on the pitch?

Was good a Notts County away with our fans cheering at every goal, getting exited when a player was through on goal. The kids loved it too; fantastic!

tbh I don't think the fans will get massively excited/entertained at whatever is on the pitch at half time. That is why I think the 5 a side is the best idea as it gets the most people involved.

Turn down (or turn off) pre-game music towards kick off; kills any potential atmosphere, yet many clubs do it!

Let's be honest 15 minutes gives hardly any time for anything of note, most people pop off to the toilet and/or buy a drink or come back to have your flask, etc. half time entertainment is a bit of a red herring.

I agree. I think there should be much more going on pre-match

Following on from the idea of the kids 5 a-side teams...

Maybe matches could be made with teams connected to the away team. Their kids get to play on the same pitch as the team they follow, parents/family/friends from City and the away team may go, maybe they could even be given a 10%discount on tickets or something. To make it fair games could be offered to different local clubs on a Rota basis, therefore it's not the same teams and players who always get this opportunity. Boys, girls and maybe mixed teams. Disabled teams should also get this opportunity. (Do Hereward college have any teams? Are there local teams?)

I really like that idea Otis, hope they put some old classics on. For example Ndluvu hatrick at Anfield ,still the last player to do it, and when we beat Liverpool when they were at their best 4-1 at home I think it was
ndlovu not the last player to score hatrick ..

I don't think they're offering a choice between the two.

Fair enough, just not bothered personally. I go to football for a football match, preferably a good one

You're right. The two are mutually exclusive. Thanks for your input.

We'll just tell the marketing team to get their kit on shall we?

With all due respect. Why the hell do you go to a decidedly below average League 2 side then? That's far better football matches happening all over the place and on TV, if all you want is to watch a good game and the atmosphere and environment doesn't matter, why leave the house at all?

Our kids scored in injury time, as I recall :)

Otherwise, what a bloody abject day that was.

I would go revolutionary as Hill did years ago and use the Jaguar hall before games like wasps and encourage fans from both sets of teams to go in, have a family zone in there with PS4/x box on big screens, penalty shoot outs at one of our keepers, we are paying for them. Give out free flags to winners/good scores, or even a few free training tops, these are pence for the club to buy.
Ex and current players signing and picture sessions, could even pay for ex international players to come and sign, someone that might attract a fan or two to see someone famous. You cannot underestimate how young children want to meet players like Henry, Beckham etc. OK, I know we are not going to get them but we must be able to get people like Southgate and people involved in the FA, maybe even Hodgson? They are all about grassroots football.

Old games on big screens, player interviews, manager interviews etc a mini MUTV on match day. Footage that can only be seen in the hall, not via you tube etc
Pictures with trophies (may have to borrow some)

Encourage 2-3k of mixed fans to mingle before and make every away teams children's ticket be £1 and the same for our children. They are the revenue stream in 5-20 years time and away fans will travel more in numbers and make our fixture similar to our Previous MK trips.
More away fans will create better atmosphere and that is then part of the match day experience.

must have a decent sales outlet, the amount of on site purchases on a cold winters night game and a scarf or hat is needed or your child is pestering you for something because they are bored, without one like last year means missed revenues. Flash sales at each game, so an extra 10% or 20% off for that game only and tailored items but at reasonable prices, I hate them but the mixed scarves sell the club pin badges sell, even if the club don't make them, encourage those that do to be allowed to sell. The club doesn't need to make the pound profit from those, it will be making more of 4 beers and tickets.

Have Local bands wanting to make it, have them play for free to self promote or even school bands of which there are plenty.
The area wouldn't attract the stupid fans who still want to fight and having been a parent for 22 years and still attending with friends with children, the hardest part is that there is nothing to do before the game except play I spy etc Not all fans want to sit in a family zone and have the area in the ground, create one outside the game where there is an abundance of activities and you are on to a winner.

the club also stopped sending coaches into schools to cut costs, huge mistake, that is where you win some of them over providing them with the chance to meet a player and help them out.

pop and crisps (one for those over 30)

As a dad who purchased his sons first ticket when he was 3, the long term cost to me has been 18 (no Northampton) years of season tickets, football tops, dvd's etc. Ok, we haven't had that kind of experience above but the game and youngsters are changing, generation z have less long term loyalty of interest so the day has to ever evolve, equally, premiership football and you could say, who cares, but actually, clubs like ours need these to differentiate ourselves from the default Chelsea top purchase for their child.

When I buy a bottle of coke for my lad, let me keep the top on the bottle. That is all.
Oh, and one other thing, half naked serving wenches to deliver beer to me in my seat and sit on my lap and make me feel better when we are losing.

A winning team, all the rest is peripheral & largely inconsequential.

It's a football match not a day at a theme park. A lot of you would be better off going to watch American football or the franchise.

Maybe that's what some folk are doing, hence the dwindling gates. Is it wrong to try something different to increase attendances? To increase revenue? To increase the amount the club can spend on transfers or wages?

Like most people here have said, a winning team (blah, blah) is what would work best. Totally. However, the reality is that bridges need to be built and the 'match day experience' needs to rival the alternative many 'fans' have chosen.

Christ, does nobody else go to.watch the team they support? Not sure I'd need fire eaters, people on stilts or waltzers for that?
