The main takeaways seem to be we were slow to lock down and the PPE procurement process has been wasteful.
Agreed Pete. We were all ill prepared and have struggled to get to grips with it. I honestly do think every nation (with the exception of some of what trump/States have done) has tried to do their best in unprecedented times though. Look at even Germany’s numbers for the second wave...and I rate Merkel - not looks wise ; )

Agree mate. Yes, they are projections and as far as I’m aware reasonably up to date. I think the annualised growth will be a more accurate comparison (I might end up being wrong but I think the differences between us and the other EU countries I detailed will be nearer my figures ie the projections than his/the way he’s presented his)

Noticed last night when they were talking about who gets the vaccine first, which seems to be changing as medical professionals are being bumped down the queue, they slipped in that we're getting an initial 800K doses, enough for 400K people, but have no timeframe on when we'll be getting anymore.
The way it was being spoken about by the NHS chap on the radio was that the next delivery wouldn't be anytime soon. Sounded like the 800K could be everything we get this year.

pfizer have cut production in half for the year due to ingredients not being of high enough quality. So who knows what will get what from them now.
After Williamson’s diplomacy they probably pulled the order and thought ‘f*ck ‘em’ !!!

Some things are out of a government's control. I'd still rather have Germany's handling of this, than ours, however.
An awful lot of countries seem to have dithered this time out, nobody wanting to put themselves at an economic disadvantage by shutting down. of course the consequence is, we all have, but half-heartedly, and then all the shops end up hamstrung at their busiest times of year, anyway!
Oh, as for the business travel, that must be a joke - surely!

In itself, not a problem either. It's inevitable a difficult to transport vaccine will take a while to get through the supply chain. Think just about every sane person is prepared to wait if there's progress.
So yeah, they need to stop making big claims to let everyone down when they don't happen!

Yeah, just to clarify, 100% Germany appear to have dealt with it the best out of the similar sized nations in Europe, just making the point that even they have struggled to contain the second wave looking at their numbers over recent weeks

You have to remember though that their health service capacity to deal with it is far superior to ours so their numbers relevant to hospital capacity are a lot better than ours and that’s the real important number. Our health service is in a lot more danger of being overrun than theirs and that’s the point deaths can just spiral and spiral.

Yeah. He’s a twat. Although he did support all the early day motions regarding football governance and CCFC’s predicament. He’s also been very good regarding seeing Brandon reopening as a motorsports venue, backed it at every turn and been at every meeting with residents and motorsports promoters ect from what I’ve read and heard. I'd have still thought this is the age group to target as they're the most active both through work and social activity , unless it has no effect on infectiousness?
But they will need to be done anyway if the mooted health passport materialises regards carrying on leisure type activity,flying etc .

The response this time is much more fractured largely due to economic hawk's getting an extremely lenient hearing .
It's turned into a typical but me me me excercise through what has been extremely weak leadership , confusing and sometimes illogical baffling messaging and permitted activities.
All far too complex.
Definitely not at all in it together.

yes there will be but they are quite rightly targeting those who will be most risk of dying first. As more vaccines are approved you will see the speed that they work through the categories increase.
Once the AZ/Oxford vaccine is approved that will speed things up as it is far easy to use from a logistical stand point and you can then take the vaccine out properly into the community.
Yes just pondering the confidence that it may hold some effect on onward transmission.
Doesn't seem to suggest that though,
would be a pleasant bonus outcome.

People just need to hold their nerve and be patient. Vaccines are not going to wipe out the virus overnight so we need to be prepared for what will be pretty horrible news to come in cases and death counts come January if people do go overboard at Christmas.
Hopefully April or May we can start to relax and have a really messy summer

It’s almost as if they’ve built a political career out of peddling fear and positive news is no good in promoting their personal agendas.

The thing is regarding Covid19, when the media go out to report on pubs and the behaviour of those using them, they tend to head for Soho, Mathew St in Liverpool and other big city popular nightspots.
It really doesn’t give a fair and balanced representation of how the vast majority of British pubs have been doing things since this all began back in March ‘and that goes for owners, staff and customers.

Depends on the folks. If you’ve made or are making your career out of peddling fear then the great news and hope from a vaccine being rolled out isn’t for you. I’m talking specifically about the public voices here like Farage and out of work actor Laurence Fox. Can’t see that either of them has said anything about the vaccine. It actually looks like Farage took a couple of days off social media he was so perplexed by hope in the population.

You may need boosters but that would just be like the current flu jab.
Left (*guardian) and right (*Mail) both pedal negativity just from different angles. This is also echoed on social media bubbles on both sides. I don’t get it myself, especially in the middle of a pandemic. I’ve said before, god knows what would’ve happened if our current media/social media had been around during the world wars....no need for propaganda, our own media would’ve done enough to drag down the morale of the country.
Bizarre but guessing thats what sells/makes money. It’s a bit sad really but that’s the world we live in, people would rather find fault and negatively, than focus on the positives, especially if that negativity is aligned to their usual way of thinking or helps to re-enforce their own views
