To be fair, AZ are more than reliable enough to take on the job of producing it but I don't agree with rushing it before it's even been approved.

And the Oxford University Virology dept is one of the best in the world. The issue is it is still very much at testing as it was weeks ago when it was first mentioned.

If the 2nd round of testing is promising then maybe but they will still need to test further. Unless they are doing away with the 3rd part the next step would be to let other research departments around the world conduct controlled testing to see if they get the same results.

Because if it's not passed or needs to be altered it's a big waste of money, raw materials and brainpower.

Depends how many you have to do it with. Opening up the economy fully six months earlier will be worth trillions, as long as you don’t waste much before you hit a vaccine you’re up. Of course if there is no vaccine you throw billions away for nothing. Or if it goes away anyway.

I see what you're saying, I just think that thrown in with the other expensive punts the government has gone on it makes sense to accelerate the testing so we get an answer quicker, rather than mass produce it and have it not pass.

It wouldn't take years to get enough test data to be satisfied that it works and is safe. Would you be happy taking an untested medicine? Of course not.

Yes it is a problem though! So fine the testing all works and it’s approved! Then we’ll have to wait weeks/months for it to be scaled up and available to use.....thankfully the government are making it so that once it hopefully gets approved it will be straight away given to those that most need it

This is only at stage 1 but with its self amplifying synthetic strands if it works it could be the game changer.

I think there’s two things here. Doms right that starting manufacturing ahead of time is probably a good idea *if that vaccine is showing promise*. Others are right that we have to be careful to pick a winner because of the cost. I’m not sure any of us aside maybe BSB know enough to know if this vaccine shows the right amount of promise in comparison to the 150 others.
