So Coutts had no problem being associated with a Brexit campaigner. They did with a Putin apologists though. Well that and the fact that lord haw haw no longer had the finances to qualify for the bank account he thinks he’s entitled too.

Pretty disturbing if he actually has been denied access due to political views - he claims he’s been denied in 10 other banks. I’m always dubious regarding his claims but if true it’s not a good look

Loads of ministers, including the PM, coming out to bat for Farage. All in the name of culture war. Barmy.

Seems to me from the documents that have been posted that Farage no longer met Coutts’ financial criteria and his poor reputation only persuaded them further to cut ties. Their handling of the story since it became public has been awful though.

It's not his political views itself that are the problem. It's the fact he has links to dodgy people, dodgy organisations and dodgy money.

The bank is obviously going to assess that risk and carry out due diligence. If he's considered too high risk, they are perfectly entitled to close his account.

And even if it was about his views, which is what he claims, he was quite happy for businesses to be able to choose who they do business with based on their views a few years ago. Karma's a bitch eh Nige.

I'm not really understanding why Farage should be treated differently to others or why there's an outrage that his account may have been closed for moral reasons when banks do this to other people on a daily basis without any fuss in the media

There's no right to anything other than a basic bank account, and that's only a relatively recent requirement as there were so many people unable to find a bank that would let them maintain an account

Inwhich case we need to rip up the way our society is structured and start all over again, or start killing people when they hit 75, 1 of the 2.
Well I was going for option 1.

At some point we will be forced to or we'll see something catastrophic. But as always we'll have to actually be right on the precipice before we even think of acting.

It's called climate change and its a work in progress.....
Amongst numerous other things.

Increasing resistance to antibiotics. An increasing population creating ever more demand for land and resources as both get smaller, leading to ever higher tensions and disputes in an era with frighteningly powerful weapons. Not to mention potential threats like AI.

You can see why people wonder if we've not discovered intelligent life because it's destined to destroy itself first.

They know what they're doing. They just know their readership probably doesn't understand.
I caught a headline in the Express yesterday that said Brexit win for fishermen, at last I thought so I read the article. It was very vague on what the win was but did mention the introduction of Remote Electronic Monitoring. So I googled Remote Electronic Monitoring Fishing to get a clearer idea of what that is and top of the page was an article about how the EU started introducing it in in 2021. So I guess the “win” is being 2 years behind the curve because of Brexit. But as you say they know what they’re doing, they understand their readership.

Reckon we’re gonna go all in on the AI coin flip. Either Star Trek or Terminator. Let’s see, either way it won’t be boring.

This, to borrow Grendel's term, ghoul. He's back and he's what Starmer's Labour is going to be all about.

Tony Blair, a very rich man these days, strangely enough, turns out to be a Tory.

In the meantime... Starmer et al, of the LINO party (Labour In Name Only), happily take donations from the private healthcare trough...

ULEZ is a problem for Labour in London as it adds a drag on to the swing towards them but luckily the aren't looking at needing to gain seats in London

The tories are dead everywhere else, Selby was an absolute disaster for them.

Disaster for Labour more like.

They were expected to win all three seats but only won one. Pathetic!
they were not expected to win all 3 seats, stop talking shit as the Lib Dems were expected to win all the Somerton and Frome seat

Let's keep things truthful hey, I know you are a weird far right space cadet but let's keep things truthful hey

Twitter is full of this "Labour was expected to win all 3 seats" which is simply nonsense but it's all weirdos like the dutchman who are saying it

Lib Dem’s were always the favourite to win Frome. Apparently Sarah Dyke has been treated like a local MP for months so sure was the community that she would be the next MP. She had a full caseload before the election and is hitting the ground running. Not sure where people are getting Labour were expected to win it from. Desperate defence from the right.

The seat of the disgraced former Prime Minister heavily targeted by Labour and they still don't win it, come on David it isn't a disaster but it's hardly a sign of a thumping majority either.

That will undoubtedly be a disappointment for them. But the Selby result was massive even by by-election standards. Overturning a 20K majority is not something you see very often.

Blaming ULEZ is lazy, considering as well that Starmer came out and supported the scheme a few weeks ago, he’s tried to straddle the fence on it.

900 people voted Green, most of those would have probably have voted Labour not so long ago, until they were told their vote wasn’t wanted.
