In case anyone missed it the PM was so badly spitroasted at PMQs he tried to accused the former DPP of sporting the IRA by proxy.

What is going on with testing?
People being asked to travel huge distances again .
Due to shortage ?
350 k tests per day ,
Between 1-1.5k case's per day .
Transferring capacity from one area to another.
People Only tend to have a test if symptomatic.

I got an email yesterday asking me to take a random test for research purposes. Could go to a test centre, but opted for a home kit.
I presume that this is being rolled out to a lot of people.

2 points on testing from my POV:

1. Its blindingly obvious to me that we should be focusing on the random testing of healthy people with no symptoms (like Mark above) as various research shows up to 70% of cases exhibit no symptoms.

2. Home testing is fundamentally flawed: Having recently had a test performed on me by a nurse prior to an outpatient procedure, its clear to me that the vast majority of folks testing at home will not insert the swab far enough in the throat (made me gag twice) & far enough up the nose (mildly painful, eye watering & very unpleasant)

I'd put good money on the fact that a large portion of the home tests are producing false negative results because of this.

My wife was chosen for this research test. Happily, it was negative, but not a fun thing to do.

Yet another case of say you're doing something, seeing it's unpopular so row back on it. There is fuck all leadership.

While I'm not saying any decision shouldn't be questioned and set in stone at least have the balls to stick by a decision that's right even if it's unpopular. They don't give a fuck about what is the correct choice, just what is popular.

All supported by people who think it’s sport and their team is winning.

This segment of most recent data from Scotland might be interesting as schools have been back roughly 3 weeks.
2020, there were 37 people aged 2-17 years in Scotland who tested positive for COVID-19, of 29,447 who were tested. By age group, positive cases represented 1 in 1,000 (0.1%) of children aged 2-4 years tested for COVID-19, 1 in 2,500 (0.04%) of those aged 5-11 years who were tested, and 3 in 1,000 (0.3%) of those

Cases high almost everywhere. Yet deaths lower than the first peak.

Surely there's enough evidence to make a proper decision one way or another now

Yeah, the test is as much when older people come out more, and also cooler weather with other diseases floating around. If come late October / November things are looking promising, then happy days, but really everything is somewhat distorted atm

I had a letter to this effect the other week through Ipsos Mori. Did a home test and sent it off by courier on Sunday morning. Haven’t had any result yet - not sure how long it takes to turn around.

It’s not ideal at all - but does give you a baseline of data.
You can then potentially model from it if you needed to.
For balance I think it’s harsh on kids, but you can tell them it’s not judgemental - just trying to get a current position to see where there gaps are etc.

Some schools will sell it as a big deal, putting unnecessary pressure and stress on kids, which is totally the wrong approach IMO.

Cases aren't high almost everywhere, they're nowhere near the peak. The deaths are reduced as they've applied that 28 day rule, ONS death figures are nearly twice those published by DHSC. The country is being gaslit.
