If you follow the journalist who’s investigating it he’s been brilliant at setting Nadeem up by asking what he already knew and Nadeem has lied and obfuscated throughout the process
I did find the "taxes are private" line very suspicious.Be interesting now what comes out about Sunaks taxes. Given the questions that have been repeatedly asked, and refused to answer, in the last few days you have to wonder if the press know he has done something similar.
Still trying to work out why an inquiry into an inquiry was required. HMRC already had an inquiry, he was guilty. What else did Sunak need to know to come to the inevitable conclusion he was always going to have to come too?He did the right thing by having the inquiry if zahawi was defending his position and got to the right conclusion. The fact zahawi should’ve just walked and was in the position of chancellor and then chair, is a different matter.
Hasn’t it only taken a couple of weeks from the newspaper article ? Obriens never happy, think he lives is a state of constant misery…unless he’s listening to his own voice

But it has been going on for months. He was red flagged when he first became a minister, the reasons why were reported last summer. It’s a stretch to suggest that this has suddenly crept up on Sunak. He’s got a bigger problem now anyway, he’s now got to explain why after sacking Zahawi for breaking the ministerial code he still has Braverman in a job.I guess it’s whether there were any mitigating factors/circumstances and to be seen to be following due process. Don’t get me wrong, if this had gone on for weeks or months then I’d be wondering WFT was happening, however, a week or two is hardly something to get wound up about, especially when the end conclusion was the correct one
Absolutely shameless. Guy is a snake.

As Chomsky once called it, 'manufactured consent'.He's not a journalist. But hes showed up the media in this country for the useless, compliant shower of shit they actually are.
Theyre onto us lads! Scarper!
The hard left, haha! What a prat.
He's just a normal man. Innocent man.The mentalists. I think 30p Lee would be great Conservative Party chairman…. for the Labour Party. Give Gullis a job too and Desmond Swayne. Put all the nuttiest of the nut jobs in the front window of the Tory party. The more ridiculous they look the more normal people will turn away from them.
It’s cause we are lazy workshy fuckwitsThis is on top of being the only G7 economy not to return to pre pandemic levels
UK only G7 economy to shrink this year, IMF warns
Britain will emerge as the “sick man” of the world’s richest countries this year, according to forecasts by the IMF.www.google.com
Why are we the only ones being this badly affected by Covid and the war in Ukraine?
It's almost as if that's bullshit and there are other factors at play.

its amazing how many people will parrot that line when you bring up the state the country isWhy are we the only ones being this badly affected by Covid and the war in Ukraine?
I wouldnt pay too much attention to forecasts. BoE are likely to announce this week that rather than an eight quarter (two year !!!) recession we will only contract but half as much as they expected and for half as long. Their previous forecast…three months ago !
I think we’re now back above pre pandemic levels
UK Economy Back to Pre-Covid Levels
Service sector main driver of growth in October, ONS says. Inflation and interest rates are due this weekwww.morningstar.co.uk
…however, economies contracted and then subsequently grew at different levels and different times around pandemic. We grew most last year amongst G7 but had contracted more during (maybe partially due to us being so service reliant) just as we and others were due to kick on, the war started.
Im not saying everything’s rosey, it’s not, but it’s also maybe not as bad as the headlines and forecasts would suggest and if energy prices/inflation can come down and stay down, hopefully it will be better than forecasts indicate. There’s also too many variables (main one being war) to accurately forecast at the moment
Didn’t have you down as a Morning Star reader Steve!
Haha, read all sorts me !
I just googled the pre pandemic comment as I’ve seen contrasting views over recent weeks/months. Either way we’re barely above it
It does look like the headwinds are easing. Still think we need a strong government to make some bold decisions post Brexit if we’re to get back on track and not sure Rishi is capable of that, seems to barely be holding his party together and rapidly losing voter confidence (his approvals have dropped quicker than most recently).
I do think SM access or that by another name would make a huge difference. And that’ll be a good couple of year negotiation post GE unless Starmer has been back channelling it in the mean time. Now the Truss Singapore on Sea stuff is dead in the water I’m not sure what other moves we could make to grow rapidly at the moment.
I think when reality plays out that will prove to be a blip. Whether you go by the IMF forecast or the expected BOE forecast the likelihood is that we’ll be below pre pandemic levels by the end of the quarter. Again.I wouldnt pay too much attention to forecasts. Agree we need some bold decisions and I’m not sure Sunak will be able to deliver them due to divisions within party.
A closer relationship with EU is a must (on both sides) but as I’ve said before rejoining SM is just not going to happen in short term as it requires freedom or movement. Whatever people’s views on it that’s still toxic within major parties and probably public. Even just a closer relationship is likely to be scuppered by ERG lot though and you can’t run government like that
Think Sunak/Hunt are probably as good as Tories have got to offer and have at least stabilised things, whether they’ve got a deliverable vision is a different matter though. Sunaks personal ratings were damaged by Zahawi

Starmer really needs to do some work on getting the message through that other countries have been impacted by covid and Ukraine and aren't in the mess we are
