What can we do though if they take the next step from the controls they have enacted today?

Not sure there is much we can do but you would expect some strongly worded statements around breach of trust etc, probably legal action against Pfizer (assuming they blocked Pfizer export) and/or EU (not sure of the international law/how it impacts trade agreement so don’t quote me though) and it would lead to us and potentially other nations refusing to export vaccines to the EU due to trust being broken. Who knows though. Let’s hope it doesn’t get that far

Retaliatory controls would be a mistake

100%. I was responding to DODs reply asking what we could do in response anyway, so was more hypothesising. Should’ve used the word possibly not probably. Who knows though and as I say hopefully it would never come to that.

Ps might also depend on impact to our roll out strategy, if it’s not significant then would definitely just sit tight.

Where will this all go next. Complete and utter carnage.

It’s safe to say we would never be allowed back in the club - the snarling embittered federalist movement that the EU always has been is exposed for all to see - the latest threat over Ireland given its pretend concern over the GFA is genuinely disgraceful

On a practical level, make sure those who've had one jab, get their second!

Shouldn't be squabbling over something so serious, though - there has to be a solution.

I'm not one of these flagpoles in the sand won't change my mind no matter what sort of people and this is seriously pissing me off what's happening right now. Even taking vaccines out of it I hope it doesn't have further consequences in the future.

What can the UK do though? It would be madness to invoke article 16 themselves as that would be a Republicans wet dream and how can we take on a trading bloc the size of the EU.

Pfizer has mentioned maybe moving their production out of the EU but that isn't realistic as they are struggling to provide enough Vaccines anyway and really, really need the Sanofi plant in France they have signed up to product their vaccine.

The J+J vaccine is also made and developed in the EU by Janssens in Belgium.

I don't think the EU really think they will get any AZ UK produced Vaccines but they can give the UK a serious kicking.

Also it seems to be not just about the UK they left Russia and the US off their Vaccine control exemption list.

Sturgeon attempting to suck up to EU by releasing the figures on supplies of vaccine allocated to Scotland. Cannot despise this woman and her cause any further, doesn't deserve half the poll numbers she gets.

What an arsehole. She's actually just like the brexiteers she hates. It would be brilliant to see how exposed she would be should they gain independence.

BTW, I have absolutely nothing against independent Scotland conceptually but I don't believe her or the rest of the SNP are good faith actors.

They are putting it down to "an error".

I'd be surprised if full disclosure was allowed by the terms of the contract anyway. Why does the UK need to disclose anything? The EU contractual problems with AZ are just that, fuck all to do with us.

The AZ contract with the UK will be for vaccines to the UK.

How the UK decides to distribute the vaccine won't be covered by any NDA.

The SNP are an awful party who pretend to be progressive but what harm does it cause?
