What would be the alternative and if they’re in men’s prisons what’s the madnessSelf identity. Madness.
Self identity. Madness.
Same as this sort of horse shit. It is just everywhere now and you can see lots of people falling for it:Suppose this should go here rather than the things that annoy me but it’s not really politics specific.
So called patriots who don’t have the first clue about the history of this country and so end up shitting on our traditions.
For those who aren’t aware the tree is a gift from Norway and decorated in traditional Norwegian style since it started in 1942. It’s a nice nod to WW2 allies and these sad pricks are trying to culture war it up.
Look at the state of the replies.
That’s about 90% of them.
Yep what who stole?Tbf the study is into people that have had a sex change, not those that self-identify.

It’s the principle of being considered a ”woman” just because you say so. You now have kids self identifying as cats and being pandered to at school. So treated as a cat and a bamboos eaterWhat would be the alternative and if they’re in men’s prisons what’s the madness
The madness is that someone can say that they are now a woman and make use of woman only spaces. What would be the alternative and if they’re in men’s prisons what’s the madness
I think the identifying as a cat is bananas but then most Christians would have said that about gender as recently as 10 or so years ago and many many still would. I think they’re wrongIt’s the principle of being considered a ”woman” just because you say so. You now have kids self identifying as cats and being pandered to at school. From that Fair Play for Women site
”It is well known that most sexual and violent crime is overwhelmingly committed by men and that’s why women and girls sometimes need their own safe space away from men. Not because all men pose a danger but because saying no to all men is a simple and effective way to keep women and girls safe.”
@skybluetony176 that is what I was trying to imply in the post you took such objection to. It’s about potential failure of a duty of care.
YepPutting aside the trans thing for a minute it really raises some interesting questions about justice policy. Men commit the vast majority of sexual and violent crimes. If we did find out that chopping your dick off and pumping you full of oestrogen makes you have the criminal profile of a woman (so not likely to be violent offender), should that be a justifiable penalty? Similarly if we found it was all gender socialisation and not testosterone what did it, should we make parents raise boys differently?
I think the trans question distracts from the real problem in women’s lives: men. And frankly once you start asking questions about that it gets quite uncomfortable in terms of the data. Not all men, but pretty much only men.

You could argue slippery slope and why not allow people to identify as cats and dogs and tables. I would say cause you’re not but then who am I to say if you open the floodgates
I have no problem whatsoever with finding a solution so trans gender females can’t use women toilets and I’m certain that some men are using this as an opportunity.
I also felt sorry, not so much now, but initially for j k Rowling who wasn’t saying no to sex changes but that there needs to be a safe space and she was deplatformed
We need an answer that’s creative and non discriminatory and I think if we found that we’d find that if any men are taking advantage they’d stop and try another tactic
Interesting in prison as I say it’s a live and let live and assigned sex at birth is where they are houses trans female or not. So there’s no special treatment so where’s the harm or danger?
Males in female sports seems an easy one too. Levels of male hormones seems reasonable. People will be affected but at least it’s fair and manageable
Trouble is Pete, testosterone reduces but muscle mass and height / reach acquired as a “man” doesn’t so much. Apologies for effectively repeating shmmeee (but in so many less words for a changeI think the identifying as a cat is bananas but then most Christians would have said that about gender as recently as 10 or so years ago and many many still would. I think saying the concept of having a gender is sexist is going quite a bit too far. It is a statement of fact. Should we change science because it’s inconvenient? It may seem reasonable Pete but sporting advantage goes well beyond current testosterone level. Hip angles, arm span, fast twitch muscle fibre. Male puberty bestows many athletic advantages that can’t be undone.
The whole idea of having a gender is sexist. The idea if I like flowers and dresses I’m a girl and sports and cars I’m a boy belongs on the 1950s. What matters is the sexed body in some circumstances. Sports and crime are two areas there are clear category differences in male and female behaviour and outcomes even if we don’t fully know why. By all means look at sports that have no need for sex segregation, but where we keep men and women separate for good reason I see no reason to change that.

