What compromises have the Tories had to make to get elected or while in government?

You realise the Tory equivalent to you is currently spitting feathers at how socialist and left wing the government is and how they need to get back to their right wing roots, don’t you?

They literally ran on spending on public services and green policies LMAO

I mean, other than raising taxes and public spending to the extent that the very soul of the party is now up for sale?

Show me again where the Tory party have admitted to raising taxes?

We know they have, but have they actually said that's the way forward for their party? Have they abandoned their fiscal rules? Have they admitted privatisation of utilities is a failure?

Maybe the reason the Tories are moving even further towards the far right, is because Labour have shifted to the centre right. Is that a good thing in your opinion?

Amazing lack of self awareness as per.

You're the last person who can use this as a stick to beat someone with.

Er I’m not a Labour Party politician whose a multi millionaire and in reality a titled Lady. Still she has a red rosette so she’s a goodie

What “core beliefs” do you think have been abandoned here?

Let's start with some of the pledges that Starmer signed up to when elected leader shall we?

They were broadly centre-left, is the party still committed to those, I must've missed it...

Which ones do you think he’s broken? Considering almost all are promises for when elected.

Stop reading the Telegraph man

I think there's a list of Starmer's commitments when he ran for leader posted earlier. I'll bet good money that also earlier in this thread you've said it was ok that he's ditched them.

Electoral hygiene, you said. It's ok to drop everything he promised to champion earlier as long as he wins. But now you're telling us he's committed to them? Which is it?

Ooh look, here's a handy list, if you're struggling to remember them all. Since we're chucking out fun insults, stop drinking the Starmer kool-aid, man. 😁

Ah, the laughing emoji. The one that says I can't answer the question so I'll just poke fun at it and hope no one notices.

It’s a lovely Gish gallop and I’m not going to spend time writing up 27 replies as you probably expected when posting it, but that article is laughable.

So according to you backing Sam Tarry is a Labour Core Belief ™️

Like all these complaints it’s a mixture of: fortune telling what’s actually going to happen, tenuous links between a policy and an action (the Tarry stuff for example), and actual changes.

Just pick the one that really matters to you. I’ll go first: gutted we arent promising proper green spend. It’s my number 1 issue. But your answer is what exactly? Keep the Tories who don’t even believe in climate change?

Anything I raise in response you’ll go “well I don’t believe that will happen” and anything I say don’t happen you’ll say you believe it will. It’s pointless. So we are left with just the conspiracy theory that Labour MPs are secretly right wing cos you say so.

The one that says “Not this fucking shit again I’ve already spent far too much time and energy on what is clearly a disingenuous point that the person doesn’t want a discussion on the facts of and just wants to go “sTaRmErS a ToRy!2!1”

For balance if you want to look at what Labour leaders have promised when they first got into power Corbyn at his first conference as leader put in print 10 pledges. Number 9 was “Action to Secure an Equal Society”. In which he said “We will take action to tackle violence against women and girls, racism and discrimination on the basis of faith”. And then he turned a blind eye to the point denial to antisemitism in his party rather than deal with it.

I suspect that if you looked at any leader of any political party, what they promised to get the job or at a GE to get into government and then look at what they actually delivered there isn’t going to be many ticks in boxes. If that’s your hill to die on where Starmer is concerned you’re probably just as well ignoring politics full stop, don’t vote, don’t read the news etc. because what Starmer has done is standard in politics.

The leader of the Labour Party refused to openly support a single worker on strike over the last few years. Why? This is the party that was founded as the political arm of the union movement.

Think you’ve spent too much time on here my friend

I mean that’s not up for debate, but seriously man, can you see why parties going for election, especially ones where the number one voter concern about them is “they’ll spend all the money and raise my taxes” aren’t shouting about spending loads of money and raising taxes right now?

Could they get away with a bit of it? Probably, but strategically, in the part of the cycle where you’re looking at undecideds and soft Tories, why would you? When you can get free publicity from Owen Jones tantrums and lots of crusties publicly losing their shit at you. A better party political broadcast to middle England you couldn’t hope for.

The comment about taxes and spending didn’t start with me. My question was about the actual compromises the Tories have had to make in government or while electioneering. Seems to me they had to make some social policy ones while with the Lib Dems but since it’s only been them in charge they’ve gone more rogue with each reincarnation.

Cut spending all over the place, pledge to send refugees to Rwanda, Liz Truss’ any % crash the £ speed run, Boris proroguing Parliament etc etc. They’ve compromised on jack shit. But if a shadow minister dares to appear on a picket line he’s out because it looks a bit too Bolshy.

It’s about the only thing he did deliver. So basically everything about his tenure was abject failure, he only kept one promise and that was abject failure. Presumably you voted leave to deliver Boris because let’s face it, that was the only guarantee of voting leave. Well that and ensuring Corbyn was locked out of No.10. Well done.
