Not sure why the government keeps delivering headlines instead of delivering reality. They just keep setting themselves up to look incompetent.
School catchment area
Not sure who Ian Harris is but he should at least do proper comparibles (on an annualised basis), not just picking and choosing random figures from some countries and not others.
where’s the deaths for Spain, Italy, France for Nov ?!! Is he saying we should’ve been more like Sweden ?
ps Im also pretty sure the GDP figures are wrong or at least the way he’s framed/presented them is misleading. Looking at the forecast ‘growth’ figures for 2020, here’s a few example estimates for the year
U.K. -10-11%
Spain - 11-11.5%
Italy - 10%
France - 9.5%
I’m not for a minute saying we’ve done well but why frame bullshit in this way...try to depress the country even more in the middle of a pandemic ?!! Nice one. He appears to be the other end of the spectrum to Williamson (we’re better than everyone else), who’s also a prick !
edit - Happy Friday though all.
Yep not a big fan of the governments handling of this but comparable countries are all just as bad. The unstatesmanlike nonsense and analogies and metaphors pisses me off too.
But looking at Spain and Italy and France everyone has been caught out and managed things very poorly. Very few worldwide leaders come out with any credit at all
Its so dumb. If they all agreed to move to Stoke then Stoke Park would be an Outstanding school being massively sought after.
With you on the deaths figures, especially absolute numbers and not per capita.
Not sure I agree on the GDP figures though, your figures seem to be projections, but those figures in the tweet are data from OECD I believe. We have had one of the worst economic performances, this is a good overview:Subscribe to read | Financial Times
The main takeaways seem to be we were slow to lock down and the PPE procurement process has been wasteful.

Noticed last night when they were talking about who gets the vaccine first, which seems to be changing as medical professionals are being bumped down the queue, they slipped in that we're getting an initial 800K doses, enough for 400K people, but have no timeframe on when we'll be getting anymore.
The way it was being spoken about by the NHS chap on the radio was that the next delivery wouldn't be anytime soon. Sounded like the 800K could be everything we get this year.

Some things are out of a government's control. I'd still rather have Germany's handling of this, than ours, however.Agreed Pete. We were all ill prepared and have struggled to get to grips with it. I honestly do think every nation (with the exception of some of what trump/States have done) has tried to do their best in unprecedented times though. Look at even Germany’s numbers for the second wave...and I rate Merkel - not looks wise ; )
Hopefully 2021 will be better for everyone
In itself, not a problem either. It's inevitable a difficult to transport vaccine will take a while to get through the supply chain. Think just about every sane person is prepared to wait if there's progress.Noticed last night when they were talking about who gets the vaccine first, which seems to be changing as medical professionals are being bumped down the queue, they slipped in that we're getting an initial 800K doses, enough for 400K people, but have no timeframe on when we'll be getting anymore.

You know what I wouldn’t be surprisedAfter Williamson’s diplomacy they probably pulled the order and thought ‘f*ck ‘em’ !!!
That’s true and fairSome things are out of a government's control. I'd still rather have Germany's handling of this, than ours, however.
An awful lot of countries seem to have dithered this time out, nobody wanting to put themselves at an economic disadvantage by shutting down. of course the consequence is, we all have, but half-heartedly, and then all the shops end up hamstrung at their busiest times of year, anyway!
Oh, as for the business travel, that must be a joke - surely!

You have to remember though that their health service capacity to deal with it is far superior to ours so their numbers relevant to hospital capacity are a lot better than ours and that’s the real important number. Our health service is in a lot more danger of being overrun than theirs and that’s the point deaths can just spiral and spiral.Yeah, just to clarify, 100% Germany appear to have dealt with it the best out of the similar sized nations in Europe, just making the point that even they have struggled to contain the second wave looking at their numbers over recent weeks
Your MP is a twat. Was saying how he wasn't going to vote with government about restrictions, because Rugby shouldn't be tied in with Coventry. Missed the fact that Rugby's rate was above Coventry's when the tiers were decided, and that Rugby's tied to Walsgrave ever since they nuked St Cross's A&E facility. You have to remember though that their health service capacity to deal with it is far superior to ours so their numbers relevant to hospital capacity are a lot better than ours and that’s the real important number. Yeah. He’s a twat. Although he did support all the early day motions regarding football governance and CCFC’s predicament. He’s also been very good regarding seeing Brandon reopening as a motorsports venue, backed it at every turn and been at every meeting with residents and motorsports promoters ect from what I’ve read and heard. Other than that though...Your MP is a twat. Was saying how he wasn't going to vote with government about restrictions, because Rugby shouldn't be tied in with Coventry. Despite his homophobia I'd always assumed he was a half-capable MP, but he seems to be ignoring his own statistics for populist drivel now.
His Dad was a decent MP, even if he was a Tory I'd kind of hoped he'd be cut from similar cloth, but he seems even more of a reactionary tool.Yeah. He’s a twat. Is it correct that the vaccine only offers about 3 months immunity?
Is there going to be any attempt to deliver the vaccine to the under 55age group ?
I'd have still thought this is the age group to target as they're the most active both through work and social activity , unless it has no effect on infectiousness?
But they will need to be done anyway if the mooted health passport materialises regards carrying on leisure type activity, flying etc .
Yes just pondering the confidence that it may hold some effect on onward transmission.yes there will be but they are quite rightly targeting those who will be most risk of dying first. As more vaccines are approved you will see the speed that they work through the categories increase.
Once the AZ/Oxford vaccine is approved that will speed things up as it is far easy to use from a logistical stand point and you can then take the vaccine out properly into the community.

Doesn't seem to suggest that though,
would be a pleasant bonus outcome.
I'm refusing the Oxford one unless they print the Union flag on like was suggested by someone definitely not a moron, it's all well and good being protected from a virus but if you can have a booster shot of bulldog spirit along with it you're unstoppable. Side effects include stiff upper lip and an aversion to truth
Surely folks who are longing to get back into the pub will be welcoming the vaccine in with both arms,Just looking on social media and it’s amazing the vocal people who’ve just spent the last 3 weeks talking about their human right to go to the pub have fuck all to say about the welcome news regarding the vaccine. It’s almost as if they’ve built a political career out of peddling fear and positive news is no good in promoting their personal agendas.
Surely folks who are longing to get back into the pub will be welcoming the vaccine in with both arms,
I know I am.
The thing is regarding Covid19, when the media go out to report on pubs and the behaviour of those using them, they tend to head for Soho, Mathew St in Liverpool and other big city popular nightspots.Depends if they agree that a 99% reduction in deaths and hospitalisations is enough to stop ruining everything

It really doesn’t give a fair and balanced representation of how the vast majority of British pubs have been doing things since this all began back in March ‘and that goes for owners, staff and customers.
Agreed. My big concern is that we normalise things that really aren’t necessary
Depends on the folks. If you’ve made or are making your career out of peddling fear then the great news and hope from a vaccine being rolled out isn’t for you. I’m talking specifically about the public voices here like Farage and out of work actor Laurence Fox. Can’t see that either of them has said anything about the vaccine. It actually looks like Farage took a couple of days off social media he was so perplexed by hope in the population.Surely folks who are longing to get back into the pub will be welcoming the vaccine in with both arms,

We don’t know for sure. Think it’s likely to be longer than that. Trials had their second shot about four months ago:

Cheers but with me being too lazy and busy to find things myself I have another question
Let’s say it’s 6 months, then what. Another round or do we expect it to disappear during the immunity period with less potential hosts?
