People on Twitter were having a right go at Penny Mordaunt (as she seemed to be angling for the Defence job) as being hopelessly unqualified for the role. And then they do THIS???
At least knows what a military base looks like (and not just, while Transport Secretary, as a place to park lorries waiting to cross the Channel because your Brexit-busting freight provider doesn't actually have any ships).
Probably a ‘Chris Grayling for Cabinet’ splinter group.

Known about it since June. Imagine the reaction of the mail and their scummy ilk if kids were going to miss the start of term because of action by the teachers?
They’ve known about it since 2018 when a school roof collapsed. Although in reality they knew about it before then. RAAC only ever had a design life of 30 years so successive governments should have been addressing this issue for decades. God knows why we were still using it on construction of public buildings into the 90’s.

Because they couldn't use asbestos materials after 1984??

Exactly. I'm already predicting in 4 years time there will be an investigation about wasted funds.

Their excuse will be that they had to action the upgrades quickly, forgetting the fact they've known about this for 4 years.

And people will accept it.

Some of the very establishments on which our great nation is founded on are literally falling apart.

But some people on here won't vote Labour because...Starmer.

I fucking despair.
Looks like they waited as long as possible before there was a serious risk of collapse. These fuckers really need to call an election and just let someone else have a go, they stopped caring ages ago.

Labour will win by a huge majority - I wouldn’t worry about it

Some people won't vote for austerity in any form.

I'm not sure whether cast iron fiscal rules are compatible with addressing all of the crumbling services and infrastructure to be honest

I think it'll be closer than people think.

I hate the fact I have to vote for this version of Labour and Tory boy Starmer. I will though.

If they do win by a big margin I hope they know it's only because of the Tories failures.

Interesting article for those that didn’t see the news yesterday's that U.K. GDP had actually recovered pre pandemic levels by end of 2021. The swing/upward revision of about 1.7% (which is huge over a two year period)

Obviously unrelated to the shitshow in various other areas at the moment (school closures, record hospital waiting lists, strikes etc) and I still feel that both us and a lot of the west are in for tough times in the short term but always nice to see some slightly more positive news.

Gives you hope that a competent government might be able to turn things around. Maybe remove a fig leaf for Starmer to hide behind on policy as well.

The way our system works that's doubtful - but you know that!

I think it will be a huge majority

Johnson’s majority was false really and mainly over the brexit argument - they’d even have won seats in Coventry if it wasn’t for the brexit vote split

Most of those seats will go back anyway

You’ve then got a party in government for a decade which never goes well and a backdrop of inflation and cost of living which brings governments down

Labour will benefit from the exposure of tbe SNP as a corrupt and incapable political party

It’s going to be a very dull election when Starmer - like Cameron - will essentially win by default

Problem is that election was needed last year, never mind in another 15 months. The government now is just engaged in neglect of the country.

That bit I do agree with - main opportunity for Labour that although, ironically, to keep those seats going forward they need a few more lefty policies. Their decline in Scotland can probably date back to Blair really.

SNP implosion is also an opportunity for Lib Dems to start re-establishing themselves a bit too, as Scotland's traditionally Liberal more than any other area. They could certainly do with a wider pool from which to pick their leader!

Which is an entirely irrelevant point - governments always cling onto power - look at the Callaghan government of the 70’s

Also look at the behaviour of the Corbyn opposition when they refused to being Johnson’s minority government down as they knew they’d lose an election

Agreed. I can’t see it being anything other than big unless there’s a dramatic economic turnaround between now and the election….or a monumental fuck up/implosion by Labour

‘They always do it’ doesn’t mean they should. Gordon Brown could have carried on for another 2 years, mind you.
