Yes, it's a dilemma. To be honest, there are lots of people who are self employed, or small businesses' that "prefer" to deal cash only.

I have no real answer about the newly self-employed, hopefully there will be a formula to help them in the next couple of months. But it should be a relatively simple process for HMRC to look at how much profit the self employed or small businesses' have declared to date.

There may be a reason for allowing late submissions, but those that have already done the right thing - declared and paid their dues by the Jan deadline, and have 3 years of returns with HMRC, should be allowed to claim that 80% from now. This should help ensure their cash flow and not put additional pressure on banks or themselves by taking out loans.

Yeah but that’s at the mercy of other variables whereas deaths and critical cases isn’t. Also one data point does not a trend invalidate. Honestly think you’re on the down slope now.

I can tell you for a fact NHS workers appreciated that gesture, and most people could quite easily participate without breaching social distancing.

Not me. I want to work as much as I can so I can get out of the house as much as possible. I feel sorry for those stuck indoors for 23 hours every day for weeks/months on end.

Ironically, the tightening of ir35 has been put on hold due to covid. I appreciate that swathes of those working in the gig economy are simply exploited workers; but many others are very well renumerated non-payroll employees who have been happy not to take the protections and fringe benefits afforded to payroll workers, in exchange for salaries that typically equate to 2.5-3 times payroll, in part inflated by only paying 20 per cent tax on 'paye' and divis. I work alongside self-employed folk who typically pick up between 450 and 750 per day working in the public sector.

The support from the public is great, but my son as a Doctor on the Covid19 ward still doesn't have protective equipment.

I think I speak on behalf of nearly everyone when I say that your son's a hero along with all other healthcare professionals. Unfortunately these false promises by the government every other day will continue to be met with a retweet/share from those who voted for them, without realising that barely any of these pledges have been achieved.

The obsession on the part of governmentalists that we can't challenge previous actions, nor suggest in a constructive manner how things can/should be done differently, is worrying. How do we learn from past mistakes if we don't own up to them? That's a shocking level of arrogance that no doubt the flag wavers will be quick to defend - indeed they're willing to give up their own wellbeing for it.
