I'm not a Labour supporter.

But tell me exactly what it is that makes Starmer, Rayner, Dodds, Reeves, Nandy, Burnham and Abbott so much worse and unelectable compared to Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Raab, Hancock, Patel, Dorries, Truss, Fletcher and Rosindell?

Pretty disappointing/depressing all round really although maybe a little unfair on Truss, Reeves and Nandy who don’t come across too bad. Burnhams good but not an MP so you’d have to chuck in a Ben Houchen who’s apparently doing a decent job on Teeside.

I’ve said for a while there’s better representatives for both main parties than what’s on their front benches which in recent years have been dictated more by party politics/leader whims than what would be best for the country…thats just wrong in my book

That's the weirdest argument.

"We can't vote for these people to be in government because they're not already in it. The other lot may have fucked up everything since they've been in, but they're already in power and that's what really matters!"

No it’s because a lot of people are not living in the Dickensian poverty you portray but are just living a life they are comfortable with

Labour offers nothing to these people

I doubt it'll be Johnson there by that time. Brexit also seems to be stuck in some kind of rut now, where some people will refuse to blame anything on it. And let's face it, if last election Dennis Skinner could be voted out because of Brexit, anything's fair game - if ever there was an MP who was more leave than the current PM, that was one. He'd have gladly voted for us to leave given the chance!

Best they can hope for next election, probably, is slashing the majority and having them and Lib Dems in position to claim seats to tip the balance the election after that - is a depressing thought, but it's too big a majority to turn around in one go, barring a catastrophe.

Yeah, it is a big majority to turn around. Think there’s some small majorities though and these are strange times ! Agree it will need Lib Dem’s to pick up some traditional Tory seats and probably some kind of coalition/agreement

It will also need a proper positive vision for the future

My personal opinion is that the labour party have more unelectable members than the tories. The rest of the country seem to agree with me.

Granted, they are both pretty shite.

But many people are living in poverty and the Tories don't give a fuck (nor do you).

Those people tend not to vote labour either and given I’ve probably paid well over half a million in income tax over the last two decades I’ve done by bit for those who won’t work

Even if Labour offers nothing, it's still more than the Tories, who seem intent to take as much away from them as possible to protect the assets of those that have a lot more. And I'm sure if they felt they could get away with taking more and removing welfare etc. they'd do it in a heartbeat because they'd believe it'd just promote those idle people to be more self-reliant or some other such bollocks. For some of them a return to Dickensian Britain when Britain led the world on the exploitation of the lower classes is a wet dream. At least then the pesky proles knew their place!

The fact that there can even be a discussion about this says a lot about the state of politics. Add in the fact you could say the same about any party and its no wonder we're in a mess.

Johnson getting a pasting in PMQs so far.

This one could go in here or the Covid thread.

Refuses to deny having a party last December while the rest of us were locked down...

As soon as I saw that post I just knew Grendel would comment on the tweeter and not the content of the story.

this is a far bigger story.

It really isn’t. Maugham and Gina Miller are as bitter as fuck about Brexit - it’s only a bigger story if the wider population give a fuck and when it’s from a narcissist like Maugham they will not and don’t

Deflector shields set to maximum Captain…

I don’t need to deflect as no one in planet real world cares Ian - out of interest has Sir Keir told Angela about the reshuffle yet?

In Tory land:

Killing a fox (not breaking any laws) because it was trying to kill your hens = crime of the century

Bunging a few million quid of taxpayers money to your mates = nothing to see here

Maughams opinion on brexit is irrelevant, he's exposed a minister with his hand in the till misappropriating taxpayers money, I thought youd be furious?

As for killing a fox, I wonder if he found it to be a sexual experience like our PM?

So this is a criminal matter - is a prosecution pending?

“Mr Johnson said he “loved” hunting with dogs, in part because of the “semi-sexual relation with the horse”

If Hancock being caught with his hands in the till (again) isn't enough to rile up Grendel, how about the story about the Downing Street Christmas party when everyone else was locked down?

If/when the evidence comes out that's going to really damage him (or it should).

I'm surprised at your flippant attitude to the misuse of public money.
And Blairs never appeared in the Hague but I think we both agree he's still a war criminal.

No I think The Hague nonsense was juvenile left wing sixth form drivel and always have

Of course he hasn’t - he’s a muppet. But that was not the point as you well know.
You are blasé on corruption because it suits you to be blasé about it…. Unless of course it’s the EU doing it and then you’re apoplectic.
