They’ll just revert to the usual Labour want uncontrolled immigration, trying to stop Brexit, North London elite and people will fall for it while thinking Sunak is a man of the people because he posed for some photos pretending to serve food in a pub once.

The only chance the Tories have in the labour north seats they’ve won is to appeal to those voters in terms of tough immigration stance and to hope Starmer in the next two years makes some comment that suggests rejoining the EU

It's often perception that wins out, mind.
What I can't see working is any attempt to portray Labour as the elite compared to... Sunak. I mean, I know Johnson was pretty elitest, but somehow he could carry it off to an extent. Sunak though, he says and does and wears the wrong things to try that line of attack, surely, along with not having the charisma to do it!
He'd be better off going for policy arguments and competence really. That was what Truss was trying to do, with a couple of obvious flaws(!) but Sunak would surely have more traction there wrt his own public perception.

The party of law and order lets back in ministers who break the ministerial code after a week because ‘she made a mistake and said sorry’. To make this particular mistake you have to override a warning that you are sending confidential information outside the government.
It was never a mistake-it was deliberate to precipitate the end of Truss.
And now the Johnson cult are briefing against Braverman and undermining Sunak.

The 'send them all back to Africa' line isn't going to put food on the table or heat people's homes which is what they are going to be really concerned about this winter. It was never enough for the National Front to be elected and it won't be enough for this Government. I feel Starmer is cautious enough not to fall into traps.
'Getting Brexit done' appealed to nationalists and xenophobes at the time but now many people have much more important things to worry about. The irony is of course that their desire for Brexit is part of the reason they are now struggling.

Immigration is nothing like the issue it was five-ten years ago. I think what will lose them the red wall votes is more likely to be losing the Johnsonian economics.
Cant be the Hang The Pedos and Fund The NHS Party if you don’t fund the NHS. These are people who voted Brexit for better jobs and more public spending. I think a lot of them see immigration as resolved now were out the EU.

Suella Braverman is under pressure to answer fresh questions about her resignation last week as home secretary for breaching the ministerial code, after new details emerged that cast doubt on her and Rishi Sunak’s version of events.
Sources have told the Guardian that Braverman was challenged by the cabinet secretary, Simon Case, about the leaking of a sensitive document, rather than coming forward herself about what had happened.
A government insider said: “She only owned up to it when she was confronted with the evidence.”
It follows an intervention by the former chairman of the Conservative party Jake Berry, who said the issue was “really serious” and added: “As I understand it, the evidence was put to her and she accepted the evidence, rather than the other way round.”
The account appears to contradict what Sunak said during his first prime minister’s questions on Wednesday.
When he was justifying the reappointment of Braverman as home secretary just six days after her departure, he insisted: “She raised the matter and she accepted her mistake.”

Think that’s a bit tenuous PVA. What’s more concerning for me is we once again have a PM who’s judgement is immediately questionable
How have the ERG (or whatever they’re called these days) right got such power over the party and it’s leadership ?! She should never have got the job back and it’s put Sunak on the back foot from day one. Bizarre choice although obviously part of some dodgy leadership dealings which just about sums up the party over the past 12 months. Let’s not worry about just getting the best, most capable people into the top jobs…god forbid

It’s not just the ERG. She’s also a member of another Tory group who are ironically called “The Common Sense” group. There’s little doubt that she secured Sunak the PM position but old leaky Sue has such sway within the furthest right of the party she’s almost unsackable. He’ll have to at some point but that is probably the point he’ll lose his party. The Tories aren’t even fractured in two because the Boris loyalists clearly aren’t behind Sunak and leaky Sue is public enemy No.2 now, the ERG is even split hence they had to agree to disagree and back no one in the leadership contest, there’s still a number of pro Europeans in the party too amongst I’m sure many other knitting circles. I recon Suella is the only glue holding it together,once she’s gone I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to see it implode. His number one concern was there being no member vote, so getting the likes of Braverman and Badenoch onboard by offering them ministerial roles was probably what was needed.

They do because of their support for Boris who in turn would still have won in a membership vote. Don't get their support and you'll end up putting it to people who would still give anything to sniff Johnson's farts

The fact is there’s deals that could’ve been done without causing immediate pressure on Sunak/government, for example offering to bring back Bravermann in a future reshuffle in a different role or if he had to give her an immediate cabinet role, shove her elsewhere for a bit

Of all their failings this is the worst but it won't get much attention. They just pretended to care when we hosted COP. Since then they have shown complete contempt for the environment.
