I didn't suggest it was but ok!That’s fine. Personally I don’t think his position is undermined by a failure to pick Newcastle’s LB and Oliver Skipp
Stones is injured. Not exactly an inspiring squad but as people above have mentioned there isnt all that many options to choose from at CM and CB.
Really hope Colwill gets game time at Chelsea and Stones wins back his place at Man City or we could be screwed come the summer
Ah I did wonderStones is injured.
I only know coz I put the fucker in my Dream Team!!!Ah I did wonder
Imagine picking Phillips and Henderson and not ward prowse

Man utd are a weird club making weird signings , spurs yea I agreeI’ll give you that one.
Edit: whilst we’re on the subject of JWP, I massively rate him and am surprised he only ended up at West Ham. Genuinely think he’d fit well in a Man Utd/Spurs team.
Rio is correct , he played 4 times for england in 2009 (from 5 matches ) and 4 in 2010 ( from 12 matches ), let's not make out he was a permanent fixture... JWP is now at West ham btw , 4th in the leagueThe captain of the Premier League's worst team last season should retire from international football if he doesn't get picked for every England squad?
"I've never known a manager to pick players that are consistently not playing" - does that include 2009/10 when Ferdinand was a fixture in the England squad despite playing just 13 Premier League games that season?
The idea that Ward-Prowse can come in and play the holding midfield role that Henderson and Phillips are being selected to play seems fanciful at best.Again, I get the JWP argument and would have preferred him to Henderson particularly. But there’s no denying that Phillips and Maguire have been very reliable performers for England and Henderson I’m assuming brings something from a leadership perspective to the squad with him being vice-captain. It’s hardly a resigning matter that Ben Mee or Max Kilman isn’t making the squad.
Ah yes, the same West Ham that wanted to pay £30 million for Maguire - if that had gone through, would he have suddenly become a must-pick in your eyes?Rio is correct , he played 4 times for england in 2009 (from 5 matches ) and 4 in 2010 ( from 12 matches ), let's not make out he was a permanent fixture... Southgate is shite

All three players are clearly good enough to play regularly for top/most Premier League sides. They’ve all played well for England in the past, and all play positions where there is a general dearth of English talent at the high levels. Neither of them are going to be foundational players for England in the Euros but the arguments for cutting them out entirely just aren’t as simple as you’re making out. To write all three of them off may work for the purposes of Twitter memes and FPL lineups but the alternatives aren’t that obvious when building Southgate’s actual tactics. Which of course, have been very successful.Let's stop talking bollocks as per and answer the question
Phillips has played 604 premier league minutes in over a year , should he be picked for England?
Harry maguire 782 premier league minutes for man utd in over a year , should he be picked for England?
Jordan Henderson now plays in a rubbish league , should he be picked for England?
The answer is no

"We have lost a lot of experienced players with caps at centre-half," said Southgate.
"We are giving some less experienced players the opportunity to come into the squad but unfortunately it looks like Tyrone is out for the season, Stones is out for this camp, Eric Dier hasn't been in the Tottenham squad.
"There is a space there and I think for these two games it is important we have some experience in that place of the pitch.
"It's not a good situation that those guys aren't playing football, but in some areas we have depth. In others we don't."

It's nothing to do with twitter memes , even pros and pundits are annoyed with his selections .. He doesn’t pick Grealish because there’s a wealth of talented players in the same position who are ahead of him. If you drop Maguire, who are the five CBs you’re picking instead? It's nothing to do with twitter memes , even pros and pundits are annoyed with his selections .. SBT on skybluestalk must be right
None of them play football at a high standard consistently anymore and they shouldn't be picked until they do
He wouldn't pick grealish for the very reason
You put Ben white in the squad who is dynamic and can play centre half or full back and plays regular for a better team than man utdHe doesn’t pick Grealish because there’s a wealth of talented players in the same position who are ahead of him. So dynamic that he drops out of the squad whenever you pick him! (But I agree, he is definitely in the conversation)You put Ben white in the squad who is dynamic and can play centre half or full back and plays regular for a better team than man utd
Maybe he drops out for the very reason we argue here , he knows Southgate will play maguire no matter whatSo dynamic that he drops out of the squad whenever you pick him! (But I agree, he is definitely in the conversation)
Personally I would find it odd for Southgate to drop a player who’s never let him down for a player who literally walked out on the team during a World Cup campaign.Maybe he drops out for the very reason we argue here , he knows Southgate will play maguire no matter what

Maguire doesn't have to play even if white players mateCome on, you know enough to know that LCB and RCB are different positions.

If it was the Euros/WC starting XI then I'd of course agree with you, but as it's a 26 man squad for a qualifying match (which we could lose and still qualify) and a friendly and as we're short of CD/DMs atm, I'm not going to get het up about their inclusion!Let's stop talking bollocks as per and answer the question

Surely that is more of a reason to mix things up instead of calling up the equivalent of expired cheese to the squad? If it was the Euros/WC starting XI then I'd of course agree with you, but as it's a 26 man squad for a qualifying match (which we could lose and still qualify) and a friendly and as we're short of CD/DMs atm, I'm not going to get het up about their inclusion!
