Im no expert on their situation but I think that could mainly be down to the way the Glazers financed their take over.
That's why he won't buy the football club, he knows how much it would cost to buy the club and how much it would cost to buy players, contracts etc.
Look at Manchester United apparently one of the richest clubs in the world and yet their £350m in debt.
it's also why he would not raise the rent to a level we would ultimately see as unsustainable, anyone who thinks he would just raise it to a level we can't afford is frankly wrong. If he has any interest in the club the less affordable the better for him (I have no idea if he is interested or not)Ashley is a business man. He bought the stadium to make money. A stadium isn't cheap to run. He will expect a decent return for the outlay. He won't care how much it affects us as long as we can still afford to pay.

Does seem funny that we’ll see say £2m a year as “unsustainable” then go and spend that on a couple of players. Would love to know what the definition is. Championship football is unsustainable full stop, the aim is to get out of it.
Really surprised a PL club never went in for Hamer this season even for £15K.Was speaking to Dave boddy about that. He genuinely felt that in yok and Hamer we had two players of genuine top quality and that we could make a better fist of it than Luton

Arsene Wenger always said the drop off of challenging and winning titles was a result of funding the new stadium.I think it's more that the CEO got very excited about their prospects of returning to the PL that in August it was announced their stadium capacity was increased to 25k from about 17.5k. The whole project is earmarked to cost around £450m.
Likely not all their money but a sizeable chunk will be. There's also the issue of how they're going to fill it when their average gate over the past 5 years (excluding the PL season and Covid) has sat around 10k.
Fair play to them but it does feel like they've bitten off far more than they can chew.

There's no option of playing elsewhere, the vast majority of clubs turned us down last time and Birmingham only took us in because we were willing to pay £1m worth of rent. The CBS is it so that's where we'll play.
FG are more than entitled to increase the rent to whatever they see fit. As mentioned, if they're seeing the club attract an average gate of 26k, sell players for 7 figure windfalls and bring in names such Monzo as sponsors, there's a perception that the club can afford it.

Meh, I shan't stoop myself to calling it the tinpot club purely based off the fact if we hadn't have won it, or at least made the final the rise that followed may not have happened* Not Championship but couldn’t be arsed to start a separate thread. Blues have managed to get to Wembley in the tin pot cup, their first visit in 14 years.

2 things i can't quite figure out though, i'm still not sure from the rules if the spending this season will catch up with them/hold them back spending more next season or 2?
Also are they actually serious about this new stadium? As it seems like an awful idea. The core support simply isn't there to warrant a bigger stadium, would be a complete white elephant. Extending the small stand at St Andrews, if anything at all, would be a better idea.
From the outside it seems most of what the owners are trying to do is to the benefit of their property portfolio, but lets see. Still a weird club with weird fans and weird owners, whether it works or not.

The fans weren't as welcoming to us playing there as they have you believe either and they are always trouble whenever we have them at the CBS as well
That being said I do think they are headed for better days under their new owners, whether the stadium happens or happens to the full extent of the proposals remains to be seen and I think depends on a lot of investment into B'ham's public transport system, which as Brum Council are skint their owners are going to have to fork out for from their own pockets or hope for funding from central government which they have asked for (You can guarantee if it was anywhere else in the midlands they wouldn't get a penny)
They will do well next season and I can see them going up again after a years consolidation in the Championship but talk of them being at the top table of English football is nonsensical, they will never be big enough for that but I do think they can turn into a consistent bottom half PL club

Not sure having a wealthy owner is enough to guarantee that, you still have to get a lot right, and with spending rules in place your recruitment has to be bang on to have a chance of dis-lodging the parachute teams. Their recruitment is obviously more than good enough for League 1, but it'll take a fair bit more than what they have now to get out of this league. Lydon Dykes and the like still signed up for another couple of years isn't going to get you very far.

They claim fairly publicly that hosting the club every game loses them money - and we have a Licence only - a Lease would be far more expensive
