Really hope there is no tiering systems talked about again after the outbreaks in Bolton and that.Agreed. I understand the concern but what pisses me off is they quote/print some random scientists saying there ‘could be’ 6k-10k hospitalisations per day over the summer in a worst case scenario (more than in Jan/Feb !)...how does that stand up to any kind of scrutiny when, by all accounts, the vaccines are effective against current mutations, even one jab stops hospitalisations by 70%+ in the high risk categories (presume this increases the younger you are) and vaccines reduce transmission maybe by 50% ?! let alone taking into consideration there should be far more outdoor mixing over summer (compared to Dec-Feb)....assuming this shit weather improves soon !
I ‘could be’ a euromillions winner and sleeping with Margot Robbie tonight but realistically I’m (slightly) more likely to be nipping to the local chippy and watching some shit on tv
When a lot of the country are understandably still anxious the media has an important role to play in reporting facts rather peddling hysteria (which most have done throughout the pandemic). They don’t appear happy unless the country is in some high state of anger or anxiety, it’s wrong.
Ps Johnson holding a press conference at 5pm. Let’s hope it’s broadly positive (or at least not negative) news
I don't know. It has been though.
There's proof of the Italy one, but it hasn't been massively covered.
There's been tons of coverage of flights between India and Australia with COVID-positive passengers on board. And as others say, the media is jumping all over this story. I think it's more likely that you're getting mixed up than there being some kind of conspiracy to cover up COVID in India.
I'm not, and it is a bit arrogant to assume that.
There was a specific case which I was talking about that I can no longer find any links to.
It's pretty clear at this stage there has been flights leaving India with Covid-positive passengers that the authorities have not wanted people to know about. How do they all test negative before departure, but 12 hours later suddenly test positive? I'm not just talking about 'A few cabin crew', to save you the effort of trying to post a link in response.
The situation stinks.
Does the dog eat your homework often, or does he just like the stuff about incoming flights?
Its a fucking joke, just hope Boris doesn't cave in again we've all had enough of thisThe media are absolutely flogging "indian mutation" aren't they this week?
Constant news app alerts, get fucked.
Boris at 5 with Chris Whitty. Related to Monday!? What do we reckon?
Lock us down and throw away the key

The cases cominging into the UK are covered on The BBC website.I don't know. It has been though.
There's proof of the Italy one, but it hasn't been massively covered.
A briefing document drawn up by officials at Public Health England shows that between 25 March and 7 April, 3,345 arrivals from India were registered in UK border travel data. Of those 161 - or 4.8% - tested positive for Covid-19 after a PCR test.

I’m as ready for 21st June as anyone else. But the people who complain about constant/extended lockdowns as if it’s some kind of conspiracy, what do you think ‘they’ (whoever ‘they’ are) gain from extending it?
They don’t put lockdowns in place (or extend them) for shits and giggles, it’s done for valid reasons – i.e. saving lives.
I don’t expect (or want) the 21st June date to be extended though.
If anything, the people wanting lockdown extended the most seem to be people like Dom and Boosh so they can complain about lockdown being extended.
Absolute needs to be more help for people with mental health issues. Its an area that has seen huge cuts it recent years as its seen as a soft target compared to cutting something like caner treatment. How many people will kill themselves today?
ONS said:4,902 suicides were registered in England in 2020, equivalent to a provisional rate of 9.9 suicide deaths per 100,000 people; this represents a statistically significant reduction in the rate from 2019 when there were 10.8 suicide deaths per 100,000, but caution is required in the interpretation of this decrease.
The reduction in the number of suicides registered in 2020 from the previous year most likely reflects delays to coroner inquests, because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, as opposed to a genuine decrease in suicide.
Is it not just a different type of test? Doubt it'll be a PCR to get on a flight or even if it is, given the testing turnaround and the risk on the flight itself, not unreasonable to assume that people were not infected at the point of test.Yes, I know. The point I was making was two fold:
1) The pre-flight tests that are happening in India before departure are obviously either faked, or at best, shite.
2) There was one incident about a flight that went to Australia where there were no cases on departure, but a shit load on arrival. That article has now gone.
Something is clearly not quite right.
Blame the University of Warwick they're doing the modelling! But they aren't just picking numbers out of thin air or trying to get lockdown extended. If you read their report they give different figures dependent on how much of an increase in transmission the Indian variant brings which at the moment is an unknown factor.Agreed.

So use the January peak of 3,768 hospitalisations a day. Their modelling, which takes into account the number of people vaccinated suggests that anything above 20% increase in transmission is a major problem. So we have to hope it is established the rate is below that. But the figures ramp up quickly. 40% increase in transmission and even with vaccinations the modelling suggests 6,000 hospital admissions per day if restrictions are removed as planned.
People need to stop thinking we've vaccinated the old and at risk so we're good to go, the science doesn't back that up.
Who knows, but I just got offered a jab today. Bear in mind I'm 29. That's pretty good going.
There is a big thing going on about SAGE, but to be honest I'm trying to stay away from the news.
You shouldn't post whilst being jabbed NW!AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH
Not really.Yes, I know. The point I was making was two fold:

The 5pm conference looks to be about surge vaccinations
UK to allow ‘surge vaccination’ in Covid hotspots hit by Indian variant
PM to outline how government will counter sharp rise in infections linked to B.1.617.2 variantwww.theguardian.com
Something they were dead against until Blackburn w/Darwin council just went ahead and announced it anyway
Not really.
Get a test 24 hours before takeoff. Negative. Get in a taxi to the airport with a cab driver whose drive twenty people around that day. Get covid.
Get into your full flight with everyone else and everyone gets it.
It’s not all some big conspiracy, it’s quite possible
Compulsory vaccination please for the selfish idiots who have had the chance to get one for months and now see fit to spread variants around.
It's personal choice though surely? People don't have to have one if they don't want
Not if it triggers more NHS burden because they believed some bullshit on Facebook
A 'burden'....yet the new hospitals built ie the Nightingale etc weren't even used - pffffffffffft
Ah I see you’re one of them
Why do people say that kind of thing 'You're one of them' when stating a fact to them? Ridiculous
