City agree fee for McDonald (1 Viewer)

Meh I wouldn't think into it too much, rather him than Clingan or Keogh. The only thing i'm worried about is next season when our loans leave and we don't have a squad.

AT said "I have been looking at him for a considerable time and he was my number one choice as a recruit so I am delighted we have secured his services."

It's not naive to believe it if AT said so. He had absolutely no need to use that language otherwise. He could just as easily have said "We've wanted him for a long time", "He has been one of our top targets", etc. Nobody knows what happened behind the scenes - perhaps it was a McDonald character issue - so there's no need to be an apologist for AT.

Exactly, why say it? Simply just say we are chuffed he has signed, think he will have a good role in the squad etc!

Shame, if true. He hasn't had a chance here to show what he can do because of his injuries. I'd like him to stay.

Brighton fan's re-tweeted Hoskins:

'Quite alot to take in at the moment. This has all been sprung on me. Not gonna comment anymore though as u possibly know more than me lol'

Would seem to hint at that Bournemouth speculation being correct, methinks.

Perhaps Bournemouth offered more than we paid for him and we thought that was an offer too good to turn down for someone who is nowhere near the first team?

AT did this, AT did that, AT sold this player, AT sold that player.........

AT is seriously constrained in all deals. He does not decide if we can afford anyone. All he can say is who he would like. Don't mean we can have them. How many people really think it is up to him on who we sell or extend contracts on?

Not at all. But he did come out and say McDonald was his number one target.

I have no idea what has gone on, because the lad has hardly kicked a ball in anger. We haven't even had chance to see if he is crap or not.

Nobody, are SISU forcing him to say certain things too?

Laughable how the Thorn out brigade jump on this and try to use it to bash him with.

Maybe he was his number one target after every other number 1 target was too expensive. Maybe he was given a couple of quid and told that was it and see who he can get. If out of all available strikers he was the cheapest and able to afford him then he would have been his top target. Just like he would have prefered Rooney, but he was slightly out of our price range.

Thanks for reminding me. I keep forgetting it is all black and white and you have to be either for Thorn or against him.

There are NO inbetweens.

He's hardly played because he's injured. Not rocket science.

Not trying to bash him, just why has his number 1 target hardly played and being touted for sale?

No, you're not allowed to question anything, Nick. Everytime anyone questions Thorn about anything he may have made a mistake with some people on here jump straight down your throat.

Yet, many of these same people questioning are among the first to come on here and praise Thorn when he gets it right.

I always got the impress AT was saying what was expected of him, he could'nt come out and say "I got my second choice, Lets see how it goes"

Has't the lad got an injury anyway ..?

Also if you criticise you are of course pro SISU that wretched organisation that tortured AT and forced him to say all those nice things about hopeless old Cody.

Well it is a weak argument I think. Despite the constraints AT came out and said McDonald was his number one target. Number one target from what list I don't know, other than Le Fondre was apparently on the same list.

Whatever happened it appears Thorn may have made a mistake here. We've hardly seen the lad get a game.

I know the lad hasn't had be best of starts, but I honestly, I don't understand why city fans are so gleeful about trashing there own plays. :thinking about:

No, but he could have said he was a player that we had been after. No need whatsoever to say he was his number one target unless he was mayber trying to appease the fans, told lies or indeed, he was his number 1 target. Why say something so profound? Absolutely no need to do that. Just say we are pleased to get him and he had been on our radar for some time.

No, what's laughable (in a 'if you don't laugh you'll cry' manner) is the knee-jerk, unquestioning, aggressive support of AT at every opportunity.

There's big talk of McDonald being sold after only five months of him being here. Some fans, justifiably, raise questions about that in consideration of AT's comments about him being the 'no.1 target'.

Now...you could make a perfectly plausible case that CM is being sold because the club is starved of cash. If you want to put an anti-SISU spin on it you could even venture that the sale would be made against AT's wishes.

Unfortunately many have chosen the wrong issue on which to act as AT's apologists, namely his own damn words. Even then you could say that it was an unforeseen issue with CM, but instead you wish to pick a fight with 'the enemy' (reasonable fans asking reasonable questions).

Christ almighty, what's next? Does AT hold any responsibility whatsoever?

For me that's just semantics. If anything I think he was trying to get behind the lad and give him some confidence and support on his first day at a new job.

The comment was meant as irony rather than be literal. People can agree with thorn or not but to suggest he was forced to say McDonald was his number one signing is stupid. If he was a bad signing so what? But some will say he was forced to sign him and that we will never know. What I would like to know is if he only had to sell turner to raise funds to buy him. Then it looks an appalling misjudgement.

Sorry CM, but all I see is aggressive knee-jerk bashing of AT at every opportunity, by the same few who get all uptight when ever a fan dares to show support for there manager. shock horror

How is it aggresive or bashing? If it was SISU there would be uproar and protests but if AT lied about something it was because he was made to. If it was Brody he would be hung drawn and quartered....
