They're getting absolutely desperate to deflect blame. Anyone who has been paying the slightest attention to the figures knew there were issues with accuracy, its not something that's been hidden. Its the reason most people are looking at excess deaths as the most accurate figure.

Forget who said they were getting masks from Amazon but, just a word of warning...

First it was soap at the height of the frenzy, and now after waiting two and a half months for disposable gloves to be in stock...

Concerning really if we're all compelled *despite* scientific advice.

I do get that it's pretty catastrophic if we all end up out of work as a result of this, but I also don't see why you wouldn't keep social distancing measures in place throughout the winter anyway. If numbers are still low at that stage then happy days, might be able to relax a little.

But why on earth risk us all going into meltdown / lockdown again? Surely that'd be worse for the economy than mitigation and a slowing?

Yeah this is part of what I refer to, they're now claiming the data isn't reliable so stopping its publication. I daresay the data is showing anything that would convince the public it is safe to go back to normal.

The vague plans for wholescale reopening schools should come with the admission that any kind of distancing will be near impossible to maintain. I still don't really have any idea of what I'm returning to in September.

I was talking to a mate about this the other day, he’s a bit of a Dom in that he thinks Boris can do no wrong only he should be old enough to know better. I was saying that there’s been no real government planning for the reopening of schools, no planning on how to reduce class sizes etc. He said what do I expect the government to do so I reeled of using public spaces such as libraries, using local facilities such as church halls for extra classroom space, fast tracking student teachers through to increase the numbers of available teachers to increase the numbers of available classes, asking teachers to delay retirement, asking teachers newly retired to return for the same reason, to start a program now of building temporary classrooms to go on playgrounds and playing fields pointing out that we built nightingale hospitals in weeks why can’t we do this for schools for September. The main point I was making was that these decisions needed making now or in reality weeks ago but the government are impotent in forward planning. He agreed to some extent saying that those were all good ideas, until I pointed out most were Kier Starmers ideas anyway.

Now we have Boris telling everyone things will be back to normal by Christmas. How? There’s no plan to achieve this it’s just a detachment from reality. Typical of this government, just carry on in the hope that an answer is going to fall in their laps.

Not sure what your school are doing but our
is doing the following:

Kids in Year group bubbles and in a specific zone within the school so they only ever go in 8-10 classroom apart from PE which is only outside. They come to school in PE kit the days they have it. Drama, Music, DT are classroom theory only - no practical.

Teachers are assigned to Key Stage silos (KS3 or KS4/5) so you can teach multi-year but not across key stages to reduce contamination. They have planned for no social distancing between kids (as it’s impossible to suggest they can) but adults have to do so with children and with each other. Staggered breaks and lunches in different zones so no groups interact with cleaning time between.

We have quite a strong union presence within school so they have been involved in these plans to keep staff as safe as possible. We have a couple of teachers that are still very at risk so they are staying at home and teaching KS5 only remotely.

Johnsons suggestion we will back to normality is just nonsense but entirely predictable. The first 2/3 weeks back at school will be key. If the infection rate is not under control once we have these large scale gatherings inside then I fully expect schools to close and be in another lockdown by Oct/Nov that may last into Feb.

I could confidently predict that the City will win every game next season, it doesn’t make the confidence any less misplaced. There will be no distancing possible in schools and as children still transmit the virus then you may as well remove all the restrictions for adults too. But he isn’t doing that, why not?

SMT approach is to leak stuff to HoDs to then share with us and canvass opinion before deciding what to do. I have also had nothing through about going up the main scale so it seems like I’ve burned myself out this year for no rise. If it continues as is next year I’ll look more closely at leaving the profession and going back into science.

Technically almost no-one has died of AIDS. Usually end up dying of pneumonia.

Same with cancer - what finishes most off is an infection the body is too weak to fight.

Even if it doesn't kill them Covid could be the difference between someone dying and someone not. Why I'm fearful of big numbers in winter - if people have damaged lungs from Covid it could make a massive difference in being able to fight off cold, flu or pneumonia

Where have we seen that shit approach before...

Also if you are on mainscale (M1-6) you should be moved up automatically. It’s only when you get to M6 and want to go through threshold or move up UPS that you have to ‘apply’ to move up. If you're being told otherwise it’s not true, irrespective of performance management.
