Sky Blue Medical Group.

Thinking about it we've long moved from the idea of a doctors surgery having one or two doctors and always seeing the same person.

Given that commutes have also increased why do we still have a system that ties you to one surgery? Why can't I just have an appointment at whatever surgery is nearest where I work?

No petrol and diesel cars to be sold after 2030. I hope there's a plan to put some infrastructure in to support all these electric cars in carparks as I'm not hopeful!

Because every time we try and build a unified IT system that could share data people like Malc complain it costs too much.

I think part of the reason why NPfIT failed is because MPs are too interested in this nice future state rather than the costs and complexity of discovering the existing one. They want houses without foundations or services.

It’s unfair to keep blaming malc
No one likes spending money unnecessarily
There are huge efficiencies with having a robust it system that talks to various parts of the system
Maybe musk will do it for us

We need to beef up GDS and actually build state capacity for these things. Government are terrible customers but having terrible engineers listen to terrible customers just doubles the problem.

I am being unfair and I hope Malc knows it’s only banter.

Just reading the CSE inquiry and IT failures and out of date systems are an issue there too. And I know it’s a problem in education as well.

The Tories did try to introduce a different system where you could have a home and “work“ registration. Can’t remember precise details now or why it, presumably, didn’t work.

Tax us a bit less and let us go private from time to time. Might actually save the country some money. Having said that, GPs get paid on a capitation not consultation basis. Maybe that should also be looked at.

Dentists who offer NHS send you off to another practice and offer the cosmetic side of the operation or the Smile aspect of the treatment for a thousand pounds, alternatively a partial plate and still a frontal bridge that still looks like a row of condemned house's!

That'll be the Elon effect I think, nothing specific just a trail of potential corruption and shenanigans!

It been mooted a few times I think. Blair had some plan for rolling out medical centres which would have basically everything under A&E level under one roof but nothing ever really happened, well other than letting GPs massively cut their hours and get paid the same. But its all down to the fundamental issue of capacity isn't it. Anyone who has ever been to a walk in centre will tell you they aren't the answer as nobody is going to sit and wait for hours every time they need to see someone.

How much tax do you think I should be refunded for my doctors appointments? At the moment I have a minimum of 2 a month.

Quick look on a private GP comparison site shows the nearest one is in Leamington, compared to my surgery which is at the end of my road. Only opens office hours, but not for full days, and not at all on Thursdays. A face to face appointment is £140, but you can have 15 minutes on the phone for £66.

Only really seems suitable if you're either a) very rich, or b) only have to go once or twice a year.

And this really is the issue with private healthcare in a nutshell isn't it. They're only really interested in cherry picking off the nice and easy profitable job.

Exactly this. My GF has a chronic illness that wouldn’t be covered under insurance as it’s pre existing. She’s basically be destitute without the NHS.

The cover is me and the kids. My daughters hydrocephalus also isn’t covered as it existed before I took out the policy. But I think things like flying her back for treatment and my hotels are partly covered should we have another emergency and that was the main reason I took it up.

Im going to generously assume you’re not laughing at my daughters medical needs, and just don’t understand that private medical insurance is taxed and the organisations can’t claim it back unlike private schools.

It's a benefit in kind, iirc, so if all or some of the cost is provided by your employer you'll pay tax on it.