Get far more cracking down on tax evasion and reducing tax avoidanceA clamp down on benefit fraud.
The government will get back well over half of anything they give me in tax of one form or another.
Disagree. When a lot of old people die, there properties need quite a lot spending in them to bring them up to a modern standard. Developers / landlords and the like seem keener to do that than private buyers for owner occupation.
Im not sure you could or even should stop people selling to the highest bidder. I think executors have a responsibility to maximise the value of the estate for the beneficiaries (and IHT purposes).
Then you must be sick of the rich and privileged who make an awful lot of noise and get a lot of the things they want to the detriment of the vast majority of the population.Far to early to decide yet. That’s because they can’t afford the exorbitant prices for materials and trades people to do the work. Even though they are millionaires according to shmmeee. To be honest, there are a lot of houses that have not been maintained sufficiently by elderly people in their later years which are causing problems now. And a lot of those that end up on the rental market stay in that condition or worse.
There is action that can be taken if landlords don’t do repairs or repairs aren’t to a satisfactory standard.Disagree.
Developers and landlords do as little as possible and as cheap as possible. They do a bit of work when buying the property and then very little afterwards. For example a property I know that has been turned into an HMO had a broken waste pipe with poo coming out of it. It took FOUR MONTHS for that to be fixed - how many people would leave that in their own property? It currently has a water waste pipe with a huge chunk missing and water just comes out of it onto the garden. Yet apparently the landlord looked at it and said they couldn't see an issue!
The reason some private houses don't get done up is because the mortgage costs so much it leaves little left for repairs which were already required when they bought the house, especially with living costs and wage stagnation. If you're living there why on earth wouldn't you want it to be in a fit state? Meanwhile a landlord will just whack it on the rent.
To be honest, there are a lot of houses that have not been maintained sufficiently by elderly people in their later years which are causing problems now. And a lot of those that end up on the rental market stay in that condition or worse.
Think it's a case of what type of property you want and where you want to rent. I hadn't rented for years but didn't really have much chance post divorce, it was unbelievable how much had changed in less than 15 years. Where you used to be able to turn up at an estate agents and get shown round multiple properties until you found one you like now its a mad scramble for anything that comes on the market.Im surprised your neighbour can’t find anywhere else to rent. According to shmmeee, a huge proportion of property is owned by landlords of one sort or another.
In terms of your local development not having started yet, there have been some issues in the interim haven’t there? Material prices have been very high, perhaps the developer doesn’t think there will be a profit in building and selling yet.
What data are you using to conclude that demand for housing is continuing to increase? New business set ups? Queues outside estate agents? Properties selling very quickly?
Easier to just not give a shit Malc, voting does not make a difference.Far to early to decide yet. I will take a view on the manifestos and who is more likely to keep to what they say. Or at least who is saying stuff which will benefit me and others similar.

That sounds like my neighbour. I was on the verge of getting a plumber in to investigate where the smell was coming from when my neighbour came round to apologise with the same old story that they were struggling to get the landlord to do anything about it.For example a property I know that has been turned into an HMO had a broken waste pipe with poo coming out of it. I have a suspicion that taking your landlord to court every time you need something doing is easier said than done and not the route to a harmonious home life. The last place I rented the landlord refused to return the deposit despite there being zero damage, not to mention the fact there had been no cooking facilities for the last 6 months I was there as he couldn't be arsed to fix the kitchen. There is action that can be taken if landlords don’t do repairs or repairs aren’t to a satisfactory standard.

What they don’t do is tell me how I must think and what I am not allowed to say. If I see someone who identifies as a woman, is dressed as a woman but with their knob hanging out and call them a man, they will claim I have caused them extreme psychological distress by misgendering them. It’s bollocks, and if they have got them then I dont think it that unreasonable for a sane person to think of them as male. Starmer would obviously accept that they are a woman. Then you must be sick of the rich and privileged who make an awful lot of noise and get a lot of the things they want to the detriment of the vast majority of the population.
i think I have posted this loads of times, but about 3 weeks ago the person leading the programme said it was, in reality, a two term plan. So nearly spot on, I won’t be expecting the new homes promised by Labour at all.Think it's a case of what type of property you want and where you want to rent. I hadn't rented for years but didn't really have much chance post divorce, it was unbelievable how much had changed in less than 15 years. Sure if you want to live in a bedsit or HMO as they now seem to be called or a shit flat you've got plenty of options. At the other end if you want a luxury apartment there's loads of those. If you just want a regular half decent flat or house in a decent area it's a nightmare finding somewhere.
In terms of new development I moved back here 9 years ago and at that point the development had been 'in progress' for several years, how long do you think is reasonable for these things to take? Presumably on this basis you won't be expecting the new homes promised by Labour until at least 2035?
You don't need demand for housing to continue to increase for us to be massively short of housing. In fact the demand could significantly decrease and we'd still need a large number of new houses built.
I think it’s the letting agent I would be going after. They have a reputation to try to keep, unlike landlords who are pretty anonymous. could really do with being able to ask for landlords references given by previous tenants. That sounds like my neighbour. I was on the verge of getting a plumber in to investigate where the smell was coming from when my neighbour came round to apologise with the same old story that they were struggling to get the landlord to do anything about it.

There's a deposit protection scheme in place to make it 'easy' to deal with these sort of situations. It took months and a shedload of paperwork to get my deposit back and that's a case where I had stacks of photos etc as evidence and the landlord didn't dispute anything. God knows how complicated it would be if it was actually disputed.
Landlords know they have the upper hand and you're not going to do anything to rock the boat unless it's a last resort.
Think you've got a fundamental problem where demand is far in excess of supply so landlords / agents know they have the upper hand.I think it’s the letting agent I would be going after. They have a reputation to try to keep, unlike landlords who are pretty anonymous. could really do with being able to ask for landlords references given by previous tenants.
