So, suppose, say, 5,000 turn up on Saturday.

That would be only 15% of the gate against Crewe. In other words, the vast majority of fans would have chosen not to join the protest.

But... is that how it would be portrayed? Of course not. In actual fact, 5,000 would give the opportunity for lots of positive publicity, and a statement of a large mass of people.

Nobody, but nobody, would care to mention those who weren't there.... despite the fact *they* would be the majority.

And this is what a 'doing' protest achieves. You never get 100% agreement on everything but you don't need it; to strive for 100% is futile, impractical and naive. There's a balance to be found, a tipping point where sufficient numbers are enough to achieve the desired message... if it's the right type of effort.

The majority of non attenders are irrelevant in the scenario above, despite their vast numbers, and the fact it's a minority taking part. And because of that, as long as sufficient turn up, there is no need to berate those who do not.

See the point? See why active is better than passive? See how active allows a demonstration of unity and volume, beyong the mere numbers?

What is really relevant is that about 1500 City fans were turning up at Northampton last season. Some others were arsed enough to complain, post on forums, march here and there. But the fact is that, now the club has left Coventry, most of the fan-base has simply moved on. They have given up on it, maybe because of all the bickering.

That is the real tragedy of this farce. After years of under-achieving and mismanagement, thousands just don't care any more. I have no idea what it would take to get back to 15000 crowds now. On that basis I fear the latest protest will not be anywhere as well supported as last year's.

Real football, real fans.

As long as the fixtures get fulfilled, of course.

No. The relevance is that the opposition to playing out of Cov isn't really demonstrated by physical evidence.

You could count empty seats but it doesn't show the common ground between those who won't go Sixfields.

Fair points, NW.

Obviously going to a march and going to watch the team in Northampton are two completely different things. If Saturday was City playing say a friendly at the Ricoh then I dare say there could well be 15,000 there.

I wonder if Nuneaton thought about hiring the Ricoh for the upcoming friendly? That would have been a Wee Stoater.

This is all very rich coming from The Mentalman*!!! LOL!

(*I've renamed The Gentleman in a derogatory way, but I'd just like to apologise as I don't really think he's mental - or necessarily a man, he might be a woman; can never tell over the internet (we've all been there! LOL!) - I just wanted to get involved in the banter!!!)
