it should be each families own choice.
I agree with that, as long as afterwards they give it a bit of time before heading out to shops, pubs etc.

Bit harsh if somebody else's choice impacts on somebody who has decided not to see anybody over Christmas, after all.

Exactly, they know a percentage of people will ignore certain rules hence them giving leeway on Christmas. I just hope there’s very clear messaging around reducing risk and asking people to display some common sense. Already few mates and I have decided it’s not worth the risk to see elderly relatives over Christmas, I’d imagine plenty will do the same, however, it should be each families own choice. The key to keeping better control of virus is probably what happens with uni students though.

There’s no point getting wound up with this ‘scotch egg’ argument, most boozers won’t agressively enforce the rules, nor will the police. It will put certain people off going (remember it’s in conjunction with no households mixing in pubs anyway) and that might be enough for government/scientists

The government has seen fit to expose me to blatant COVID risks for 4 months so I will see who I want at Christmas provided they’re OK with it.

Warwick are doing it also, asymptomatic tests open to staff and students throughout the next week and then students are to book a departure time to go home

Think it's the standard university procedure.
Not available at all universities is my understanding.

Having been around the city centre the last few days looks like a large number of students have left already anyway.

Also not sure the ones who are jumping on a flight home are going to risk getting a test and missing their flight home I it comes through positive.

Depends what you're going to, I guess. Makes it a bit close to home if you risk finishing off your Gran over Christmas.

Boris is an absolute shambles, so many people from his own party turning on him
In this instance, they appear to be the nutters however, not him. I found myself agreeing with Michael Gove(!) on the radio this morning, when he pointed out Wales lifted things quickly after their two week restriction, and are now having to shut down again more and more as a result.

Put some more support into the hardest hit areas, collaborate more with local authorities, and Johnson would even get Labour and Liberal support...

They’ll jettison him soon as Cov-ID is done.. and we’ll get someone even worse.
Can see it coming can't you. Crash out the EU with no deal in the New Year and get to Easter when hopefully we're well into the vaccination program and have things returning to normal and they'll sack him off.

He can go back to the easy life of being a buffoon on TV and writing his Telegraph column while claiming he was the one who 'got Brexit done' and saved us from covid.

Meanwhile, the electorate will celebrate what a refreshing change the next heartless bastard with zero empathy and a desire to grind us into the ground is, giving him a majority of 250 in the next parliament, because you can never trust a lawyer.

Tbh Corbyn was useless and a complete waste of time, even I would have got more votes

Keir can't even get the backing of Some deluded Corbynites so can't see how he will win in the next election

Corbyn got the major call of the day wrong. In fact I would predict that in some wierd parallel universe where he backed Brexit and Boris wanted to cancel it, you’d have voted for him.

Us ‘deluded Corbynites’ just want to vote for someone that believes in something - even if you don’t like that particular brand of politics, - if all I wanted was a leader that abstains and wants more of the same I’d just not bother voting.

He probably would have backed brexit but was pressured by people around him to say otherwise who thought they 'knew' better
