It is not critical for us to win tomorrow.

Don’t get me wrong, it would be great. But it’s far from critical.
Perhaps "important" may be a more apt word, but in any case what I was going for here is that it's getting to a point where some teams like Boro are starting to fall away. I think Sheff Wed's loss today and against us will also be a psychological blow for them. By the same token I think beating Preston will give us a massive lift. Winning any which way is what matters now as we approach crunch time. Those last minute wins against QPR and Sheff Wed were big.

At least don't lose to the teams around us. It's amazing to think if we'd of lost to Blackburn the other week they'd be 10 points ahead of us instead of the 4 they are now.

Boro have absolutely collapsed since Xmas

Always thought Carrick leave there on his own accord to a bigger/better job but I can’t see him lasting much longer

His stock has absolutely plummeted in the space of a few months
It's kind of expected, how many did they pick in January to give them a boost, seems to have had the opposite effect.

To stay in the race, you win your games. Basics.
We have joined the race by winning games. A single defeat won't matter much. All the teams around us have been losing games. That's how we have caught them up/gone past them.

A must win game would be last game of the season with a win guaranteeing a place in the playoffs.

Realistically only Watford and Norwich can go above us this weekend. Just a draw will keep us above them. After this weekend we will be between 6th and 10th.

Well Bristol went ahead of us already

And?

It was only a couple of weeks ago on here that we were hearing we would never catch Middlesbrough as they were above us and had games in hand. Yet before we play today we are 3 points ahead of them and have played the same amount of games. I still see QPR as more of a danger than them.

Of course it would be great to win today. We would go back above Bristol City who are now in 6th. But even a draw wouldn't be a bad result in the table. 1 point behind Bristol City and nobody behind us would catch us up.

There's still over 1/4 of the season to go after todays game. A win won't mean we're going to finish in the top 6. A defeat won't mean we will fail to make the top 6.

And as I said before I think we will win today.

Just thought I'd add a few things for a bit of perspective.

Preston have only lost 1 game since January 1st. That was away to Blackburn 2-1. In the last couple of weeks they have got through to the 5th round of the FA cup, beat Norwich away and drew with Burnley. They don't score many goals but don't let many in either. In their last 10 games since January 1st, including 2 cup games, they have scored 10 goals and had 7 against. In this run they have played Watford, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Norwich and Burnley. 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat for 10 points.

Anyone expecting a win today is either being unrealistic or are deluded.

‘Deluded’ is a bit strong for expecting a home win against a team below us in the actual and form table. We’re playing Preston not Xavi-era Barcelona.

You need to pile on and take the 7/2 available on Preston. Coventry’s form for the same period please?

Against a side that has only lost 1 in the last 10 whilst only letting in 7 goals?

Did you miss the bit where I said I think we will win?

But 'think' and 'expect' are totally different. My money would go on a draw. 0-0 wouldn't be a surprise.

To be fair thinking on Boro, with their game in hand that was probably a good result for us last night.

Think Bristol will drop off as we all know there not allowed a playoff space

Currently
Blackburn Pl 33, Pts 51.
Coventry Pl 33, Pts 47.
If Blackburn had of won
Blackburn Pl 33, Pts 54
Coventry Pl 33,Pts 44
So yes the 6 pointer does actually exist!
Norwich was supposed to have been a 6 pointer.

Talking of Norwich..... Preston beat them at Carrow Road last week. Norwich scored more goals against us in injury time than they had shots on target against Preston for the whole game.
