Well earlier in the season the suggestion was that we should get him out the team as he and Doyle were too similar and Doyle the better option.
By who?

I recall he had a couple of poorish games and it was said we maybe should have dropped him, but besides that I think he has earned quite a fair share of praise.

I think maybe unsung hero than underrated. It's taken till the last couple of games for people to really see what he is doing. Earlier in the season there were calls for him to be dropped for Stevenson to make us more creative. Now he's one of the first names on the team sheet - along with basically the rest of the first XI which is brilliant.
First name on the teamsheet - Rod.

Second - Jones

Third - Kelly.

I'd say the only players without a spot nailed down at the moment are Biamou and DKE.

Biamou will become 1st team name more regularly as we go into late November December time.

He's starting to win his headers like a target man and making things stick up top. Growing in confidence and strength, just needs that 1st goal to settle him and kickstart the goals in his game.

I fancy McNulty to profit from his work very soon

Not fussed about doing all the ratings but my motm was Liam Kelly , very solid player .

Kelly is threading some great balls through at times and Doyle put a great pass thro to DKE but he miscontrolled it, the whole team is really looking the part now just need McNulty, Beavon and Biamou to start scoring then the season ahead looks great, earlier we were relying on Jones as our only threat but the Duck has come in and taken his chance or chances lol but without Jones we would struggle, lets just enjoy the moment and hope that this roll we are on keeps gathering momentum.
Performance yesterday wasn't the best bar the opening 20 minutes but we won and looked reasonably comfortable, its great we are picking up these wins and hopefully once everything clicks its gonna be fantastic, not good for the nerves with 1-0 wins but if every game was to be like that until the end of season I think we would all be happy to take that

I said something along those lines, based on Kelly performances at the time and possibly when Andreu was available IIRC. Kelly has upped him game a lot since then and both he and Doyle seem a little bit more adventuous going forwards. Anyway I think they have been working very well together in the last few games.

Burge 6 - did not look as assured this week as in previous weeks, particularly in the first half. Another clean sheet though.

Grimmer 6 - a few nice forays forward, but was also exposed down his flank a few times in the second half.

Willis 7 - another solid performance.

McDonald 8 - seriously how good is this bloke?

Stokes 7 - actually thought today was one of his better games this season. The less said about his "effort" on goal, though, the better.

Kelly 8 - gets through a mountain of work in the middle, but also picks a pass better than his midfield partner. Like McDonald, I wonder if we'd still be in League One if we had him last season.

Doyle 6 - I didn't think he was all that great today. Gave the ball away too much for my liking, especially when Crewe were starting to take control of the game in the second half.

Jones 7 - made life hell for Crewe's full backs, especially Bakayoko, in the first 15-20 minutes. Reasonable outside of that period.

Nazon 7 - took his goal well and generally bustled about for the most part. Sometimes looks so good on the ball, but I do agree with others that he often takes the wrong option (or no option at all). Again though I'm happy to cop that so long as he keeps scoring goals.

Biamou 6.5 - just a game today. Three games in seven days clearly caught up with him because he was running on the spot through the second half.

Beavon 7 - his introduction pretty much snuffed Crewe's challenge out. Did what he always does - worked his socks off, showed some neat touches and interplay, didn't score )

Corner Flag 4 - other than keeping the ball in play for Jones, what else did the flag do, really? Just stood there all game in the same spot, unmoved. Lazy, lazy stuff.
Well if it's good enough for Yakubu

Just watching Liverpool v Newcastle on SKY and I must say Willis and Concrete would not look out of place in the Newcastle side

Some people seem to forget were almost a complete NEW team and it takes time for the players to gel .

Last would be Burge.
Considering we only have 2 goalkeepers who are considered 'ready' and he's played well since he's returned I highly doubt that would be the case. All the team are playing well at the minute so I don't see why you have to pick out a player for unjustified criticism

I know! Just messing-if it isn't broke don't fix it. Interestingly, I was having a conversation with someone at half time yesterday who was excited that Haynes was nearly fit and will be back in the team soon. Was also on about Willis and how he doesn't rate him.
Now I'm no Willis fan but you can't argue about the defence being solid at the minute and goals conceded. When I pointed out the obvious that Stokes is also part of that defence he said he would have Haynes straight back in anyway! :emoji_thinking: Like I said, if it isn't broke.......
