Been a really good couple of days out here for news.
Confirmed that the bars can open in all the Commercial Centres from Monday, which almost all are in Commercial Centres and a few hours ago the president confirmed that from 1st July we are open to tourists again :)
In the few hours since it was announced my phone has not stopped ringing, done 170€ in work already and arranged for a lodger to come over for the Uk and rent my spare room :)
No deaths out here for over 1 week now (GC,) Tenerife has had 1 i think and also only 5 people left in hospital recovering with the virus.
Things are looking up, now let's hope the UK sorts itself out and gets the same numbers.

Great news mate! Pleased you've turned a corner. Hopefully we won't be too far behind you.
Will there be social distancing measures in place in the bars and shops?

Great news, delighted for you. I saw a video of the top commercial centre where Mollys is, being refurbished now. How long is that on for?

Thanks mate, yes there will be.
50% capacity on the terraces and 30% inside and tables need to be 2 metres apart but whilst no tourists that's not a problem and we can sit at the same table even if not the same household.
Need to wear a mask on the way there if you can't guarantee 2m distance but once in you don't need it. Hand sanitizer has to be available to everyone.
In 2 weeks it should go to 70% capacity if new cases don't shoot up.
Weather has also kicked in and it was 94º today, can't wait for 2 weeks Monday when i can use my pool again :)

It's being done in stages mate, so at the moment Dicey Reilly's The Royal Oak etc (start of the centre) are almost demolished but the others are open until they are refurbished and then they will do the next area and so on, so only a few bars/Restaurants will be closed at the same time.

There's something a bit suspect about the twitter trending topics. At no point has Dominic Cummings been trending despite pretty much everything related to the story trending.

As a result people have started spelling it wrong, DominicCummngs, and surprise surprise its the number 2 trend.
I've read it relates to the scunthorpe problem. Makes sense. I can't see Cummings reach stretching as far as Twitter

I read this earlier but wondered if it might be veering too close to conspiracy theory territory- how could he/ the conservatives influence twitter?

but yes- in Ireland the number one trending item is “Durham”, “lockdown violation U.K.” is in there too, every single story in there is about Cummings... but nowhere anywhere in the trending list is “Cummings”

the guardian too- they are reporting that Cummings was observed 30 miles away from Durham in a “well known tourist location” when he was apparently isolating..

Great stuff Pipkin .
Hopefully it can be sustained and you can establish a little pot to fall back on in the future .
Then just the return to a functioning routine that brings the contact to connect socially and emotionally.

They're learning. Too many stories in the last couple of years have disappeared with no impact after some complete BS was thrown out to refute them.

Just let them fall into a trap. The call obviously went out to give the protecting his kids line as every Conservative MP tweeted the same thing even through the guidelines specifically said if you had symptoms and issues with child care to contract your local authority. Trap laid and they've fallen straight into it.

Great news. Fear we're a long way from a similar situation.

Let's hope so mate, until we have tourists i'm not at all worried as the virus has basically died here.

The lockdown was so heavily enforced and so strict that people were to scared to go out, no money coming in from the government besides promises and minimum 600€ fines for 1st offences.
Maybe that was the way though, it kept the deaths number down and now we don't have it.

Only issue was the mental side, think they could have helped more there my making sure people got money to eat.
I've always tried to keep a little pot but the week before lockdown i spent 3k on stock as no warnings about what was to come. I was only just getting back on my feet after paying off all my debts after the Mrs passed away otherwise i would have been better prepared.

I know one thing, whatever i get in now gets saved in case of a second wave, i can't go through that again with no money.

Advantages of being on an island! Oh wait...

How reliant is the local economy on tourism? Hopefully they don't let people in too soon.
Very heavily mate, the north (Las Palmas) is like London, all the office jobs etc.. down in the South it's almost all tourism. Without it we are f@#+%d.
It's why people are prepared to gamble with tourism, with tourists we can slowly build again and where i am they have spent millions on new centres etc.. without tourism, well we are doomed i tell you doomed lol.
So many people have everything tied up here and if no tourists we all lose the lot, the Canarians will be ok as they own everything but the Brits and Irish won't have anything as we mostly all rent from Canarians.
They have been very clever unlike the UK, they don't sell, they rent out and make sure they keep hold of the countries assets. If it goes pop now, we lose everything but they still own the lot so in 2, 3 or how many years it takes to recover they will get all the money again.

I used to work somewhere where Scunthorpe and canal were filtered by the firewall. Maybe it’s a similar thing with Cummings.

They have just released a list of people who will get EMERGENCY payments (now we are about to start working again), (these are the 1st in the queue, more to come). It's a dam joke. At least in the UK you got your payments. It's not even a long list for a country.

While also marvelling at the stupidity of the entire cabinet being stupid enough to be taken in by it.

These fuck wits have got to get us through Brexit.

I think those line up with the time line of the second visit don't they? Turns out his mum had a birthday on the first visit and his wife had a birthday on the second. All a coincidence though I'm sure.

Laura K looks really shit off the back of those tweets.

I agree with the conveniently similar tweets of Gove, Sunak, Hancock and pals. He just loves his family unlike everyone else staying home, and it's wrong to politicise this case of a political advisor to the prime minister going against government advice during an issue that dominates politics
Absolutely nothing political to see here
