Looking at the stuff going around on Twitter it sounds like the press conference could well be Cummings playing the victim using his sons medical condition (autism apparently) as an excuse. Seriously hope this isn’t true. Bigger scum bag than I ever took him for if he uses a medical condition his son has to attempt to blag his way out of this.
Surely trying to push it onto a childs illness is a step too far even for Cummings and the Conservatives.

If his son has autism then surely he would be better off in familiar surroundings, ie: the family members local to Cummings assisting with childcare in Cummings London residence if Cummings and Wakefield both become so ill they were unable to care for the children. Travelling hundreds of miles to unfamiliar surroundings is the opposite of what you'd do with an autistic child isn't it?

Also if this were true why no mention of it in the multiple accounts Wakefield has given?

'The government wanted lock down to end. The unions and sections of the public, parliament and the media were fighting it.

Last night in one fell swoop that stopped. People are screaming they will do as they please now.

There is no Focus on it’s all too dangerous.

For a government who was struggling to end lock down, in one fell swoop they have achieved it, last night Boris spoke about secondaries opening moving to phase 2. Non essential retail opening. Not one journalist gave a shit. They all asked if the rules were changing and could we all now do as we please. Not one asked a question about it. Not one.'

FP on here has been saying this all along.

Even so it’s not like there’s no one with an autistic child coping with Covid 19 while observing lockdown rules. One of my wife’s best friends is a single mother, bipolar and has a child with autism. She had a manic episode last week and has now hit the depression. She’s done some crazy shit in the past while in the manic phase yet somehow she’s still managed to keep to the lockdown and look after an autistic child. It’s no excuse and if he really is going to go down this route I expect it’s just going to exacerbate things with parents with autistic children observing the lockdown with Covid leading the charge. I seriously hope he isn’t going this route.

If they're trying to make this go away this tactic won't work.
Tomorrow's media and social media will be full of stories of people who've toughed it out like the lady you've described.

What do the hope to achieve with Cummungs makingca statement. What excuse that they haven't tried before will justify what he did?

Stupid move

Fingers crossed you get it sorted. I think we all need a good holiday once this is over.
Problem is, how long until you can have a good holiday? Can't help but feel even when we're allowed to travel, the whole experience could be pretty joyless for a bit.

Some talk online that by holding this press conference in the Rose Garden they are yet again breaking the rules. Funny if true given the circumstances.

Durham police have backtracked significantly on their original statement ahead of this wonderful press conference

What he did was outrageous and I feel so sorry for those people that followed the official advice against their emotional best interests

Is it worse than what Stephen Kinnock did out of interest?

They haven't backtracked at all. They confirmed that they spoke directly to his father, after we were all told repeatedly that "the police did not speak to me or my family at any time"

Also interesting that they confirmed his wife was there, at the same time she was publishing articles about "London Lockdown".
