You can have a good gameplan and stifle more talented opposition without looking like Brazil you know- they were better than us tonight and that’s the bottom line- we can blame who we want but it’s happened enough times to suggest it’s not all about England “not being arsed”.
And yet , we looked no better..
Sadly

Well that was shite - Kane should have been off at 60 - Mount put three corners in that didn’t get past the first man - Bellingham should have come on for him - we could have been out of sight - good save from Pickford
Wales will do better, that much I'm confident of. Giving more of a shit and their talisman isn't walking through treacle
Problem isn't kane mate , he's just won the PL golden boot .
Southgate is not getting the best from these forwards at all
The frustration for me is that he said he would pick and play those who have been performing, he's going against his word and as we have seen again today, has favourites.
I'm not a massive Lingard fan, but he has had an incredible season. He deserved to go. Even look at our bench today. How on earth some of those didn't get a go is really baffling.
I hope to be proved wrong but I think it'll cost us. I can see a scenario where he drops a few players who have been poor against the Czech's only to reinstate them again in the round of 16. Make it look like he is being proactive when in actual fact it is the same predictable shit every time.
Kane doesn't look fit or focused is my point, there is of course no doubting his quality when firing on all cylinders.
Although theres a bit of a conundrum here, Sterling shouldn't have started Sunday, but he was, and scored, so shouldn't he have been selected tonight?
I'd be with you if the other forwards didn't also look lost and devoid of any ideas
what standard did Kane look like tonight? Or Sterling? Or pretty much any of them?
this is precisely the kind of arrogance that makes people dislike us.
Tonight was a terrible lacklustre performance, and a very disappointing result, but in a lot of ways it’s also a game in isolation. We won’t play a Scotland again.
That isn’t an excuse for an overly cautious display, but some balance on the we’re crap and might get knocked out argument.
Kane has been absolutely non-existent, but our only alternative is DCL who looks poor to me.
Sterling wasn’t great today ans I was disappointed when he started last game, but he was great against Croatia and while poor tonight at least he didn’t hide and was involved.
He won’t do it, but Grealish and Sancho for Sterling and Phillips next game. Sit Mount deeper. Or have Foden, Mount, Grealish behind Kane.

for the older amongst us: i clearly rememberer Italia ‘90- England 1 Ireland 1. The papers were calling for the team to be sent home after one game there was so much disgust at drawing against such lesser opposition, and people wanted Robson’s head straight after the match.
im not saying for one minute Southgate is a Robson and we’re gonna get to the semis, but these types of games against “local lesser opposition” are always the same. That didn’t even look like an international match, the quality was just dire.
That's exactly the point he is making.
You say its arrogance but Scotland would be having the same conversations if they had played poorly and were lucky to get a drew against a team like Uganda.

4th England
44th Scotland
84th Uganda

The problem is though we also lose against the better sides too , so what's to look forward too?

I mean , Andy Robertson walks into our team so it's a bit disingenuous to call them plumbers and P.E teachers .

Except Scotland v Uganda isn't a local derby you clown. That's exactly the point he is making.

Fair enough. Harsh on them. My apologies. Just feels like a punch in the gut at the moment. Similar to the game in St Etienne in a way. So much of the ball but we lacked the killer instinct when it was blatantly obvious what we needed to do to to change that. Says a lot really that that night was worse in many ways than the Iceland game a week later.
A year ago Robertson does. Chilwell is now better than him and I have no idea why he’s not playing. We also need to find a way to get Grealish and Bellingham in the starting line up on Tuesday. Who’s dropped though for that to happen?

Robson did not have home advantage in every match and it's generally accepted that the only game we showed up for in 1990 was the one we lost.
Chilwell isn’t better than Robertson

And Grealish is a great player for Villa but in his 30 minutes today or whatever it was offered little apart from winning free kicks in his own half. Would have been great for Scotland, not so for England

The moment he gets on the ball the opposition look scared and they know they’re either going to draw a foul or he creates a chance. It’s also noticeable how they have to change how they play and mark. And Grealish is a great player for Villa but in his 30 minutes today or whatever it was offered little apart from winning free kicks in his own half. NoHe's saying uganda would celebrate a draw against Scotland the same way Scotland would celebrate a draw against England.
Do you think Uganda would celebrate a draw against Scotland when you consider they recently lost to Malawi and drew with burkina faso ?
