Got a feeling that’s going to backfire. The union’s have a pretty strong mandate before calling a strike and when members are voting in very sizeable majorities to strike of the back of that mandate it seems almost inevitable that token offers are going to be rejected in any ballot. Could actually strengthen the Unions position when repeated token offers repeatedly get rejected in a ballot. Don’t know for sure obviously but I can’t help but think that ultimately this will end up being embarrassing for the government. There’s a growing militant attitude towards the government in the working and indeed middle classes.

That's true. As an aside, the minimum vote requirement allows for a manipulation of democracy, as if you're against a strike it's probably worth your while not to vote, than to vote against.

The turnout requirement is much higher than you usually get for local elections which don’t have to be done by post. But what do you expect after 40 odd years of anti union laws being passed?

You know that book they all wrote “Britannia unchained”, was there a typo on the proof copy that they all missed and the title should have been Britannia Enchained? Even Tory back benches are saying that this budget is a disaster. The authors of that book are clueless, did people really take them seriously?
