If you listen to what he’s saying it’s that some won’t be vaccinated and some the vaccine won’t work (it’s not 100% effective). When you consider that only about 30% have been infected for the current death toll, and a first jab is only 70-ish% effective. Until everyone’s had both jabs which isn’t scheduled until the autumn I believe, there’s plenty of scope for more deaths.

Nah, there is still a gap for deaths, but nowhere near what there has been.

Considering the virus is virtually harmless for a large chunk of the population, once the vulnerable people will have had their second (won't be long), the serious risks are effectively gone completely. As it stands, most of the vulnerable people are now 70% covered. Talking about a third wave and crushing people's hope is just a load of shit.

Some of the posts in this thread perfectly illustrate why there is a good chance of another wave. A big chunk of people have got it into their heads that once the vulnerable have had their jab we can all go back to how things used to be.

We'll learn nothing from this. Look at Asia after SARS, wearing masks in public became commonplace, we can't even get people here to wear them at the height of the pandemic.

Not to forget that there will continue to be mutations, and these mutations will make the vaccine less effective, then having to wait for an updated vaccine to be made then rolled out.

How did they book you in? Letter or text from your practice? I moved house last year but haven't yet changed practice, I tried to register online for a new one but don't think that worked. Might have to travel for my jab if invited for one.

If they don’t have your mobile phone details the chances are you will not be contacted so would need to call or book on the you gov site for a test centre if you receive a letter

The decision to spread the doses out has saved lives. If you want to worry about new strains you’d have to move second doses forward and lose people to the existing strain.

If a strain proven to be resistant to one dose of the vaccine shows up here, then we’d need to lock down again. But we’ve got until the end of the year and there’s plenty of natural breaks and the summer months, plus the really vulnerable will have had two doses by the summer.

The risks are always there, but on current data it’s the right decision.

What are you talking about, he's trying to get people to still be careful as the current vaccine program is at best 70% effective leaving a large amount of people that would still catch it and die from it if we aren't careful.

I think I do as well yet have also questioned the alternative of doing the most active of society IE :- young.
Transmission is lowered drastically from the data now available.
This was exposed in the comments of whitty yesterday .
His diachotomy that quick release now would endanger those who couldn't or wouldn't have taken the vaccine .

One thing I'd be interested to know from those on here that know about viruses is why the virus doesn't appear to be getting weaker when it mutates?

Everything I read early on said there would be mutations as the virus battles to survive but the mutations were likely to make it more contagious but less dangerous, that doesn't seem to be happening. Seems to be more contagious and as dangerous, if not more dangerous, or is this just the press misrepresenting things?

In most areas you will be contacted by the NHS via letter to offer you the chance to book at one of the centres (ie round here Stoneleigh) if you don't take that up or your GP is ahead you will be contacted by mobile via a text inviting you to book or contact your surgery. If there is no mobile they will contact via landline if possible, if still no answer they will send a letter.

I think this may have something to do with people being infectious before they show symptoms, which is not the norm for most other infectious diseases where the symptoms themselves are necessary for infecting others. This would mean that a more infectious strain still succeeds in reaching more people even if it kills Patient Zero some time after. What happens to them matters less to the virus than it otherwise would.

As it is more infectious it presumably also makes more viral particles in the body, hence the higher death rate. But that latter point would need lab testing to be sure.
