I hope that Gus and Vik going allow others to flourish - Godden can actually be a goalgetter rather than just a distraction, and Eccles and Sheaf may just have a bit more freedom to express themselves. Perhaps the sum can be greater than the parts.

That first 20 mins really settled my nerves, Sheaf ran the midfield, VE looks to be operating at about 75% of what he’s capable of, can’t wait to see him going at defenders when he’s fully fit.

Middlesbrough look poor though, really poor and light years from last seasons side, but we really need to get that second after the way the last 2 games went

Need a second goal. Think Boro are there for the taking. Players look tired and fitness levels not up to par. MVE should have scored. Maybe Simms out and Haji in. Would like to see Saka as well. Too much space between midfield and attack and need someone to connect the two.

Thomas looks the best of all signings so far. Once Allen and COH return our midfield will be that much better.

For my sins, I went on the Sunderland forum to see what they thought of Simms, and the more reasonable amongst them pointed out that his body language and posture don't reflect well on him or his ability - suspect the comparions to Tyler Walker being lazy will be thrown out sooner rather than later.

Take confidence in Thomas and Latibeaudiere stepping forward and taking the ball. Not like recent CB’s who have retreated to following the man and letting them play. Thomas by far and away better than McNally.

It's early days for him, I'm not sure you can make that assessment straight away tbf

Its been comfortable but can tell we are just missing that creative spark in the middle with Hamer leaving. There isn't anyone who is playing that ball behind defenders for our strikers or that diagonal pass to wingbacks. Hopefully we manage to find that deep lying playmaker we need for this team.
