It is only one game but there are also signs that cause concern. Yesterday just seemed to be a continuation of the poor form of the second half of last season down to letting in a winner so late in the game. I still have concerns about the defence and I can't see us being able to rely on scoring more than the opposition as we did in the first half of last season.

Also some warning signs there with the transfers. There's a lot of people saying they need time to gel etc but that didn't seem to be a problem for Bradford. Also worry about the formation, don't think we've got the players to pull it off. But has SP made his signings on the basis that will be the formation for the season, will those players be the right signings if we have to go back to 442?

Not sure about playing Allsop over Burge, if Burge doesn't get games he can leave so given Allsop is on loan we could end up with no keeper. Unless Allsop is miles better when not develop our own player?

Clearly too early in the season to start to panic but I'm hoping to see improvement quickly.

just got back home from Bradford.

660 mile round trip, plus hotel for 2 nights. A lot of money spent. And tbh, I'm not that disappointed at all.

I was at 4.50 PM yesterday, but a sleep, and a long drive home helped mull things over and improve my mood about yesterday's game.

We always looked dangerous from set pieces yesterday, something we haven't had for years.
Reda Johnson getting 2 goals. Bit annoyed about the penalty he gave away, but hopefully that's 1 over and done with, never again.
Fleck looked quality when he came on, so hopefully can build on this.
Was very impressed with Willis, solid at the back against older, experienced opposition.
Another 3 or 4 games, and I think we will click.

When 5 or 6 games have passed, that is about the time when we should be disappointed or not :)

Only saw the highlights but Pugh looks like he can deliver quality crosses from set pieces and open play, O'Brien and Swanson should be tidy little ball players for us. Reda looks like he can become a favourite.

I think we need to get some pace and strength up front. How did Mcquoid, Miller and Tudgay look?

Sorry, Pugh did do well yes.

O'Brien and Swanson didn't do much IMO. I was hoping for some exciting wing play, but that never really happened from what I recall.

McQuoid: IMO, was shite. Maybe a few games to get up to speed, but not looking promising yesterday.
Tudgay: Did okay, but like McQuoid, might need time.
Miller: I think come on towards the end, so didn't have much time to do much IIRC.

TBH, I was on the beers from 10am, so some bits are missing :)

Fleck's "dive" was a penalty from where I was sat. (upper tier) would like to see it again.

For what it is worth I will chuck my opinion in.

I thought that the game was very up and down for both sides. I couldn't quite work out if it was a battle of 2 good teams, or 2 poor teams (I was leaning more towards the poor option).

There was no movement what so ever. We were very slow as well. Simply not good enough to do well in this league. Now do you blame that on the team being poor or the fact they still need time to gel. I sincerely hope it is the later.

Now individuals:

Allsop - awful game. The saves he made were average. He doesn't talk to his defence at all (Johnson was shouting at him a lot), which led to several mistakes including the stupid corner which led to the stupid penalty. Would give Burge a go on Wednesday. 4
Wilson - by far the best defender on the day. Put in some brilliant tackles. 7
Webster - once a liability always a liability 5
Johnson - good defending, however he is slow as shit. Reminds me of the edge and konjic in that the fans will love him but he isn't amazing (albeit better than the edge!). He was caught out of position a few times and with only 3 at the back that is unacceptable. 2 goals for a debut defender is good going though! 8 (purely on the goals)
Clarke - I don't think he was good or awful. 5
O'brien - looks a good signing although was definitely tired after the 70 mark. 7
Thomas - awful 4
Swanson - had good moments of play, wasn't amazing 6
pugh - good 1st game, looks impressive 7
Tudgay - Didn't do much at all. 5
McQuid - Didn't set the world alight. Moved a lot more than tudgay though. 6

Subs:
Fleck - changed the midfield completely. Really wish he would stay fully fit for 90! 7
Miller - looks a quick little player, would start him with tudgay on Wednesday. 6
