Look at it this way, Simms is basically free in the eyes of those people shouting to take the first offer from Sporting for Vik at a rumoured 17 million euros. If the latest (24 million euros) is true, then that's about 7 million more (admittedly in euros), which would just about cover this transfer free.

Colour me shocked. Douglas is more business astute than the experts on SBT!

Astonishing, if true and a major statement of intent from the club. I am assuming the fee is lower than the £7-10 million quoted and as ever, Cov will be paying over years, not in one fell swoop.
Even so, I sympathise with anyone who thinks this is risky. The club has been burned badly in the past by spending money we couldn’t afford.
Part of the statement is not just adding a player like this but the message it sends to other clubs and more importantly, other players.
It also indicates that the Gyokeres sale to Lisbon isn’t far away

He’s heard rumours that Calvert-Lewin is being lined up to replace Kane at Spurs and that Everton were interested in Vik as his replacement …….
