Of course it is an important appointment and a new manager is always a gamble. We have had experienced ones with provern records at Premiership level, Reid and Coleman. We have had managers who had provern records of getting clubs promoted from the championship Mickey Adams, Iain Dowie and Ady Boothroyd. None were any good here. Whoever we appoint needs proper support from his employers and that will be the problem whoever we get.

I think people are forgetting some key facts here:
1 - Thorn had no coaching qualifications or experience when he took over at coventry. It was under the understanding that he would get his badges and improve not only the squad fans results but also himself as a manager. But as we know, in the end all he is a great scout end of.
2 - Shaw on the other hand has three years of coaching experience with Millwall and a months stint as caretaker manager. He is highly respected by fans and players both in his playing career and as a coach. So far he has shown a cool head (something Thorn didn't always have), a commanding presence both in the dugout and on the training pitch and a love for city that surpasses (in my opinion) a lot of the managers that have come before. After three years of coaching, he deserves a chance at managing and as someone said on another thread, some of the management candidates we mentioned started their careers in this league.
I'm not saying I'm completely decided, what I am saying is that this is nothing like the thorn situation. He has more experience and is in my view a much better prospect for management than Thorn ever was. My only wish is that it had been Shaw in that situation 17 months ago and not Thorn. Then we'd still have Thorn as scout and who knows, we may still have been in the Championship. That of course is just a guess so don't chew me out for being unrealistic etc.

It does feel like the Thorn appointment all over again, and it makes me worry. But if Shaw is the right man we don't want to miss out based on what happened with Thorn.
Two completely different managers.
It's tricky, I'd say give him time to prove himself but we can't afford to do that. As much as I like Shaw and his one goal for us was one of the highlights of my CCFC supporting career, I'm being cautious at the moment.

Its not thorn all over again and if that was the reason shaw would not get the job that is no hindsight,how would you feel if a new manger comes in lets the backroom staff go shaw gets another crack with another club and does the busniess.Im not saying give him the job on last night game but i also don't think you can rule him out because of what happened with thorn.

It shouldn't go by colour but by ability. Does it though? Having Shaw as manager could help fix what is wrong with our game. The choice should not come down wether he is black, yellow purple or whatever. It should be wether he can do the job or not.

Although I am counted as being white I know where you are coming from. I have an half Asian daughter. Members of my family were racist. Not spoken to a couple of them for nearly 27 years.

Maybe bring a more experienced manager with a good reputation to support Richard Shaw. Maybe someone such as Steve Coppell or Bobby Gould even. Just to sit in the background and give advice when needed. It would aid his development and provide him with someone to turn to in his hour of need. Just a thought. :thinking about:

Alex Ferguson for instance. Before he took the Manchester United position he managed:
1974: East Stirlingshire (Old Second Division)
1974 – 1978: St. Mirren (Old Second Division)
1978– 1986: Aberdeen (Scottish League Premier Division)
1985 –1986: Scotland
1986 to Present: – Manchester United (Old First Division / Premiership)
or Harry Rednapp:
1983–1992: Bournemouth (Third Division)
1994–2001 : West Ham United (Old 1st Division / Premiership)
2002–2004 : Portsmouth (Divison 1 / Championship)
2004–2005 : Southampton (Premiership - Relegated)
2005–2008 : Portsmouth (Premiership)
2008–2012 : Tottenham Hotspur (Premiership)
These are just two examples of highly rated Managers who have won Silverware and are household names. Both started in relatively low divisions at the beginning of their Management Careers and both have gone on to great success. Just because Shaw hasn't managed before, isn't to say he can't do the job. This could be his big chance to show his calabre and i will be watching his games closely. But ultimately, its SISU who must decide and if its a case of not having enough money, then Shaw will probably be the choice!

It's not that we won that particular game 3-2 that fans are excited about it's the way it was won with an abundance of: skill, flair and attitude spring to mind totally lacking during our 9 win season in 2011/2012 - a completely different ball game was played last night and it was a pleasure just to be there.

Considering the amount of black players that have been in the game in the last 30 years or so, there really should be a higher proportion of League Managers than there are or have been.
Can't think of too many, only Ince in the top flight, then there was Chris Kamara at Bradford, think he got them promoted on the day of the fire, Keith Alexander at lincoln(sadly died from a brain tumour a couple of years ago), must be others, but can't think of any off the top of my head.

I imagine that once the 'rawness' has died down, some will be passing the myth onto the next generation.
It is interesting to see how cults do develop though, I am waiting for Thorn to be given credit if we win promotion at the end of the season.

i found it interesting to see how various manipulations of players positioning was utilised,
& to good effect,
whilst appreciating that we do not have world beaters, we do have players worthy of accepting instructions,
there are many positive signs that can be drawn from the b'ham game,
not at least the contributions of players previously dismissed by many,
i wont get carried away though, and would await progression,
whilst AT may have been removed, would it not have been positive to see our owners talk, or announce, in a positive fashion,
as owners, or a PR machine sisu remain a disaster area

One thing that did concern me about Shaw was in his post match interview when he said he didn't have a clue who to take off with certain players having cramp and Kilbane being old etc! Came across as very engaging but maybe a bit naive to me. Liked his honesty but would prefer someone who knew exactly what to do!

Off the mark there Astute..it was just an observation pointing out his admitted indecisiveness...no Shaw Bashing! I think he might do a good job but it's important all the contenders strengths and weaknesses are considered before we give our full backing to anyone...especially after what happened last time! I also think him having sense of humour is a huge positive but you do realise although he was laughing about it he was serious about not knowing what to do? We're all entitled to our opinions without being accused of being AT/RS/A.N.Other bashers.

Saying Kilbane is old gave it away he was adding a joke. How many on here said his legs had gone before he had even played for us? 120 mins is a long game for anyone. We had one sub left. We had more than one player struggling. Not the oldest player on the pitch as much though.
