Yeah. The party is both anti-immigration and pro- big business/rich. But those to are incompatable. For business to make huge profits low-wage immigration is absolutely vital.

IF he got into power he would definitely put big business ahead of immigration. Trouble is he'd still find ways to blame others for the immigration situation not being sorted out and there'd be plenty in his personality cult willing to swallow it for quite a long time.
Like Boris
Always someone’s else’s fault and he takes none of the blame but all the credit

The populist right has no intention of lowering immigration. We know this cos we just had them for five years an immigration skyrocketed. Trump stopped Rs voting for immigration measures so he could use it. Anyone who votes Reform or Trump expecting lower immigration is a rube.

There's a headline in today's telegraph that is similar to my dream but I don't know if it's to be the that takes responsibility for producing them and building them or private enterprise, photo of tin town style House's accompanied the article,if it's at least suggesting a solution!

It would be magical to see Big Nige as PM (for about a week anyway) just so I can enjoy the glorious meltdown on page 2146 of this thread. I have a feeling the country might tire of their decision even quicker than this time though :)

What would he even do? Last time he was leader of a party he wanted taxi drivers to wear a uniform didn’t he? His whole thing is whatever grift will earn him some money.

More bold decisions against a pointless media storm whipped up by middle class women. Why on earth taxpayers should compensate women for not checking their mail for 15 years I’m not sure.

Starmer derangement syndrome sure gets you angry at some weird stuff.

The only reason they should is it’s their money and an injustice a Labour government pledged to put right.

Forget the campaign, it's about what the Ombudsman has said:

What do you think the compensation should be for a 28 month delay in communications over a very well publicised and communicated benefit change they had 15 years to prepare for?

It’s an absolutely ludicrous claim.

I think Reeves is awful but she can't be blamed particularly for both quarters. Until she realises that restoring household spending power is the aim, not vague GDP growth she'll get nowhere .
I totally disagree regarding Chancellor Reeves. She is top class and her budget was aimed at creating a solid foundation for the country after the terrible previous administration.
I thought her Budget speech was excellent. Maybe too many digs at previous government even if they were reckless.

You mention the "terrible previous administration" yet what she's doing is almost exactly the same just with sparkly new names (which are about the only remotely imaginative thinking that has gone into it). And unsurprisingly we're getting the same results - stagnant growth that is in fear of becoming a contraction if we cut too hard and thus reduce spending in the economy while at the same time increasing govt expenditure required to cover the welfare etc that that entails.

It won't create a solid foundation and is more likely to exacerbate the situation rather than solve it. Her economic ethos is basically a Tory one.

Rachel Reeves is a...brilliant woman with lots of well thought out, practical ideas. She's ensuring the financial security of this country for years to come. Oh, yes, and her adherence to the Ministerial Code is above reproach.

That’s just not true. For a start she’s actually budgeting for the things they’re promising. And not putting off decisions like prisons and WASPI and a million other things. And as always the left have bought the rights media campaign hook line and sinker.

While clowns like you in the centre are hugely invested in Maggie Thatcher's rhetoric.

Building more prisons is the magic economic plan 👌🏻

But budgeting in the same way the Tories did - projecting growth to cover at least part of the shortfall when that almost always ends up being optimistic, especially using the kind of methods she is. Which means those budgets end up being worthless and 'budgeted for' stuff ends up getting dropped further down the line because growth projections never materialise.

She's a product of the economic thinking she was taught but unfortunately it's been shown time and time again that it doesn't work. Yet it continues to be trotted out expecting a different result.

I don't necessarily dislike her, I just think she's wedded to her economic doctrine and can't see beyond it, which will ultimately lead to the country showing little or no improvement over the parliament and Labour losing the next GE.

Reeves might think she's a smart budget holder but most of her decisions are insane politically. Who'd have thought the right wing press wouldn't continue the soft soap treatment forever.

Lol what soft soap treatment? It doesnt help that the left have been spitting their dummy either. Rather a fascist than a centrist I guess.

The hysteria is ludicrous. People need to get a grip. All Labour have done so far is take decisions any government will have had to. The complete lack of understanding those whining have shown is astounding quite frankly.

The only person who has no understanding is you.

The Waspi subject is nothing to do with a debate over the claim validity. It’s to do with the fact senior figures earlier this year vocally supported and backed the campaign. It’s Starmers Nick Clegg moment. They backed an issue in opposition and then adopted the Tory view on the subject when entering office.

Under the Tories we were complaining that they’d fucked public services and that the poor and disabled were fucked.

Now it’s complaints that middle class Janet had to sell the arga to fund her daughter’s reiki course or that Andrew Lloyd Webber might have to sell a field to pay his tax bill.

The the thickies like ESB have all been activated by Elmo and are parroting any old nonsense they’re told and the lefties are still upset they backed a joke candidate five years ago and haven’t got over it.

Fast starting to think the country gets what it deserves. Just wish my kids didn’t live here.

So that's what the Tories did for the past 14 years then.

Sure, they had to take decisions. But those decisions are choices - they could continue with the dogma of the past 14 years of failure or they could try something different that involved investing in people and society rather than taking things from them. That is why people on the left are angry - it's a supposedly left wing govt getting crucified for centre-right policies which will result in the right wing getting back in again in a few years.

If we'd tried some proper left wing policies and they'd failed and the right got back in I could stomach that. But for them to fail just largely copying what the right wing have done and it being blamed on them being left wing will be a massive piss-take.

It remains to be seen what improvements in public services are coming, the budget committed real terms increases against last year but no further than that. Given what's happened over the past 14 years, and the ageing of the population over that period, it needs to go much further.

The complaint is that Labour is replicating Tory policy in relation to Waspi, despite what it said in opposition and in ignorance of the ombudsman.

I don't care about the inheritance tax changes and agree with them.

I don't care about Jeremy Corbyn, the only person who continues to talk about him is you.

The bottom line is, the budget has promised no material improvements in income for most of the population which leaves Labour incredibly vulnerable at the next election.

My cousin has just had an email saying the CCC is cutting services for adults with learning disabilities next year. Is the Labour council going to blame the Labour government for cutting services for the most vulnerable?

Have to laugh when the person responsible for tackling corruption gets named in an investigation into embezzlement
A Labour minister has been named in an investigation into claims her family embezzled up to £3.9bn (Tk 590 billion) from infrastructure projects in Bangladesh.

Tulip Siddiq, who as the Treasury's Economic Secretary is responsible for tackling corruption in UK financial markets, is alleged to have brokered a deal with Russia in 2013 that overinflated the price of a new nuclear power plant in Bangladesh.

What do you think councillors are doing exactly? Cackling with glee that people with learning disabilities are losing funding.

No. The Tories avoided most of these issues. That’s why they’re still there.
