Decent half, became more subdued as half went on. One think we lack without Hamer is energy.

Very comfortable for us that first half. We need to crank up a little and finish it off. Bit of Saka and Wright should be fun at some point in the second half.

Decent half that. The Nuneaton Hamer having a decent game.

New boys first live impressions:
- MvE: looks nervous
- Thomas: looks class
- Lati: looks decent
- Dasilva: still a little worried defensively, seems to let his man get behind. But like him in possession
- Simms: Hmm.

Stuck in the sticks. Second half is on the Talksport app at least...

BBC text commentary suggests we're on top, and they seem to like Milan White Van Man, fwiw.

I obviously can't see the game, so I'll be calling CWR later (regardless of the result) to express my displeasure at our performance, new signings, management, and owners etc.. :)

Van Ewijk needs to be stretching the game more, we had a breakaway at one point where he had lots of space to run into, Sheaf played it into the space but he was dawdling in midfield

You can see that he will come good. I think Robins has told him after Wednesday he needs to be slightly more cautious and not full guns blazing. Once that partnership with Thomas develops he will be fine.

That first 20 mins really settled my nerves, Sheaf ran the midfield, VE looks to be operating at about 75% of what he’s capable of, can’t wait to see him going at defenders when he’s fully fit.

Middlesbrough look poor though, really poor and light years from last seasons side, but we really need to get that second after the way the last 2 games went

Playing ok, liking how comfortable we’re looking on the ball, got a bit sloppy towards the end.

van Ewijk looks like he’s playing within himself a bit, not sure if he’s just not fit or still getting to grips with the role. Nice to have a RWB who will actually shoot though. Thomas and Latibeaudiere both been very solid but someone please tell Thomas the golden rule of never passing it between your own posts, keeps giving me heart palpitations. Da Silva needs to get a bit closer to his man, has let him in behind a few too many times. Simms not been great but also hasn’t been terrible. Eccles and Shead both playing well. Overall fairly happy.

Decent that. But these will surely improve. MVE looks a goal threat and the defence all good. Simms….. we’ll he’s not going to win most kilometres covered today is he 🤣

Sky saying how we’re dominating and Boro been poor. Atmosphere sounds quite tame.

We need to score again as I think we will tire and have limited options on the bench.

Decent half. Great to go in 1-0.

It looks like 2 very average teams playing each other other.

Sheaf has been class, Eccles has been good, love the look of Thomas, and Godden did well for his goal.

We are too far open though, Palmer and 2 up front just ends up being 3 up front and a decent team would rip us apart.

New guys - I'm shocked at how poor MVE I thought coming through in Holland he would be far more technically polished. Thomas is great, love how angry he is all the time. Lati and Dasilva are decent. Simms has looked better today, but he and Godden want to run the same channels. I think if he gets a goal, he will go on a run.

I'm still backing Simms to find form... But he is deffo gonna be a boo boy for some on here due to his look on pitch, bit languid looking but I think that is just posture.

Hope he bags one soon to nip it in the bud
For my sins, I went on the Sunderland forum to see what they thought of Simms, and the more reasonable amongst them pointed out that his body language and posture don't reflect well on him or his ability - suspect the comparions to Tyler Walker being lazy will be thrown out sooner rather than later.
