After 34 games last season, Sunderland's record was W18 D14 L2, so 1 point better off than us and a very similar record. To think they ended up 5th from that position.

Not saying this will happen to us, but it does illustrate how a team pretty much unbeatable for most of the season can suddenly go on a bad run out of nowhere.

Feret thank you for pointing this out. It's a fair point. What caused their slump I wonder? Injuries, suspensions or maybe a very tough run in? Would like to know so we could make the comparison.

Yes, I've always thought that type of activity to be a 'Marmite' kind of thing.
Personally, I'm drawing the line with getting the bunting out and enjoying a strong cup of tea. (Loose leaf)
Irrespective of the spread you use, it's certainly not my cup of tea.

One thing I would say is, people are setting themselves up for a massive fall. If I was an opposition fan looking at this forum and seeing like 6+ threads on us being in the championship etc and we didn’t make it, I’d be thinking smug/arrogant pricks. For example, imagine if Sunderland were in our position and had that many threads on it. I’m not saying don’t get excited, it’s the most exciting time as a cov fan most of us have ever lived through, but there are still five games that need winning.

there is also the opposing argument that confidence breeds success and for too long we have been the most depressed & negative set of fans around.

personally I think it’s great- up the expectations, up the confidence and enjoy it. Enough of this over dramatic, “you’re counting your chickens” bullshit- if we go up or we don’t it’s all down to us now and there will be no crying from me if we don’t, it will mean we fucked it up ourselves and that’s that. But for gods sake, let’s be confident and push them on now- we’re clear at the top with a game in hand, if we can’t be smug now when the fuck can we be??

It’s simple- they had a bad manager and the players weren’t good enough. Neither of those things applies to us. We need to stop looking for ways in which the stars might align to rob us of our destiny- we go up or we fuck it up, it’s that’s simple.

Your best post, by quite a stretch.

Trying so hard not to get carried away but tonight was a big night without us kicking a ball. Must stop listening to the voice in my head saying the stars are aligned.
