I had done, and tbh that had been one of my assumptions. As far as I know, you can still be found to have been libellous even if your statement was essentially true. Surely actually making an admission, even under duress, that the claimed libellous statement was false would enhance the chances of any law suit being successfull as reputational damage would already have happened. I’m not so sure there is much that could be said that could damage certain people’s reputations.

I mean it’s Twitter and grow up firstly, but the thrust of her comment was true.

Tate is Muslim:

Tate is currently on trial for running a grooming gang:

A Romanian court says the Andrew Tate case can't go to trial because of missteps by the prosecutors

An appeals court in Romania has ruled that the case against influencer Andrew Tate, accused of human trafficking, rape and sexual exploitation of women, cannot go to trial because of multiple legal and procedural irregularities on the part of the prosecutors
www.independent.co.uk

Admittedly not concluded yet, but the evidence from himself seems pretty conclusive and it’s a reasonable connection to make in a flippant tweet:

Andrew Tate: Chats in 'War Room' suggest dozens of women groomed - BBC News

Messages seen by the BBC appear to show how the influencer's "War Room" targeted possible victims.

Sorry about the source chaps

New fears Labour wants to scrap free prescriptions for over-60s in another blow

With elderly people already reeling from winter fuel payment cuts and pensions U-turns, it's feared more misery is on the way.
www.express.co.uk

There appears to be a consultation paper on gov.uk although I can’t see any start or end date.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/60e455b08fa8f50c7683861d/changes-to-giving-free-prescriptions-to-people-aged-60-and-over_easy-read.pdf

At least partly for balance, but also as an idea of potential consequence, there is this old article which shows the same idea occurred to the Tory bastards. If they didn’t do it, surely a Labour government wouldn’. (My Labour Party membership has already deluded me)

Scrapping free prescriptions for over-60s ‘could have devastating impact’

Health groups say move would leave many patients in England unable to afford medication, intensifying existing health inequalities

Think that PDF is from the Tory 2021 consultation but can’t confirm. Can’t find any reference anywhere but that Express story which links to this Telegraph story:

https://archive.ph/OIswe

Which just says some charity report has recommended it, nothing about government.

I think you’re OK for now.

Whose £22bn is that? This lots or the last lots.
Isn‘t the issue that Starmer is refusing to rule it out?

I think you are right about the PDF. Why aren’t these things removed when no longer current, or at least clearly dated so that idiots like me don’t make mistake what’s going on.

I have no axe to grind here but I guess it's only natural for this to shift in line with current retirement age, for instance some sports venues are shifting it in an ad-hoc fashion, there's pressure to remove it entirely in a places,do I like it,no tbh but Wembley was offering 60. ,+ concessions last year affair.
Quite benevolent and the standard I would prefer, but we are where we are.
Power to your elbow Malc.

Last one. The article is from before the last budget.

I think you’re right though. This story is about a question in the commons with this reply:

I'll be honest. It never even crossed my mind that you'd get free prescriptions before pension age. Is there any reason the two aren't the same?

You don't pay for prescriptions if you're unemployed so guess there's a fair case for anyone not at retirement age and in work to pay. Probably not the best time to have that discussion after the mess the winter fuel allowance has been.

What’s that phrase?

When you’re used to being the oppressor equality feels like oppression?

Governments have been buying pensioner votes since Brown was chancellor. Everything else has been cut to the bone. Eventually they’re having to come for some benefits that make no sense on the face of it and we’re acting like they’ve made Midsommar government policy.

Saw this. I’m not sure how well he’s controlling for WFH and just lockdown here. Some of these stats are in 2021.

Obviously something to it, just not sure the stats are as robust as he says.

It’s based on the last 6 months experience as I see it.

You will see it differently.

I am making a huge assumption here that you are significantly younger than I am. Having contributed by taxation to a collectivist approach, when such things are withdrawn as you approach, or even pass, eligibility you will probably feel pretty pissed off.

Fair point. It is American data though so the lockdowns were a bit less intense, and probably likely to be adhered to differently by age group.

I don't think this is surprising at all if it's saying what I think it's been happening since mid 70's, Thatcher did say there was no society, and by extension is it.

Yeah that’s true. And it’s definitely an issue. See the other thread about nightlife being dead. Or the incels who wonder why there’s no dating scene in their bedroom.

Is social media and home entertainment the worse thing to happen to humanity? Genuinely starting to think so.

Presumably WFH doesn’t help with feelings of isolation either.

used to have so much fun at work when I was younger, all those centuries ago. Majority of social life built around it.

I’m sure I read somewhere recently that “younger” generations would rather communicate by text or email than voice call using a telephone. Bizarre to me.

How difficult would it have been to have said “we have no intention to review the list etc”.

Of course, that would have given absolute clarity of purpose which they seem to want to avoid at all costs.

That Ming vase seems to be worrying them still.

It’s no wonder nightlife is dead, it’s so fucking expensive and will only get worse with the employers NI and minimum wage increase. Looking back, even Labour MPs dont understand the cumulative consequences of the government’s decisions as they “went wild” at the reduction in taxes on beer sold in pubs. I wonder what their local constituents have said to them about it.

Attempting to reverse the imbalance between supermarket and pub prices isn’t a bad idea. Unfortunately these things seldom happen in pure isolation. I don’t think they happened AT ALL at the CBS.

The smoking ban had a huge impact on the F&B sector, from which it will never recover unless the unthinkable happens. Which it won’t. And shouldn’t.

I suppose disincentives to socialising does protect the working persons wallet to an extent. But ultimately at what cost to society? if we never see or interact with other members of society, why are we going to give a flying fuck about them? Perhapa the end of collectivism is ngh!

PS has anyone noticed 1p off a pint of draught in their local?

People smugglers to see finances targeted by UK

The planned measures will target the finances of illegal smuggling networks, the Home Office says.
www.bbc.co.uk

I really hope this works, perhaps proceeds could be used to offset accommodation costs and reduce the burden on the UK taxpayer.

I bet the Chinese are quaking in their little boots, bless them.

Seems the Tories didn’t implements the child sexual abuse report because it recommended billions in compensation.

So that’s WASPI, Post Office, contaminated blood, now grooming gangs that they intentionally kicked the can on for years.

Really are a despicable bunch.

Just deleted Twitter and done my morning scroll on BlueSky instead. Still finding my people on it, but mental health is noticeably different not filling my head with racists, conspiracy theorists, and Americans shouting about taking over the world first thing I’ll tell you that.

I’ve always quite strongly believed in not shying away from things and not creating a segregated internet, but there comes a point where there’s just no benefit.
