Despite not being there for cultural purposes, I could tell it was a beautiful city.

Didn't have health insurance. Picked up a cough on the way back home from the stag. A cough with broken ribs was genuinely the worst thing I've ever experienced. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

If I ever go back, which I'd love to do, I'll try some Palinka.

I got taken to a bar that only sold palinka.

Literally the menu was just about 10 pages of different flavoured palinkas. Certainly does the trick.

Yes. It's going to make some people really really poorly, the majority now will have no symptoms and after a bit of rest will be fine.

So how many people are currently on life support due to Omicron?

It's ok saying there X cases and X hospitalisations but if a huge chunk are going into hospital for other reasons but have tested positive on going in or before it doesn't show the current severity.

The majority of people who've contracted the virus have always been fine, if they weren't we'd really be in trouble.

Of course it will go up as people will be going into hospital and because it's symptomless for even more people than before they won't know they have it.

The issue will be people sat at home unable to work when there's nothing really wrong with them.

If there's over 100k people positive per day then there is probably over 1M per day in reality. If someone goes into hospital with a broken leg and tests positive for Covid while in are they counted on the figures of hospitalizations? For all the injuries and illnesses in the world a 1 in 50 chance of having Omicron is not really that low. Starting to think hospitalizations is also not a good barometer of the severity

Incidentally (and I'm sure there must be a website/blog that's covered this...), I'd love to know how many different scientists that have been quoted (both for and against restrictions) during this. Prob near 100. If a newspaper/website wanted to find an expert to reflect their view, I suspect they wouldn't have to look too far...

100% Pete. This data isn’t as readily available. ONS might have it in their weekly report which is then out of date by a week but it should be shown daily. I’d imagine as time goes on the figure of ‘with’ will increase but hopefully ‘because’ will stay stable(ish).

Also, they’ve then got to consider vaccination rates. I’d imagine londons hospitalisations/ICUs will be a lot higher than say Cornwall, because their vaccination rates are so low. The anti vaxers are just looking more selfish by the day

Seems like a lot of the increasing covid hospitalisations are just people who were in hospital already and subsequently caught Covid. Overall numbers I don't think are massively increasing. I'll try and find the source of that.

Good feed. I only look at same figures on PHE stats for Covid inpatients and ICUS which are a far better representation especially if those in hospital because of Covid are remaining in for a lot less time

Noise in the media today about cutting self isolation to 5 days. I think USA did this for key workers a while back and now rolled it out for whole country. We should do the same for the NHS especially as it’s pretty clear omicron is far less dangerous for the vaccinated than other variants (and almost impossible to stop the spread). Id imagine staff shortages will be more dangerous for patients than risk of spread (extra precautions for those working around high risk and vulnerable though)

We should be ending isolation for schoolchildren altogether. Education taking too much disruption with the current rules.

Particularly those in the exam classes it’s causing even more anxiety than already exists over whether or not the exams are even happening, which we won’t know for a while yet.

Yeah, it will be during Xmas break in particular and just the quantities. 7 day averages are probably a better steer on all figures
